Villa Acacia- Spectacular Ocean view & heated pool

Modern spacious villa with spectacular panoramic ocean views with heated infinity-like pool in a quiet area 500 meters above sea level. 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 8.

Villa Acacia is a luxury 4 bedroom holiday villa completed in 2016. Located on the edge of the peaceful village of Loreto, 1679 ft/500m above sea level, it commands awe-inspiring, panoramic sea views. Facing South the villa and the pool and terraces enjoy full sunshine from early morning to sunset.

The villa features an outdoor private heated pool, surrounding sun terrace, top floor balcony, garden, barbecue facilities, free WiFi and free gated private parking for 3 cars.

The villa has 4 bedrooms (3 have direct pool access with ocean views), 4 bathrooms, a games room, bed linen, towels, a flat-screen TV, a dining area and a fully equipped modern kitchen.

The top floor is a reverse level arrangement, with a kitchen, dining and lounge area, to the rear is the 4th bed- and bathroom (shower). A balcony runs the full length of this floor, and the view is ever present throughout the glass doors and window that cover about 75 % of all walls. Accessibility is provided by in - & outside stairs leading down to the ground floor(s).

The ground floor has three bedrooms all with direct access to the swimming pool & terrace and all with magnificent sea views. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom (shower). The 2nd and 3rd bedroom share a bathroom (shower) on the same floor. (All bathrooms have a washing basin with mirror - toilet & shower)

The basement floor features a large games room with a full size pool table, table tennis and table football. Situated here is also a fourth bathroom (shower) with laundry facilities (washer, dryer, iron & board) and a small utility terrace outside.

The heated swimming pool is 10 metres long x 3.5 metres wide.
It ranges between 150cm & 180cm in depth. (no shallow end)

*Young children must always be kept under supervision in and around the pool. As an Infinity-like Pool, the views are magnificent, but there is a 4-metre drop on the rear side of the pool. This area is constructed for safety, so only dangerous when daredevilry or adolesencee would be involved.

One week holiday - Group of 9

We recently stayed at this delightful rental, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The host was incredibly accommodating (as we had one extra person joining last minute), going above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. The house itself was great, well-appointed, and filled with thoughtful touches. From the welcoming drinks to the detailed local recommendations, every aspect of our stay was carefully considered. Communication with Tanja was prompt and friendly, and any requests we had were handled with efficiency. This rental is a gem!

Superb Villa with an Awesome View

A villa that offers everything in peaceful surroundings. Games room was a massive hit, especially in changeable weather. Phenomenal view of Arco da Calheta, especially at night from the heated pool. Villa host (Tanja) and taxi driver (Antonio) absolutely brilliant, and always on-hand to help out.

Fabulous Views!

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful home on an amazing island. The views from the property are stunning and it is exceptionally well equipped. The pool is a really good temperature and the basement has a great games room. The communication from the owners was fantastic and they were extremely attentive. We definitely hope to be back!

Far exceeded expectations

Far exceeded expectations. Owners are kind and attentive. Location is on a hill side looking down to the sea which is beautiful day and night. Car is essential if you're staying here but this would be the same anywhere on the island to get the best of this wonderful place.

Fantastic views and nice quiet location

Had a great holiday, villa is well appointed with great facilities and everything we needed, and we have had a great family time away. Villa is located in a nice and quiet area near Calheta, and the local restaurants and bars are all reasonably price and very welcoming, a car is a must though given area is very hilly. We have made the most of Calheta beach and the Marina, which is beautiful. Also taken trips out to Funchal which is 40 mins away. The pool gets sun all day, although there is a large drop on one side with no safety barrier so care needed, especially with kids. All up we’ve had a great time and I can absolutely see why people return, the sunsets have nearly been as good as the sunrises! The owner has been very helpful with our queries and I would recommend Madeira, and this villa, to anyone looking for some sun not far from the UK. We came in December and everyday was 20+ degrees.

Wonderful villa in a great location!

We had a terrific holiday. We loved the villa and would happily rent it again in the future to explore more of the island. It’s perfectly equipped, clean, spacious and in a great location - commanding a wonderful view over the sea and surrounding town. It was hard to drag the girls away from the pool for us to explore the island and we all looked forward to a swim after slogging up and down mountains. Bill has taken time and effort to produce some very helpful tips about the locality and comprehensive advice about travelling to the villa and using its facilities - even mentioning the harmless millipedes! And he has helpfully collected the villa’s equipment instructions in one place. We all greatly enjoyed our memorable stay in this incredible property!

