About this property

Southwestern Gem, 4 BR, Mtn/Sunset View, AC, Hot Tub, WIFI, Great Location

This is a beautiful home that will provide a perfect setting in any season for a
getaway or an extended visit. Air Conditioning will keep you cool in the Summer and a Fireplace and Heating System will keep you cozy in the colder months. NOTE: discounted rates quoted for a stay of seven nights or more (extended visits) for all periods except Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years. A reliable and helpful LOCAL CARETAKER will respond to any request during your stay. We remain accessible from initial inquiry through the end of a visit. We have offered this house on VRBO as a vacation rental since 2004. It has been a successful and gratifying experience for both us as owners and our wonderful guests. We will provide any information you need and former guests are happy to provide a reference and information about their experience. Thank you for looking at this listing. We would be delighted to have you stay at Casa del Cielo y Sol.

Nestled in the beautiful and lush Tesuque Valley this classic adobe home is a perfect retreat where attention has been paid to all the details for a memorable visit. The spacious house is situated in the foothills of the Sangre de Christo mountains with a view to the Jemez Mountains. The lovely grounds feature fruit trees and lilac bushes. Enter through the Mexican gates to a private haven with Zen inspired gardens and beautiful views for a relaxing sojourn.

The open concept living space includes a large living room, furnished in comfortable Western style with leather sofas, easy chairs, art work, native rugs, a wood-burning fireplace and plenty of firewood, and big screen smart TV. This room invites solitary relaxation, conversation, and festive entertaining. Enjoy board games and cards at an oak table in the adjoining sun room. Or, if you must do a little work or want to connect with friends, there is WIFI.

In a separate area, set off by a rustic wooden column and beams with hand carved detail, is a heavy wooden dining table, surrounded with wood and leather chairs, seating eight to ten people friendly in front of a bank of full-length windows. They provide an airy, sun dappled space by day, a romantic vista of twinkling lights by night.

Cooks will love the kitchen with appliances, 5 burner stove, big stainless steel sink, and fabulous views from the large centerpiece window of the Jemez Mountains to the west. Situated so that the cooks can easily interact with family and friends in the living and dining areas, the kitchen also has an unobstructed view to the television for glimpses of a favorite show or movie while preparing dinner. Counter seating provides a perfect spot for chatting with the chef or enjoying an early morning cup of coffee, tea or cocoa.

The cabinets are stocked by people who love cooking with All-Clad, Calphalon and Le Creuset cookware and every small appliance and utensil imaginable. You’ll find plenty of dishes and serving pieces, mugs and bowls and glasses of all types -- including a large stock of stem ware for wine -- and Southwestern-style hammered stainless steel flatware. There is a diverse selection of cookbooks to inspire you, complete with high-altitude cooking tips.
A bright sun room features French doors that open to a redwood deck with native latillas above. There you’ll be drawn to watch splendid evening sunsets or enjoy a meal al fresco at a wrought iron table in a beautiful landscaped garden area a few steps away on a flagstone patio. Beyond the patio, a path leads to a private hot tub and deck with another table and chairs. Beyond that deck, take a hike up the hill on the path to look out to the mountains. Have a drink, a little something to eat, relax and enjoy the view to the open sky and the surrounding hills and trees. Through french doors off the dining room step onto a charming stone patio with a hand set stone wall, beautifully landscaped for a peaceful morning retreat or quiet evening with gentle lighting under a starry sky.

On the main level is a bedroom with bath that can be closed off for privacy. It is furnished with twin beds that can be converted into a comfortable King bed using the same system found at many spas, including Canyon Ranch. The room features a ceiling fan, large windows and ample closet space. The bath which is accessed through the hall and not the bedroom, has a tub and a shower.

A few steps down from the main level is the private master suite with a King bed. A Mexican armoire holds a Smart TV. Two traditional Havana rockers with hand caning set off the room. French doors open to beautiful gardens and a fountain to softly lull you. Marble tiles make the master bath a serene place to enjoy the large walk-in shower with spa bench. The vanity has two sinks, ample drawer space and an expansive mirror.

