Stay in unparalleled peace and tranquility near Carmel Point. A place to read or write, to meditate and discover. After evenings in front of the fireplace you will retire to the distant whisper of the ocean surf. 'Garden Cottage' is a traditional Carmel cottage, just 3 short blocks from Carmel Beach.
The Cottage, started in the 1907 by John Geyland Howard, has been in my family for 50 years. It’s furnished in fine antiques. True to its name, Garden Cottage is surrounded by wonderful flowering gardens. There are patios on both sides, giving the choice of sun or shade in which to enjoy the birdsong and squirrels.
The Cottage is principally on one level, except the second bedroom and bath which are four steps up, making it comfortable for those with limited mobility. You will find everything you need for cooking adventures in the kitchen. The garden is fenced, and we welcome very well mannered children and pets. Because the Cottage is furbished in real antiques, many Georgian, all residents, particularly the young, must exercise care at all times.
Carmel-by-the-Sea is world renowned as a center for the arts. Whether it’s the paintings of Jane Gallatin-Powers and Xavier Martinez, the poetry of Robinson Jeffers and William Rose Benet, the writings of Sinclair Lewis and Jack London, David Starr Jordan or the photography of Edward Weston and Ansel Adams, you will find it in the shadows everywhere.
There are nearly a hundred art galleries in the Village, just 5 blocks from Garden Cottage. Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Spanish Bay make this paradise for golfers. The Monterey Peninsula hosts the largest concentration of golf courses in the US. You could play nearly every day for a month and not repeat a course!
Garden Cottage is just a few blocks walk from the Carmel Mission and a brief drive to Big Sur. Then there are the Carmel Bach Festival (July), the Pebble Beach Concourse (August), the Forest Theater Festival (June-July) and the Monterey Jazz Festival(September).
In nearby Monterey is Cannery Row, setting of John Steinbeck’s novels, and the location of the renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium. For those on business, the Naval Postgraduate School, the Monterey Institute of International Studies and the Defense Languages Institute are just a short drive.
Note: We and all other homeowners in the City of Carmel by the Sea are prohibited by Ordinance from renting for less than 29 nights. I am sorry I can not respond to requests for less than 29 nights. |
