Pass the Keys | The Square Cosy Cottage on the Town Square with Optional Hot Tub
About this space
A fab location in the very heart of Church Stretton. The cottage is at the back of a pretty courtyard off the market square right in the center of the town. We've recently renovated both the cottage and garden and added a private hot tub area just for guests!
We have some lovely pubs, restaurants, cafes and individual boutiques all within walking distance. Walks on the Long Mynd, the Shropshire hills and in Rectory Wood are easily accessible by foot or car and are highly recommended.
The space
Cozy, comfortable and calm. It was loved by us when it was our holiday home.
You enter into the open-plan lounge, dining, and kitchen area. The sofa in the lounge will open up into a double sofa bed that will sleep two, although we would recommend children, rather than adults.
At the back of the cottage is a small double bedroom with a patio door leading to the hot tub.
We have a compact shower room and toilet, also located on the ground floor.
The stairs are reasonably narrow and lead straight into a twin room. There is no door to this room but we do have a screen for privacy. At the top of the stairs on either side are areas perfect for little people to make their dens.
Outside the house is a decked area and in the warmer months, has seating area to enjoy an early morning coffee or evening drink. We have a hot tub behind the rear gate which you are welcome to use.
Guest access
We occupy the main house but you will have the whole building and decking area to yourself including the hot tub and the small laundry building which you can use to wash and hang clothes in.
OPTIONAL HOT TUB NOTES:
The hot tub is optional and 'by request' at just £70 per stay.
Please let us know through messaging and we will send a payment request.
**You are welcome to enjoy the hot tub at your own risk and between the hours of 8 am and 11.00 pm only, due to consideration for neighbours**
We have no parking at the cottage but you can park on the square to unload.
All amenities are within a 5 to 10-minute walk of the property.
A key safe is in place near the front door for self-check-in.
Other things to note
Please let us know if you are planning to use the sofa bed, so that we can ensure there is linen available for it. Although we do recommend this is for children, rather than adults, as the property will seem confined with 5 adults.
Please note that the property offers a maximum of 5 guests with a sofa and a charge would be £30 per person for linen and use.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage at a cost of £20 per dog and we ask that you clean up any doggy mess. Please let us know if you are planning to bring your furry friends.
Our property is professionally cleaned and is set up to be remote access, ensuring there is no direct contact with anyone needed. The linen and towels are removed from the property after each stay and replaced with freshly laundered supplies. We also provide single-use and individual items such as shampoo, conditioners and so
Supermarkets
We have a Co-op which is a 5-minute walk. Family Shopper (which stays open for longer) is also only a couple of minutes' walk. We do have Tesco, Sainsburys and Morrisons in Shrewsbury that will do home delivery if needed.
Local Restaurants
On The Square, we have the Sawadde Thai Restaurant, which is one of our favorites, and across the road Housmans Pan Asia. Jaipur lounge has fine Indian dining. A small walk is Catch, which is a lovely Bistro Bar. Pubs we have The Bucks Head, which has bags of character and an extensive menu, from greek to children, to the over 60s. The Kings Head, which dates back to 1593, a real traditional country pub, featuring a log burner and restaurant which caters to all tastes and provides an outstanding selection of home-cooked food. The Old Copper Malt House, one of the oldest pubs in the area dating back to 1587 and won Shropshire pub of the season in 2018, offering real ales and a light and spacious restaurant, as well as intimate nooks and crannies for a more romantic evening. There is also a Pool table and dartboard. All are dog-friendly. If you would like to stop and have a tea or coffee, we like Heather & Batch Coffee House, Berrys or Hollybush cafe. We even have a Costa Coffee located in the petrol station. If you are looking for a fast-food take-out, Church Stretton Fish bar is across the road from us. There is a Kebab & Burgerhouse on Sandford avenue. Van Doesburgs or Mr Bun the Baker for sandwiches and cake.
Local Attractions
Church Stretton is a historic Market Town, with a small farmers market on a Thursday, and is situated in the heart of the beautiful South Shropshire Hills, which has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We have plenty of walks. Cardingmill Valley, Caer Caradoc, Ragleth and The Lawley are just a few within Church Stretton. However, I would recommend visiting www.shropshirehillsaonb.co.uk or visiting The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. If you go to www.getoutside.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/ and put in Church Stretton, you can download the APP and there are many walks from Church Stretton. If you like Antiques, then the Stretton Antiques Market is the place for you. Although be careful, you could lose a whole day in there. www.visitchurchstretton.co.uk is a good website with lots of information about the town. Ludlow, is 15 minutes drive and has the stunning Ludlow Castle, which dates back to 1066. They also have the famous Ludlow Market, which is on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday selling lots of yummy local produce. On a Sunday it turns into a flea market. If you like beer, the Ludlow Brewing company is worth a visit. We also have Ludlow Racecourse, which is a great day out. And north of Church Stretton is the historical Town of Shrewsbury with its unique back streets with quaint cafes and shopping boutiques. A walk past the train station, castle and old library building is worth seeing, if you like historic buildings. If you follow the river, you will come to the Quarry Park, which is a beautiful 29-acre parkland providing the perfect place to relax, enjoy walks, picnic or play a game of ball with the family. At the heart of the Quarry lies the Dingle, a floral masterpiece cultivated by world-renowned gardener Percy Thrower, who served as Parks Superintendent for 28 years. It's a delightful sunken garden landscaped with alpine borders, shrubbery and charming water features tis worth a wander around.
