the Corner cottage: Overlooking Hayden Brook, Steps to Lakewood Summer Theater
The adorable Corner cabin is a true piece of Lakewood Theater history. Charles F. Perkins was a very renowned and longtime (from 1912-1955) scenic designer at Lakewood, and his son, James, was an actor in several productions from 1932 - 1940. We purchased this camp in 2020 from James' daughter Barbara, and we love to imagine the creative meetings that took place there & the possibly very interesting guests. Many of the family antiques remain, and we have kept it decorated in the spirit of the Perkins eras in the hope to transport its guests back to a simpler time. With two bedrooms and space for roll-out cot, it will sleep four to five. There is a sunny kitchen, sitting room (complete with turntable & old records), bath and lovely screened porch as well, along with a beautiful grassy yard - a portion of which is one of the three common gardens in our cooperative and includes young apple trees and blueberry bushes. There is direct shared access to Hayden Brook across the road. The community bridge over Hayden Brook further down makes for a very short and pleasant walk to Lakewood Theater, Restaurant, and Lake Wesserunsett. The also famous Lakewood Golf Course is less than half a mile away.

This stay was nice. I enjoyed my time in a clean and comfortable little house. The interior was made to be old fashioned and was decorated nicely still maintaining an modern feel. A microwave wolves been nice to have in the kitchen, but other than that it was nice.
My wife and I were delighted to find this late season stay in Lakewood. We mentioned to the hosts that we enjoyed the show at the Lakewood Theater during a previous stay in the area. Before we knew it, she'd gotten us tickets for the bonus, end of season show at the theater. And she made reservations for us at the Lakewood Inn for dinner.
The evenings were a bit cool for us Texans so the new electric space heater was greatly appreciated!
We wanted a little family vacation get away and we loved it because there was no tv to distract us from spending quality time together. The house was the perfect size. It is an older house and well decorated just had to put up a few things which was no big deal because our 1 year old son gets into everything. The grounds were beautifully kept and my son and husband took many strolls around the area. Stores were close and the lake is walking distance. Overall it was a great experience and exactly what our little family needed.
Location was perfect for the area we wanted to explore.
The house served our needs as far as somewhere to have a meal and sleep.
Nice areas to walk.
Close to the lake. (Only a small spot that isn't private property)
Restaurant was close(we didn't get the opportunity to eat there)
We didn't realize there wasn't a TV but it was okay. Unplugging can be a good thing
Lakewood Theater close (we didn't see a show)
Lots of history
Could have used more towels and wash clothes (we purchased some and left there)
Upstairs doesn't have a lot of lighting (floor lamp wasn't working)
Could have used some hooks in the bathroom.
Nice place for a get away.
I had to travel back to Maine for a family funeral unexpectedly and needed to take my two dogs. Not wanting to place more burden on family, I quickly looked for a VRBO in the area. Finding the Perkins house and the Olive Street community was exactly what it needed to feel at home during this difficult homecoming.
The houses are maintained in true Maine style, nothing fancy, nothing modern, nothing more needed! It was clean, comfortable, and Dawnella made it feel very welcoming. Just like walking into a family home.
Area is convenient to shopping and a short walk to the theater and lake. But the biggest step you will take is back to a simpler time.
Was nice to get away from more of the modern "conveniences". Some of the pieces looked like they could have been shown in a museum, almost scared to use some things. Beds were a little soft for my taste. Walking around the neighborhood was scenic, especially crossing the common bridge after a heavy rain. Biggest surprise was how the clear the water was at the lake. Biggest regret was not eating the small tomatoes growing in the planter boxes, they were blown off the plant during the storm and some lucky deer probably got them (only 3 were ready)
My brother and I were traveling for our Uncle's funeral. We were thrilled to find the Perkins House was available. The house reminded us of our grandparents house in Harrison, ME. It brought us back in time to days of our childhood. I definitely want to return with my family to enjoy the Lakewood Theatre and the lake.

Disliked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
Property manager was very rude and threatening. Overall a horrendous terrible experience. We were blamed for damage that was pre-existing and billed for it. Not kid or animal friendly. We were yelled at just for having fun outside. The brook right across the road had a huge tree that came down right where my daughter was standing not long before. Dirty, dusty, moldy, and musty conditions in the cottage. The beds were really uncomfortable. It's no wonder they don't get many bookings. The lock on the door was broken. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs. The locals were very rude and suspicious. Not a place to have fun. Talk about feeling unwanted.
This cottage was a perfect place for my mother-in-law and I to stay while visiting family in the area. The beds were very comfortable and the cottage is in a very quiet location.
Easy access/check-in and good description of how to find the place and park.
My husband and I were visiting family close by. We also did an atv ride which was a short drive from the cottage. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The little loop of cottages was quiet and relaxing. There are many activities in the area. The cottage is close to Skowhegan, so you can get groceries there is a Walmart and Dunkins, yet it's out enough that it feels private and country like. The screened in porch was very nice. A short walk away and you are at the lake.
