Enter a peaceful sanctuary in a quiet mountain setting. Wind down a beautiful paved road, through tall pines and majestic oaks to a beautiful and peaceful compound at the end of the road only 5 min. off I - 80. No highway or train noise.

Tahoe style interior with plenty of warmth and comfort for your whole family or just you and your sweetheart. Relax in one of the hammocks or in the SPA or on the large deck after a hike on one of the trails near the house or a day of skiing at one of the nearby ski resorts. Play ping pong, put together jigsaw puzzles, play board games or cards, enjoy the large library, watch an old movie, shoot some hoops, toss the football, play badminton, horseshoes, tether ball or just relax in this beautiful comfortable setting.

Hike to sunrise cliff, the American River, an old miner's cabin, a very cool tunnel, ponds, a waterfall (seasonal) or just relax in one of the hammocks in the solitude of the forest.

SPA under the stars for your relaxation and enjoyment. There is also a large jacuzzi bath tub in the bathroom for soaking and a new outdoor shower to enjoy after a fun day of hiking or skiing.

Fire pit in designated area. Be fire safe. Keep the cover on it. Do not use when it is windy.

Relaxing Anniversary Weekend

Wonderful place. Beautiful private setting. Hiking right out the door. Very clean. Well thought out for comfort of guests. Plenty to do with horseshoes, tetherball, firepit, books, games, ping-pong and more. Highly recommend for a family getaway.

Great for the kids

There is lots of indoor and outdoor fun for kids. The house is very private and well stocked. Only a 15 minute drive to Rollins lake. And Diane was a great host!

Best owner yet

I came with my 2 teen nephews, my 2 teen children and my dog for a getaway together. I rent houses like this at least once a year for several years now. This is hands down the best experience I’ve had with the owner of a property (and they’ve all been positive). She is above and beyond great to communicate with and deal with. The house has everything you could possibly need/want. It’s extremely clean, has SO many games and things to do, kitchen is fully stocked, etc. It’s really even better than the pictures can show. We are dog people, and Piper, the owner’s dog and our dog were friends immediately and we loved having her visit with us too. There is no area for improvement here. Best experience across the board. Beds are SO comfortable too!!! We will be coming back.

Perfect mountain getaway

We loved staying at this property. It was super clean, beautifully isolated yet close to I-80, and had everything we needed. We would definitely return. Diane and her dog Piper are wonderful.

Great getaway

This mountain house is a great getaway for anyone who wants to enjoy the pines and/or escape from the hustle and bustle of normal daily life. Very gracious and helpful host. Comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen and bathrooms, lots of books, puzzles, and outdoor sports equipment, plus an outdoor spa and an indoor jacuzzi bathtub. Good hiking trails. About a 40 min drive to gold rush towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley and also to Donner Pass area. House located about 5-7 min drive off Hwy 80 in a secluded area with absolutely no traffic noise. A plus--if you like dogs--is friendly Piper who is always eager to be petted.

Good mountain getaway

Check-in: The property was easy to get to, clean, organized, and ready for our arrival with clear check-in instructions. Diane, the owner, lives on site (house next door) and was easy to reach/talk to. She even came over to give us a quick tour of the place and go over the house rules. Her dog was playful and friendly. House:The house had tall ceilings, adequate lighting, very nice wood stove fireplace (our fav feature), spacious downstairs master bedroom, and a small adjacent bedroom. Not a deal breaker for us by any means but the "master" bath was not ensuite but quite nice tho. The second bath was a half bath. We did not use it but there was a loft area with rather low and tapered ceiling with 2 queen beds set up with nightstand, and 1 queen mattress - good for a slumber party but not for elderly or tall folks. There were additional rollout beds too. This house can sleep a lot of people as long as they can manage with 1.5 bathroom. Stay: We (2 adults, one toddler and one dog), rented it for 3 nights in early March and had a good time relaxing at the house as well as exploring the area. There was a lot of outdoor space to explore with our toddler and throw frisbee for our dog. The outdoor fireplace next to the spa was just perfect to keep us warm. Location: It snowed lightly at that elevation and covered the area in snow dust - a beautiful scene to wake up to especially for a toddler's first snow. As for the area, there are hiking trails with different difficulty levels around the property. Snoparks are only 30-40min drive, Grass Valley only 30min, Truckee just about an hour or less. Check-out: There were hardly any checkout chores as compared to some some other rentals. The instructions were clear in the house rules binder. Overall, the most generously stocked house (number of beds, supplies, amenities, entertainment activities) we have rented so far (since 2013).

