My husband and I stayed here for a month in January (off season). The complex was nice, and it's just less than 1 mile to the pier and village area - perfect for 15-20 min daily walks there on the bike path.
We had an enjoyable stay though we did run into one relatively major issue toward the end, which Gil, the owner, was excellent at handling. He is very responsive and went out of his way to make sure things were fine for us before the stay ended.
All in all this was a nice place, nice location, and really nice host!
Since we travel full time and work on the road, we pay attention to a few other things worth noting that might or might not affect typical travelers:
- The first day the wifi was not as fast or strong upstairs (where I set up my office space) as we thought it would be; we wound up plugging in our own router and that fixed the problem. We didn't bother Gil with this since we had an easy solution, and it's possible a simpler solution would have fixed it up too. Downstairs wifi was not an issue.
- We barely had to touch our own kitchen supplies, and had no trouble using the kitchen for our meals (we cook 50-75% of the time). A good amount of silverware, plates, glasses, pots/pans, knives, oven dishes, etc. were present. Even some tupperware containers and some spices, too.
- Since we do travel with everything we own, there isn't really any place to store large bins or bikes inside, or hang up jackets downstairs, and we kind of took over the living and dining rooms with our "stuff". If you are a typical traveler this probably won't be an issue for you except for maybe the bikes. There are few bike racks in the complex but we like having them closer to us.
- Neighbors were all very friendly (everyone on the island was friendly). Most of the month, there were only neighbors on one side, and we couldn't hear anything at all through any walls.
- The king bed was very comfortable; we didn't sleep in the other beds.
- We loved having real cable. We were able to watch all the sports games we cared about, which we really appreciated.
Again, all in all, an enjoyable stay. We liked St Simon's Island in general a lot, and appreciated Gil's responsiveness during the month.
