Excellent stay, the hosts do go above and beyond for you, good value for money stay. If you're looking for a getaway for a couple or small family then I would recommend here.
Wonderful stay over Christmas, first time away for the festive season! Cottage was lovely and cozy, hosts couldn't be any more welcoming. No query was too small for Janet and Mike, would thoroughly recommend this tranquil escape in the Welsh Hills
We loved staying at this beautiful cottage in such a beautiful location. It was so cozy and the surrounding area was everything we dreamed it would be. Janet and Mike were so welcoming and helpful. We felt like we were visiting family! The surrounding gardens and all the flowers are bountiful and obviously lovingly cared for. And we loved all the nature: bunnies, chickens, and sheep. A total paradise.
A wonderful weekend in this picturesque cottage.
Incredible gardens, scenery, location, cottage and a particularly good wood burner.
Mike & Janet could not have been nicer, and more accommodating, while we also had so much privacy and space in this secluded, calm and quiet location.
The stairs were pretty steep, but we managed to get a child gate at the top and our two kids loved their time there. We enjoyed walking up Sugar Loaf mountain together which was about a 30min lovely drive. Recommend the vineyard cafe enroute too btw!
Will definitely be coming back somepoint.
Tom & Sarah,
We spent a couple of very nice days in this cottage.
The cottage is very nicely located with a nice view over the hills. You have two verandas where you can sit, one of which is covered.
Janet gives you a warm welcome and shows you everything in the cottage.
The cottage has a complete, modern kitchen and bathroom. The room is a bit dark, but if possible you'll still be sitting outside enjoying the view.
The stairs upstairs are a challenge for someone with shoe size 47.
The cottage can be tricky to find despite Janet's accurate directions. This is because you have to go up the gravel/grass path to the top and it is further than you initially expect.
The garden is also gorgeous and includes chickens and rabbits running around.
This cottage is highly recommended for anyone wanting to stay in this area. There is plenty to do and see nearby.
The property is in a beautiful part of the country and ideal for those looking for peace and quiet. The area is close to lots of beautiful areas to visit and the owners are so kind and accomodating, I would definitely recommend to those looking for some peaceful relaxation.
I can’t say enough about this place! Not only was the house gorgeous and comfortable, but the grounds and gardens were stunning. The views! We felt like we’d landed in another, better universe. Janet was so kind and helped us solve an access problem in the most generous way possible. If I could live there forever, I would.
A wonderful cottage with views of the nearby fields. The hosts Janet and Mike were so lovely greeting us on arrival, and making us feel very welcomed.
We only wished we could have stayed longer.
If we could give this more than 5 stars we would. The hosts met us with welcoming smiles and showed us all we needed to know about the cottage. The kitchen and bathrooms were modern and extremely functional and did not detract from the quaintness and character of the rest of the cottage. We enjoyed sitting in front of the wood burner in the living room on our return from excursions in the evening and early mornings before heading out for the day. it was so peaceful and quiet there, nestled into the hillside and a great place to relax from the day-to-day hustle of modern life. Even the sheep in the field above and Millie, their dog, seemed pleased to welcome new company. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Just back from a wonderful weekend at Forest Cottage.
Lovely quaint cottage in a secluded spot.
We stay all over UK in these type of properties and this one is far superior, in our opinion, than many others we have stayed.
The Hosts are friendly and accommodating, nothing too much trouble and not intrusive (live in detached house next door but not so close).
It was so, so lovely listening to the many varieties of bird in the daytime and the Bats and Owls at night (so relaxing).
For us main positive over other hosts is that literally EVERYTHING is in the house (towels, bedding, pots, pans, plates, condiments, tea bags, kitchen roll, toilet rolls, etc, etc but most important unlimited supply of Logs for the woodburner). which is very important in a cold winter weekend.
Most Holiday homes with woodburner only have , maybe 1 basket of logs ? - so you have to bring your own.
Literally, just bring food and drink and away you go. GREAT.