Lovely well appointed villa with great facilities and simply amazing views! The owner and property manager were very helpful and extremely quick at getting back to you over questions. The games room was enjoyed by all. We were two families sharing the villa and there was plenty of space for everyone. Beds and sofas were very comfortable too. Highly recommended!

Beautiful villa

Villa was absolutely amazing, completely as described. Pictures don't really do it any justice. I was actually a bit ill for the first few days of our 2 week holiday so thank god I had a lovely couch to chill out on and plenty of tv channels to watch so that was a good send. We used the pool table a few times and that was fun. The heated pool we used daily. It was still a bit cold, but then it's November and to be honest once you made the final diveand actually got in it was fab. Views from the villa are just incredible and something we never got tired of looking at. We didn't hire a car, we just used a taxi company who were brilliant. We used the little shop which was about 10 mins walk away, but it only sold a few items we used and sold out of things like milk and port. It did seem to take days for them to restock. We used pingo doce a few times in the end which was a much bigger and I'll be honest, much more friendly shop. It took about an hour and a half to walk to but then we caught a taxi back. It was a lovely walk down although not many pavements about but it added to the fun. There are, as people have mentioned, quite a few hills around. If you're not really good with walking uphill a lot then I would hire a car. We did go to funchal which is definately worth a visit. It is a lot busier because it's a city but there is plenty to do there. We had a brilliant holiday and Bill the owner was very lovely to deal with and responded to all our enquires, quickly. The same can be said with rose, who manages the property. We have no hesitation in booking this beautiful villa again.

Beautiful villa exactly as described!!!

Firstly, if using a sat nav, make sure you use the postcode and make sure your maps are up to date as mine tried to send me up a one way road. Basically once in Loreto just keep going until you have passed the trees in the middle of the road and then take the next right. Your sat nav should pick back up from there. You enter the villa on the ground floor where there is a bathroom and 3 of the bedrooms which all have sliding doors out to the infinity pool. Downstairs is the fantastically spacious games room with a bathroom/utility room and a door out to small enclosed yard where you can hang your washing out to dry. Upstairs is the main lounge with THREE reclining 3-seater sofas, a dining table and chairs for 8 people. There is a large flat screen tv with Blu-ray player and a cable connection that picks up dozens of channels (many of which are American with Portuguese subtitles). The other half of the open plan room is a very modern kitchen and breakfast bar. The whole length of the upstairs room has sliding doors out to the balcony which has a truly amazing view over the valley and the sea. I would have to say that if you are going to stay here it is absolutely essential that you hire a car (with at least a 1.5L engine) as the villa is up an incredibly steep hill which is almost impossible to walk up whilst carrying shopping. The villa is approximately half a mile from the village centre where there are a few small shops and coffe house/bars. There is a large supermarket at the marina which is a 10 minute drive away and there are also several restaurants there too. Overall I would say that for adults who want to relax this is the perfect place to stay. It may not be the best place for families with young children who get fed up quickly (unless you hire a car). A lot of people have commented about barking dogs at night but this really wasn't a problem for us as once you are in bed with the doors closed you can't really hear them. One tip I would give is that if you own a decent pair of binoculars be sure to take them with you. We put ours on a tripod and set them up on the balcony and there was so much to look at from falcons hunting 20 metres from the balcony to the fish farm in the sea. And it was so surreal saying good morning to the paragliders as they floated past the balcony while we were sat having breakfast. Amazing!!!!

Beautiful views and fantastic villa

Wonderful villa and one of the best holidays we have had for a long time. Very well equipped villa and good layout or bedrooms and living space. The pool is fantastic and great outdoor space for sunbathing and eating. All with beautiful views from the mountains to the sea - in a 180 degree vista. Breakfast on the balcony was always a treat in the early sunshine. The villa was very clean and the games room is a real plus. The only thing we could suggest to improve would be some DVD's and games to play in the evening as the tv channels are a bit restricted. But that is a minor thing. We would thoroughly recommend the villa and Madeira.

Wonderful stay in paradise

I can hardly express how wonderful this place is: breathtaking views over the city (Calheta) and the Atlantic Ocean, spotless and spacious rooms, a beautiful terrace to relax and to enjoy the sunset, ping-pong and pool table in the basement and last but not least the infinity pool on the first floor. We wished, we could stay there forever ! Blue Ocean Villa combined with the gorgeous hiking trails following the "Levadas" and the pleasant climate (23°C at day, 20°C at night) makes up for the perfect vacation. We were provided with a great info package by Bill, the owner, that included everything one needs to know. Some words of advice: except for the highways, streets in Madeira are very narrow, steep and rarely straight. We arrived in Funchal at 9:00 pm and rented a car to get to the Villa in the dark. We probably would have been lost without a GPS. However, use the exact GPS coordinates from the info package to get there and not the address !

