Delightful

Perfect property, superbly located, down a wonderfully historic and pretty side road. Close to all necessary amenities, whether you are an avid walker, with or without your dog (s), or if you are visiting the local area for the rugby or the many local theatres. The house itself is clean, bright, and has a fully fitted kitchen and wonderful enclosed garden. Fully recommend

Relaxed

Super location at end of no through road so only noise was that of wildlife in adjacent park. Within 5 minutes walk of Thames and also bus into Richmond Town Centre and from there into London. Val sorted out a couple of minor problems whilst we were staying and during the booking process quickly answered our questions. Ideal for what we were looking for, namely a safe and comfortable stay within easy reach of London. Recommend

Wonderful!

This is a lovely, quiet, restful place to stay. The property was well maintained, clean, with literature on how the appliances, wifi, etc. worked. The location is 10 min from the train station and closer to regular bus service; and a short walk to the Thames; 30 minute by train to London Waterloo. We found two great pubs and enjoyed our time so much we want to go back!

A great find!

We stayed at the start of June 2015 with our two girls (3 and 5). This is such a lovely cottage - really peaceful and lovely having some outside space. It is also so close to everything you need. We had picnics in the park which is literally just round the corner, yet were only 10 mins walk from the station to get into London if that is what you fancy. St Margarets is lovely and has enough coffee shops and restaurants to keep anyone going! The cottage itself was perfect for what we wanted - it isn't huge but the four of us had plenty of space, even with all of the stuff the young children bring with them! The small touches like handwash, washing up liquid, kitchen towel etc make life much easier. We hope to come again.

A lovely cottage in a delightful location

We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay in this lovely cottage. It is in a delightful location in a quiet cul-de-sac with the river walk and parks close by. There is a local bus stop at the top of the road and St Margarets train station is within easy walking distance.

Comfortable home away from home in great location

The description of the cottage was quite accurate. It was very comfortable & provided me with a good base & also allowed me plenty of opportunity to entertain my two children & grandchildren who have moved to England from Australia. I also brought my daughter & another grandchild & all amenities required for a baby were provided including a stair barrier. The location to transport was excellent & the streetscape delightful. We hired a car which wasn't necessary as buses to the airport & Hampton Court were nearby as was St Margaret's station. Restaurants were plentiful nearby so it all made for an easy stay. The owner is a great communicator & was in touch via text to ensure we were happy. Excellent.

An oasis of calm...we really recommend it

Lovely compact cottage, beautifully presented, cosy and warm and such a peaceful area. Great riverside walks, so handy for Richmond and Twickenham stadium. The owner, Val is very helpful and easy to contact and arrange things with. We had a super stay and can recommend it to anyone, we usually stay in a hotel in Richmond and this was so much nicer we could really chill and relax with our 2 daughters

Well worth another visit

Our group of 4 had stayed here last year and we were pleased to be able to come again this summer. The cottage is absolutely delightful: it is quite compact but has everything you could want to feel totally at home. It benefits from being in a quiet cul-de-sac with no through traffic. It was especially lovely to sit out in the very private garden either to eat or just to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Large parks and the river are close by. We regularly used the foot-ferry to get to the other side of the river too. There are lots of useful and interesting shops and a railway station just a few minutes walk away in St. Margarets. Larger shops are fairly close by in Twickenham (a relatively short walk along the river) and Richmond. There are really good transport links to other areas, central London, and Heathrow. As before, Val was incredibly helpful and welcoming. I'm hoping that the annual event we attend will be in the same area again next year so that we can pay yet another visit to our favourite London holiday home.

Idyllic cottage - charming and homely

Over the course of a couple of months earlier this year, my husband rented this cottage on and off as a base for work when he was up in town. We then visited at the weekends whenever we could. It was a heavenly, charming place that we immediately fell in love with. Its location is perfect. Hidden away down a no through road, beside the park and just around the corner from the river - you would have no idea that you were so close to the city. The parrots were incredible too. Loads of them in the trees above the cottage! We spent many happy hours in Marble Hill Park and wandering along the river towards Twickenham or Richmond and stopping off at the White Swan on the way. There is a bus stop at the top of the road which takes you into Richmond in a few minutes and also parking both on Montpelier Row over night or at the top on Richmond Road where you can park all day very reasonably. The house itself was perfect. It was very well kept and equipped and always had great linen and towels. We also loved opening the french windows onto the garden which you could sit in and feel really away from it all. Finally, the owner Val is totally accommodating and was very kind at all times. She was a delight to deal with. We hope to stay again when ever we need to be up in London again in the future.