The two tips I would suggest are - the 18th century staircase could be challenging for those with limited mobility and although the hosts directions to arrive at the secluded cottage are spot on, I would recommend taking a look at google street map before you set off for your stay.
Overall, I cannot recommend this accommodation enough.
We were warmly greeted by Janet who gave us a detailed run through of the cottage. They'd lit the fire before we got there. Very clean & tidy, very cosy too even in January. The staircase would be difficult for children or people with mobility issues. The main bedroom is really cozy, the bed was super comfy & the whole place just has a tranquil peaceful feel to it. The scenery is stunning & you feel like there's no one else for miles, but you're just 15 minutes from Usk. They've provided everything you need & are on hand should you need assistance. Delightful, exceptional 18th cottage that totally lives up to it's billing. Janet was lovely too, she came by on the morning we were leaving, told us not to rush off if we didn't need to, what a fabulous host. I would highly recommend stopping here if you get the chance.
We had a fantastic couple of days here, the cottage was really cosy and the wood burning stove was great.
Nestled in the edge of a woodland with views across the hills the cottage has the feeling of getting away from it all despite being at the end of the owners garden and only 10minute drive to usk.
Exceptional at all levels, very clean and well furnished, the location, views and garden beauty are beyond words. I highly recommend with a note about the fact that it is a bit difficult to manage the little (beautiful) stone stairs to the upper floor where the bedrooms are located if you are not very mobile; I enjoyed all details and the wood stove. Cannot get much better than this.
The very epitome of a rural idyll with fantastic accommodation and even more fantastic hosts and animals. We’re aiming to go back, when it’s just the two of us.
Fantastic views of the valley from either of the sitting areas. Friendly hosts. As others have said, stairs are very narrow at the top, but to be expected for the type of place it is. Perfect place for a very relaxing couple days. Could not recommend more.
The outside space of this property is breathtaking! Three separate sitting areas with fabulous views and alfresco dining.
The cottage has everything you need and it was great to have a well equipped kitchen.
The woodburner was fab… we stayed in June but still needed the fire as the lovely old cottage has very thick walls.
Super comfy beds .. just be aware of the very steep slate stairs… not for the fainthearted!
Lovely friendly but non intrusive hosts - highly recommend this property for a relaxing break away.
The stone cottage is very private and located in a peaceful garden filled with flowers and birds. There are two areas outside that we spend most days enjoying the view, drinking tea, having meals or just listening to the birds. The inside is cozy with a fire to provide warmth when it cools off in the evening. Kitchen and washroom facilities are modern and clean.
Janet was a wonderful host and gave us a lot of interesting info and advice on the area. Our stay here was a highlight of our visit to Wales.
One note is that the stairs to the bedrooms are steep and would be a challenge to anyone with reduced mobility.
Lovely location, exceedingly quiet except for the birds and other animals, caring and generous hosts. We enjoy the countryside and got it here, with 8 hens, 4 Guinea fowl and 2 dogs.
This was such a beautiful piece of property and such a charming cabin. Our house were wonderful. If we ever return to Wales we would definitely stay here again. I highly recommend anyone who wants a special experience stay here. Thank you so much Janet and Mike for our wonderful time.
The property was incredible and the views from the front door were breathtaking. Lots of walks in the local area, full of ancient woodlands, hill and vale as well as a hidden castle!
We were able to nip across to Cardiff for a shopping day in less than 45 minutes. Our walk around the reservoir was an adventure and cosying up beside the log burner was a great end to every day.
The hosts were really welcoming and the facilities were superb, we lacked for nothing in what was a quiet and restful escape to some truly beautiful surroundings.
We loved it here. Setting is really achingly gorgeous. The cottage is lovely - as are it’s hosts. Log fire lit when we arrived. Cosy nights playing games and chatting to each other. Visits out to Usk, Tintern, Chepstow and Llandegfedd Lake for a canoe trip. Am home now, feeling restored. Will definitely come back. Thank you!