Gold Run House

Cozy and Relaxing!

Piper the dog was the best! Just such a lovely time here. The kitchen was well stocked and the bathtub was insanely huge and wonderful. Hot tub, cozy furniture...a great getaway and we will be back!

Relaxing Stay during our wildfire evacuation.

We were lucky enough that someone cancelled for Labor Day weekend and were able to snag this perfect getaway during a very stressful time, the Caldor Fire. We were evacuated from South Lake Tahoe, Diane called me early in the morning to confirm our booking and let us check in immediately; even giving us the first day gratis. We relaxed while we waited to see if our town was burning down. It didnt! Amazing work by the firefighters and support saving every home in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Thanks again to Diane for welcoming us to her property. Oh, and dont forget the spunky friendly PiperDog! Who greeted us like we were family. Cheers!

Gold Run 2021

This property was amazing! Diane is the best host ever. Every time I've done a VRBO and it was listed as a full kitchen I would be disappointed. This property had everything!! Not a thing missing! Outdoor shower was amazing and the game room had everything you could want to keep everyone entertained. Piper dog was also a great host all on her own. We will definitely be going back!!

Perfect in every way

We were so overdue for a vacation, and Diane’s place was just the perfect place to unwind for a few days and enjoy a Californian summer vacation. The location is great, easy to get to yet far from traffic, totally quiet and beautifully situated in the woods. Hiking trails right outside the gate, and many more a short drive away, great swimming in the river (as part of a hike) or in nearby Rollins lake. The house had all we could hope for: after hiking/swimming we read/snoozed in hammocks under the trees, cooked meals using the grill and well-equipped kitchen, plaid ping pong and other games, watched old movies on vhs and soaked in the hot tub under the stars. Will definitely come again!

Beautiful and Peaceful

We had an excellent time! Between the ping pong table, games, hot tub, and Piper we really didn't need to even leave the property. The sunrise hike is so beautiful. The hike to the American River was tempting but not all of our group could do it so we passed. Everything was provided just as the amenities list. Mosquitoes were only out in the evenings and not bad this time of year (July). We seen 3 deer during our stay too! Definitely recommend to those who love the country. Diane, thank you!

Wonderful cabin escape.

Great place in the woods!

Diane's place was well kept and obviously well loved. Diane was kind and helpful but not overbearing, her dog Piper was a joy as well. The place worked great for group of young families with kids and one childless couple. Highly recommend!

Beautiful property with everything you need!

We had a wonderful weekend at the house which provided easy access to many activities in Gold Country. But really there is no reason to even leave the property as there are hiking trails right up the road, a hot tub, fire pit, and tons of games. Kids and adults all had a blast. Diane was an excellent and attentive host. We look forward to visiting again!

Tons of fun in the woods!

I stayed at Diane's house with my partner and my 12-year-old son, and we had a wonderful time. There was so much to explore and so many great games and movies (not to mention the ping pong table!) that we wished we had another week at the house. Diane is attentive and thorough, the house is cozy and spacious, and the resident dog is a joyful addition to the experience. Thank you, Diane - we will definitely be back!!!

Restorative escape in the foothills

Our family of 4 plus grandma LOVED spending a week at this cozy cabin in the woods! The house was sparkling clean and super comfortable. Our host was on site and available for any questions, but also did not intrude on us at all. Easy access to hiking trails (with expert tips from our host on the best places to go) kept us busy, but was also loved hanging out at the house - on the deck, in the hammocks, in the hot tub - and playing tetherball and ping-pong. Piper was a wonderful doggy host and kept our dog company all week. The house is stocked with movies, games, and books including many for kids. This was just the break we needed.

This picture is of me and my dog, Amy (she is in "dog heaven" now), as we were resting on the large rock outcropping that overlooks the American River canyon on our way down the Pickering Bar trail. We have a new dog named Piper who will gladly accompany you on any of the local hikes. (She thinks that is her job.)

Why they chose this property

We bought this as our family compound, but as lives change, so did ours. Using this home as a vacation rental has helped me to finance my son's college education. I have also been able to donate weekly reservations to the numerous good causes, including the Down's Buddy Walk and numerous fund raisers for the families of Cancer patients. I move in myself when we have company from out of town and pretend that I am 'on vacation' too! It's great!

What makes this property unique

I love hiking down into the 'diggings', exploring the old gold mining areas, swimming in the mountain lakes, sitting in the spa under the stars and just enjoying the quiet solitude of this gorgeous and peaceful setting.
