Thanks to the mild climate and the beauty of the landscape, Positano has been a holiday resort since the time of the Roman Empire. The city is full of stairs and picturesque alleys that will take you to the beach. It will be a pleasant walk among boutiques, art galleries and limoncello factories. The main beaches are: Spiaggia Grande and Fornillo, both within walking distance. There are also pretty beaches to be found: La Porta, Arienzo and San Pietro Laurito, all accessible mainly by boat. Another important plus point is the church of Santa Maria Assunta with an elegant dome decorated with coloured slabs of majolica which preserves the famous Byzantine Icon of the Black Virgin. Another special mention goes to the “Bar Internazionale” not just because it is the oldest bar in Positano but also for the kindness and availability of the owners, as well as for the excellent pastries that you can taste.
