All photos on this website were taken at Joshua Tree Paradise.

Joshua Tree Paradise is conveniently 2 miles from the town of Joshua Tree and 3 miles from the Western entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. We're adjacent to thousands of acres of County land and the landmark Coyote Hole.

Visit ROCK CITY only a 100 feet walking distance, and hang out for an entire;u different vibe. There are many shaded and open spots. This is my cave of creativity, where I photos my colorful lights paintings. Rock City is a film set, for a survivalist village set in 2030. Take photos.

The house is comfortable and equipped with everything you need but it is not the 4 Seasons. there's a wood wood burning stove and a full kitchen. Choose from a vast collection of DVDs and books or watch Mac TV on the 50 inch flat screen. Play with Legos and toys or select from one of many board games and puzzles.

Great for families, friends reunions, birthdays, hikers, rock scramblers, romantic getaways, star gazers, and for everyone who needs to reconnect to the earth.

Amateur photographers take amazing shots. Bring a tripod and photograph the stars and Rock City. Star gazers only turn on the red lights outside the house and see the stars in the dark.

Just steps from the house there are endless hikes to choose from. Go in any direction and you'll find something great. Visit JTP in the springtime and see the SUPERBLOOM, as the majestic desert turn green and blooms with flowers.

A 15 minute hike takes you to the landmark COYOTE HOLE WASH, first discovered in the 1860's, that has been a home to the indigenous peoples for 11,000 years. Ancient petroglyphs are carved on its cliffs. We sit adjacent to it.

You'll see a variety of animals including, road runners, coyotes, quail, owls, bats, fox, chuckwallas, lizards, hawks, snakes, humming birds, and lots of rabbits. There are yucca, Joshua trees, cholla, a variety of cacti, juniper, sage, cat's claw and many other plants.

For special events, I create light environments in which you walk through a COLORFUL PATH OF LIGHTS amongst the BOULDERS.

This exclusive property has been featured in photo shoots including the Calvin Klein 30th anniversary Men's Underwear Campaign, Levi's, Brooks Brothers, Doc Marten, GMC.

Listen to the highly acclaimed album "Reflections - Mojave Desert," recorded at Joshua Tree Paradise by Floating Points. It received fantastic reviews from all the major publications. I recommend listening to it while you are here.

I love meeting my guests, so you’re invited to come over and I can answer your questions and make recommendations. I’m an environmental artist, and project light upon the rocks creating an other worldly effect.

Host was super helpful!
Fantastic location and grounds. We had a great time hiking, star gazing, hanging out, and jumping off into the park. We did have heater trouble though. The host was immediately responsive, got repair people right on it, and kept following up with us to see to it we were taken care of. He’s a class act. We would definitely stay here again!

About the host

Hosted by Matthew Patrick

Host profile image
Matthew Patrick is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the Directors Guild of America. He is a photographer and an Academy Award Nominated film director. Matthew lives with his wife and 2 children in Hollywood. Joshua Tree Paradise is his favorite place on earth and is a constant source of inspiration and wonder for him.

In 1991 I visited Joshua Tree National Park and instantly fell in love with its unusual beauty. It feels like another world, yet Is close to Los Angeles I wanted land like the Park, so I purchased a 2.5 acre parcel in 1992. I camped on it often, sleeping under the stars. Even now I prefer to sleep outside over at Rock City, and rarely sleep in the house, regardless of the weather or season.

As time went on, I realized I didn't want any neighbors, so I bought the land around me. The property now totals 10 parcels and 100 acres. It's a half mile long and quarter mile wide. To walk the perimeter can take a day. If you walk towards the road, you will find tall cliffs and a deep wash, which is Coyote Hole, a landmark you will find in the guidebooks.

There is no other place like this in Joshua Tree. ROCK CITY provides a whole new level of adventure. Take amazing photos. Coyote Hole has been a favorite spot for indigenous people for thousands of years.