VERY COMFORTABLE 'HOME AWAY' - Quaint and charming

Wonderful garden cottage situated in a quiet and attractive 'no-through road' residential street. Beside Marble Hill Park and very close to the Thames tow path....so endless available and interesting walks. Very good bus service just at the end of the street and a pleasant walk to both St Margarets and Richmond. Good pubs and restaurants scattered about the close neighbourhood. Cottage was immaculate and provided just everything you could want from large fluffy towels to a vast range of kitchen utensils etc. Attached garden was marvellous as french doors opened onto it which brought the outside in and made it so relaxed. The odd squirrel appeared too! A wonderfully character filled abode and one which we'd loved to return to one day. Sally & Neil, Auckland, N.Z.

Wohlfühlen wie zuhause-you feel good like at home

CLASSY LOCATION

We spent a short break in this very nice property in January of this year, specifically to shop the last of the London sales and see a West End show. We had a very enjoyable time and were most impressed with the classy location, which was also extremely quiet. The cottage was cosy and warm and excellent for transport. We loved our stay so much that we made a return visit a couple of months ago, the weather by then was warm enough to have lunch in the beautiful garden. The River Thames between Richmond and Twickenham is lovely, with lots of interesting places to visit and we loved it!

Perfect Holiday Location

Myself, my wife and our daughters aged 10 and 12 very much enjoyed our stay in this charming property during November. For us the location was perfect, the street was very quiet with no traffic noise. The property was adjacent to a nice park and the river Thames, yet was close to shops and restaurants and the amenities of both St. Margaret's and Richmond. Also, it was very easy to catch the train into London to visit all the famous sites. The cottage is not large, but was just perfect for a family of four and the garden was a bonus. There was plenty of information about places to visit, but we would definitely recommend a visit to Hampton Court Palace, as the kids particularly enjoyed exploring the maze and also Windsor Castle, which we found was easy to do by the train from Richmond. The White Swan on the riverbank is also a must, nice setting for lunch or just a drink.

Great Location

Loved the location, very smart, the hub without the hubbub! Easy access to Central London, but loads to do locally and especially liked Kew Gardens. Very nice property with everything needed for a holiday stay, including a private garden. Also, a good selection of books, DVDs’ and games and the cupboards had basic essentials such as tea, coffee and sugar, as well soap powder and dishwasher tablets etc. We were made to feel very welcome in this home away from home. A success!

We stayed at this cosy cottage in September and will surely recommend it to all our friends and family. The cottage is well equipped and very clean and description accurate. Situated in a lovely area close to Twickenham and Richmond with many good restaurants and shops. Our host , Val was also very accommodating and efficient . Ariza Malaysia.

Cosy cottage in a beautiful peaceful location

Four of us were attending an event across the river in Richmond, and were delighted to find this super little cottage. It's in a beautiful and peaceful spot right next to Marble Hill Park. Even though our visit was during the hottest week of the summer, the cottage was cool enough with the sash windows open top and bottom. As it's at the end of a cul-de-sac then there was no traffic noise to keep us awake. The cottage is compact - the twin bedroom may feel a little small for 2 larger than average people - but was just fine for us (4 average sized adults). The garden is very private and shaded in the morning and early afternoon - a delightful place to have breakfast and lunch and a friendly robin was a regular visitor. We were out and about so much enjoying the wonderful weather and the nearby parks that we didn't have time to use the large selection of games, DVDs, or books. There's a great selection of shops and cafes only a few minutes walk away in St Margarets. An excellent butcher, large greengrocer, wholefood shop and french bakery were our particular favourites. There are lovely walks along the river to both Twickenham and Richmond, and the foot ferry to Ham House was really handy. Val was incredibly helpful and welcoming and we are all looking forward to a return trip next year.

Comfortable starting point to explore London

When we arrived from Germany we fall immediately in love with this cosy cottage at the end of the Montpelier Row next to Marble Hill Park. Great location as described! The house is just 100 m from the next bus station with frequent buses and very good connection to London, Windsor, and Oxford etc. via St. Margarets or Richmond Station. But you don’t need to go far, the beauty of nature is just around the corner and we enjoyed relaxing walks to the parks and along the river to Richmond and Twickenham. After a lively day at London, we enjoyed the calm privacy of the patio of the cottage. In case of rainy days there are plenty of books and DVDs. The internet access is essential and supported us to be connected with home (and business). We found helpful information collected in a folder in the cottage about our needs including recommendations of restaurants and shopping nearby. All essential facilities are provided and everything you need for the two weeks holidays is available. We received plenty of fresh towels and bed linen. The service and good understanding of any questions was excellent: fast response and very helpful suggestions regarding our sightseeing tours. Thank you, Val! We certainly recommend this cottage to our friends and we will consider strongly returning one day!

Lovely Idyllic Cottage

I stayed in this property for a few days in late April, while on a business trip to Richmond. It totally lived up to the reviews and my expectations. The cottage, the garden and the location were all excellent. Transport was very good, although I preferred to walk into Richmond most days, which took about 10 minutes to my office. I have already asked about returning later in the year and have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Delightful cottage, perfect location

I have just returned from spending a short break in this delightful property. The cottage is little gem of a place, very comfortable and well equipped, even down to Scrabble and DVDs, a pretty garden and the location is just perfect. There was so much to do locally, we only went into Central London once and found that very easy to do by taking the train from St. Margaret’s Station to Waterloo and then we walked across Waterloo Bridge straight into Covent Garen, great! We also spent time exploring Richmond, which is a lovely place, as well as walking along the river to Twickenham and stopping off at Orleans House Gallery and to have lunch at a very nice pub right on the waters edge. This cottage is a real find.

