A Battlefield Gem
This historic house was a silent witness to the great Battle of Antietam in 1862, and it's now available as a comfortable, much-loved, well provisioned guest house. The hosts are caring and involved, and the property equipped for comfort, peace, and quiet. Perfect for hikers/bikers on the C&O canal, visitors to the National Battlefield, or city folk wanting a small-town getaway. I'm sure to stay here every time I'm in the area!

Why they chose this property

We bought this wonderful little house in 2006 for several reasons. We wanted to preserve it and share it with others. We enjoy meeting our guests when they come to Sharpsburg to explore its place in history, to enjoy the area, to celebrate special occasions with friends and family. or simply to get-away.

What makes this property unique

Our guests and their dogs enjoy Antietam National Battlefield and its trails, exploring the town founded in 1763 with many of the homes and churches dating from the 1800s. They love the ice cream at Nutters and the restaurant and bar at Benders Public House. Outdoors folks appreciate being near the Appalachian Trail, the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath, which offer hiking, biking, and water fun for canoeing and tubing. The house is a perfect home base for Civil War enthusiasts who can visit the other battlefields within one hour's drive of Sharpsburg. The Sharpsburg Historical Society is happy to help researchers with their family history. The town fills with visitors for the Memorial Day Parade and program and for the Illumination at the Antietam National Battlefield in December. At other times of the year, the town is quiet and ready to welcome its visitors. The house is convenient, private, and quiet. Dogs are welcome to stay, and the whole house is for your party alone.