Upstairs are two additional bedrooms which share a charming bathroom with wrought iron details, a Mexican tin mirror and Talavera tiling. These bedrooms have ceiling fans and are also served by an evaporative cooling system (air conditioning common in Southwest dry conditions) which effectively cools the house. Each upstairs bedroom has French doors through which to step out onto a large deck, a perfect place for sunning, watching evening sunsets or enjoying the antics of hummingbirds vying for nectar from the feeders and numerous bird species providing entertainment for all ages.

The smoke-free house, accessed through an electronically operated gate and a winding driveway, is off Bishop's Lodge Road. A carport offers shelter for your vehicles. Hard to believe you’re only a short, lovely drive from Santa Fe’s famous Plaza.
Tesuque Village Market - the local grocery and dining place - is just two miles from the house. Keep an eye out for low-key celebrities here while picking up fresh produce, pastries, take-out and wine for dinner or just stop by for lunch. El Nido, just beyond Tesuque Village Market is one of Santa Fe's most desirable restaurants and bar. Nearby is the Santa Fe Ski Basin which is perfect for great skiing. The marvelous town of Taos, with its highly rated ski slopes, is only an hour away.

Can’t wait to return!
Our family of 7 had such a good time at this home! There was lots of space to spread out and lots of space for everyone to gather to talk, eat and play games. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen (equipped better than my own with plenty of spices, glasses/plates/silverware, etc.), grilling, using the hot tub, and enjoyed a fire in the fireplace. A great location just minutes away from the Santa Fe Plaza, and very close to Ski Santa Fe, where we spent our days. So many more things that we could have done if we had more time! Would HIGHLY recommend this home! Communication with the owners was effortless and smooth. Not sure if I’ll ever have a more positive experience with a VRBO as I had with this one. Would give it 10 stars if it allowed me to!!

Great to be back!
My extended family returned to this wonderful place for Thanksgiving 2023 after a 4 year hiatus due to the pandemic. Prior to that we had made this our Thanksgiving tradition for 4 years. It was so great to be back and the house was just as we remembered it. Our gracious host made sure everything was perfect. We plan on coming back for Thanksgiving 2024. It’s a truly beautiful place to enjoy Santa Fe.

A beautifully appointed, well managed refuge
Our experience in this lovely home was delightful. The hillside position above Tesuque village gave us privacy with beautiful views yet easy access to Santa Fe. We loved the kitchen, the gathering areas, the bird life and wonderful bedrooms. All around, an elegant, welcoming house.

Perfect in every way
This place is wonderful - Holly and Will are so responsive and consider every detail. Immaculate, quiet, perfect for our family week away. The kitchen is fabulous - everything from a Chemex to biscuit cutter to excellent sharp knives so if you like to cook you’ll love it. Comfortable beds, linens. Spend the day in Santa Fe or hike the trails nearby and relax in hot tub watch the sunset.. we enjoyed it and would definitely stay again.

About the host

We live in Atlanta, with regular visits to Santa Fe to enjoy the remarkable beauty of this place and to keep the property and grounds in perfect condition. We are the hands-on home owners and strive to offer the best of Santa Fe hospitality in sharing the home. We are available to guests for planning their visit and throughout their stay. There is a local caretaker and housekeeper who are available for services you may need.

Why they chose this property

We wanted a home and surroundings completely different from Atlanta and we found it. The house is very special and we derive great happiness, not only from our personal time there, but also from the experience of sharing it with guests. Many of our guests return to the home on a regular basis, some are enjoying their first trip to Santa Fe, awed and vowing to return to this magical place. We have such varied groupings: families of three generations celebrating together, newly married couples, friends who take annual trips together, women's groups and men's groups for exploring, shopping, hiking, golfing, visiting art museums and sampling amazing restaurants and enjoying the many festivals and special events. Foremost, for all of our guests, the opportunity to gather to enjoy the bond between them. A young couple was engaged at the top of the hill behind the house, another couple was married on the patio. In summer, the house provides a perfect venue for an extended stay for family and friends to visit. Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are very special and the house is a perfect setting. We know all this, because we have in fact experienced all of these opportunities ourselves and there is nothing quite like being with family, friends, and sometimes just with each other in a beautiful setting.

What makes this property unique

The house and location provide privacy, quiet and stunning beauty. The Plaza is close by as well as other destinations to experience Santa Fe. Enjoy all that is offered by exploring Santa Fe and then return to this beautiful, spacious, comfortable and fully equipped, well maintained home for a memorable, lasting experience.