Cosy Cottage

Fabulous quiet & cosy holiday home. We loved the quiet street lined with elegant Georgian houses, the park around the corner and its little cafe, the buses 100m from the house for trips to Richmond or the tube to central London. Sky & wifi essential for survival with our children; DVDs & books definitely a plus. Heating ( with double glazing, works a treat) and hot water on tap so even a visit in mid Feb was comfortable. I agree with a prior reviewer that it would be very nice to be able to open the patio doors, even in winter, and I'm sure in summer, but understand that security is a concern anywhere in London.

A Gem of a Cottage

A colleague and I stayed at the cottage on Montpelier Row when we came to do research at the National Archives in Kew in late October, 2012. The cottage met all of our expectations and was comfortable, safe, quiet, and a nice home away from home. The owner, Val, was extremely helpful in providing us information on the cottage and on Twickenham/Richmond before we began our trip. Her directions and travel suggestions were spot on. We were able to take the local bus from Heathrow Airport right to the top of Montpelier Row. The two bedrooms, bathroom, living room, and kitchen were warm, neat, clean, and well-furnished. It had everything we needed. The beds were particularly comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was always strong. The clothes washer and drying racks were a welcome addition. The outside garden, surrounded by plants and trees, provided a private, yet relaxing spot at the end of the day and a picturesque scene to wake up to and have breakfast. We appreciated the WiFi access, in keeping up with the news and our emails. The cottage is well built to keep out outside noises, and the location is particularly quiet that getting to sleep at night is not a problem at all. We also felt secure and safe in the neighborhood. The cottage is also well-situated to a bus route which travels everywhere one might need to go. In our case, one bus got us from the top of Montpelier Row to the doorstep National Archives in about 20 minutes. It is also a few minutes walk to the train station, where we took an overnight to Oxford and a short trip into London. On Val’s suggestion, we purchased an Oyster card, which is the simplest and less expensive way to travel. But one need not venture further than the cottage’s neighborhood to explore and enjoy a wonderful and relaxing time. You are only a few minutes from a pleasant river walk, the beautiful grounds of the Marble House is practically in its backyard. Grocery stores, markets, and all sort of food shops are minutes away. Val provides a good listing of restaurants, pubs, and local places to see. (Do take her advice and try the St. Margaret’s!) The cottage on Montpelier Row is an ideal place for vacationers as well as for those on business and not wanting the inconveniences of a hotel. It is also convenient for those planning to use the National Archives in nearby Kew. We recommend it highly and look forward to returning again next year.

Perfect Holiday Home!

We stayed in the Richmond Cottage for a week and it was excellent! The owner is friendly, caring and super helpful with everything (from directions to general advice...) and she even put an additional mattress for our smallest one. The cottage is lovely and very well equipped, everything you need to make you feel at home, from WiFi to converter plugs and the blowdryer one might have forgotten... We used the garden for breakfast and dinner everyday, the neighborhood is mega silent - so restful sleep is guaranteed. The place is very well connected to London, Richmond is worth a stroll and Kew Gardens a must!!! If ever we happen to come to London again, we'll definitely be back :)

Perfect Home away from Home

We have been in the UK (including London) many, many times. Camping, B&B and hotels. Nothing compares to this gem. The cottage is well situated in a quiet neighbourhood and well equipped. It has everything needed to make you feel at home. Including good and very friendly service by the owner Val Metheringham. We spent 15 days at Montpelier Row and enjoyed every minute. The small garden is perfect for a relaxing breakfast or dinner. We enjoyed having our daughter and her family (living in nearby Richmond) for dinner in "our" home. The sun comes around 1:30 PM and stays till 6 PM. Connections to airport (bus 490), London city (Overland train from St. Margerets), Hampton Court (River cruise) or other places of interest (e.g. Wimbledon) are easy. The cottage has a small library including brochures, bus/traintables etc. You could also decide just to stay in the area. Richmond is a charming village with an interesting history - 2 theatres and cinemas. The Thames runs almost in the backyard providing good possibilities for jogging along the banks. There are good tennis courts close by - the best ones you'll find in Cambridge Gardens, with a view to the river. We can recommend having lunch in the Petersham Nursery and dinner at the Duke in Richmond. We were only two persons staying there - with a friend visiting us a couple of days. But the cottage is also perfect for a family of four. We have booked our next stay in the cottage. Almost 3 weeks in October/November. We look forward to it already. Kind regards Jørgen Bernth & Jytte Fisker