First class accommodation

Prior to our visit we received everything we needed to know from the owner and also a contact in case of any problems. Instructions and directions were all good. The property is spacious with fantastic views overlooking the surrounding settlement and ocean. There are two wide balconies with plenty of seating. The house is very well equipped with everything you need . All furnishings and equipment are of a good quality. There is ample internal space to spread out. The tv worked fine but no DVD’s are provided. The games room is a good feature but there is some damage to the football table and the pool table really needs to be levelled in order to make it playable. The outdoor pool is great if you are competent swimmers, but be aware there is no shallow end if you have children or are non swimmers yourself. There is ample car parking, but getting in and out may not be easy if you have more than one car. The above were only minor niggles and overall this is still a fantastic house to spend a holiday in and certainly one of the best we have used. There is small local supermarket which is very well stocked.

We had a marvellous stay at Bill's villa. It was a really plush villa with everything you would expect from such a high end property. On arrival, first impressions were first class - it was thoroughly clean and each room had ample supplies of towels. The cooking facilities in the kitchen were marvellous, the beds comfortable, the showers powerful and warm. Along with this the free wifi, large flat screen tv and satellite facilities were very welcome. Bill's folder with suggestions for places to visit and local restaurants were a fantastic addition and really ensured that we made the best use of our week in Madeira. Best of all was the villa's location with the marvellous views of surroundi ng countryside and coast line. An abiding memory for us will be lying in bed and watching the sun come up each morning. Many happy memories from a splendid week. Regards, Stephen

Schade.

Fantastic! Luxury villa!

This is the best villa I have ever stayed it. It is so much bigger than the pictures show. Car hire is essential, it is a little struggle to walk to the bins let alone the shops so I would higlly recommend a car. I opted for a VW polo 1.2 but was upgraded at the airport for very little difference to a 1.6 BMW 1 series. This handled the steep climbs a lot better than I expect the polo would have. Arriving at the villa on the first evening we were greeted by a ver clean and tidy villa. The games room on the bottom floor is great fun, it would be even better if there was a bar down there ha The bedrooms were all great sizes and it was great that there were so many toilets and showers to choose from. The top floor is perfect. Great kitchen space and a very good oven and hob. We did most of our cooking in the villa and had everything we needed. Lots of pans, cutlery and an obsession with the coffee maker. Great reclining sofas to relax on whilst watching tv, we weren't blessed with the greatest weather when we stayed so sun bathing wasn't really an option most days but luckily the villa had so much to entertain us we were happy. The pool was great too, again it would have been used more but the weather was cloudy and not the warmest. I can imagine August is boiling up there. The views from the villa are just out of this world, you never tire of looking out to see and across the valley. The one negative we had about our stay is the dog barking. There are lots of dogs in Madeira more than anywhere I have stayed in the world. But they like to bark all day and all night. We were woken up a lot during our stay by neighbours dogs barking, which I am a fellow dog owner so I can understand it's difficult to stop but it did get a little annoying especially in the middle of the night. We were made aware of the little bugs and creepy crawlers so we didn't mind seeing those around and they were harmless so don't be afraid. There is a local shop 5 minutes away which has a butchers and bakery inside, we preferred this to the supermarket down at the marine. Much nicer veg and meat in our opinion and very cheap too. You can buy 10 fresh bread rolls for around 40 cents. We found the island wasn't expensive at all, parking in Funchal was really cheap it was approx 1.5 euros for 3 hours. We would recommend the cable car to the top of Funchal and toboggan down this was great fun. There isn't much else to do or see other than that in the capital. 10/10 stay, loved it.

An outstanding villa with dreamlike qualities - a week is not long enough!

We stayed here at the end of March 2017 - a family of parents, two sons, daughter and daughter in law. The villa had everything that we could have wished for - plenty of space, great games room, barbecue, pool and a fabulous view with an ever changing sky. Having only six days it was always going to be a tussle between making the most of the villa and the most of the island of Madeira. The villa was very spacious and well equipped and our chef son thoroughly enjoyed preparing our suppers and using the barbecue while we all absorbed the glorious sunsets. The location was ideally suited for us. We enjoyed walking up and down the hills to the supermarket and bars. The supermarket had good basic foods and drinks and the veranda behind the bar was a great place for a beer or coffee and nata - and another great view. We visited the pizzeria a couple of times - very welcoming staff. For the fresh meat and fish, the supermarket in Calheta was excellent and very good value. Everyone has different ideas for a good holiday - for us Funchal was not that inspiring - it has to cater for all the cruise ships. We enjoyed seeing the botanical gardens and the views over the city. We couldn't find parking so drove up to the gardens and more by luck found free parking down a side road just near where the taxis park by the exit from the gardens. We then did the cable car rides in reverse - up to Monte, down to the city and back up and down to the gardens. One of our most enjoyable days out was driving and wandering round the north coast - we particularly liked Seixal which was quiet and had a lovely restaurant up in the village with simple but delicious fish dishes. Another day we visited Santana and later walked along the levada in Queimadas. Lunch in the large restaurant just a little way up from the traditional thatched cottages was also excellent. Everywhere we went we experienced nothing but friendly and courteous people. One of the best things about the villa was its location - well away from tourist hot spots. Peaceful, local, unsophisticated - just the sort of place our family likes. The supermarket is the stopping off place for tour groups needing the loo and picnic items before they start the levada walks at Rabacal which is up on the top if you continue past the villa; but as quickly as they all pile in, they leave again and peace returns!!! We all recommend this villa - we just wish we could have slowed down Old Father Time whilst there - thank you.

About the host

Hosted by Tanja Holzhaus

Host profile image
Hello, We are Andy and Tanja and we live in the Netherlands. Andy is originally from England and I was born and raised in Amsterdam. We've been married for over 20 years and we love to travel whenever we can. We have our own company in IT and Photography which allows us to work from different locations. When we came to Madeira for the first time we just loved it immediately. After a few more visits we decided to look for a second house here and after more then 4 years we finally found 'the one' .

Madeira is so beautiful, versatile, safe and friendly. It has a vast history, culture, beautiful nature, unique sea water-swimming pools, a network of Levadas and mountain trails. You can go to the beach and catch some sun and then later set of in the ancient Lauris Lava (laurel tree Unesco protected forrest) and find yourself amidst the clouds. The weather is very nice throughout the year (give or take some windy or stormy days sometimes) and there are whales and dolphins swimming near by the coast. (there are several Sea-life watching trips with guaranteed sightings) There are many different and affordable restaurants with great local dishes and loads of little (Poncha = local alcoholic specialty) Poncha and traditional bars. For real clubbing and nightlife Funchal is the place to go. Most people speak (some) English so it's easy getting around without speaking Portugese, although a few words are always highly appreciated :)

Why they chose this property

Although we love Funchal and the surrounding area, and also many other different places around the island, Arco de Calheta has overall the best weather, more direct acces to the mountains and sea-life and a small (handmade) beach surrounded by a cute harbour and nice restaurants and 5* hotels. It is less busy and very central to go anywhere on the island.

This property was shown to us because we were in the area looking at another house. And while it was bigger then what we searched for, the moment we stepped upon the balcony we were sold! The view is all we ever wanted, the pool is an unexpected plus and the spacious house with it's modern and local features truly our style. Luckily it turned out that it was already a Holiday let with impressive reviews and that the property managers would keep running it for us as they did. They are a couple from England and Madeira and such wonderful service-minded and friendly people, that we dared to make the leap and here we are.

Although perfect at is we are looking at some future improvements and extra's, without taking away anything that made people love it so much so we truly hope we can make people love their stay their as much as we love to be there :)

What makes this property unique

Here I'm supposed to say what our UNIQUE benefits are and I'm not sure what 'unique' would be as not much is unique nowadays but I can say what WE love about the house; The view (oh had I already mentioned that?) the 10 x 3.5 infinity pool, the sunrise over the mountain on the left - sun all day - and then the sunset on the right into the ocean. The spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, the balconies top and poolside overlooking the ocean. (Even from the top floor you have constant view around thanks to the glass walls and windows) The side terrace with garden and BBQ.. The fact there is room for a full size game room and that everything is well kept and modern in style .I love to cook, so a fully equipped kitchen is a must and I love the granite cooking island.
I guess maybe in short it's better to ask what I don't like :) - The climb back up on foot with groceries - Taking the wrong road up (read OUR directions not Google maps!) in the car (Holland is as flat as a pancake so I have to get used to some of these steep hills- maybe their no bother to you) but other then that we just totally love the place.
