The dramatic gorges and caves of the stunning Haut-Languedoc national park are close inland. To the east the Camargue, the great nature reserve that's the home of white horses and black bulls. Nearby is the nature reserve of Bagnas and the beautiful lake ‘Etang de Thau’ with its oysters and mussels beds and rose-pink flamingos, also a wonderful place for boating and kite/wind-surfing.

Driving from Clermont Ferrand arrive to Agde via the spectacular viaduct over the Tarn gorge - Norman Foster's splendid bridge at Millau - It carries the A75 autoroute high into the clouds... and Agde is then only an hour away to the south.

Charmantes Ferienhaus

Ancient but modernised house in old agde

The house was full of character, clean and in a beautiful ancient part of town. It had everything we needed. Walls of 2 ft thick volcanic rock make the layout interesting in some parts. No problems for us. The owners were helpful, friendly and immediately got for us the one small item we asked about.

Great location - needs fluffling

Location was wonderful. Town was perfect for our needs. Host informative about town and history and had done an interesting and detailed renovation that kept to the character of the house. A lot of history there! House itself could use a bit of fluffing. House used to be a ticking mattress factory and we thought that one of the mattresses was original (kidding) but it and pillows were substandard. Minor things but not enough sheets to make up the beds and one towel per person. Photos included photos of other properties so expectations were a little askew. Once we got over these items, we loved our stay. Agde is not a tourist town so it was quiet but interesting and offered enough cafes and restaurants for us + it was close to a lot of other attractions.

Interesting historical house

Overall we enjoyed our stay. This ancient house fit our group of five very well. The weather was extremely hot, but the place did not get too warm inside. Everything we needed for the week was provided, The design was a bit odd: to reach the kitchen, one had to climb stairs and then descend stairs.

Sehr gut.

Charming house with great location

Located in the oldest parts of Agde this charming house is a perfect base to explore the Languedoc region. Old Agde feels rather genuine with relatively few foreigners and has an ample selection of restaurants within walking distance. Several good beaches are within 5km. The owners are very nice and communicative.

A dream in a beautifull place

Encore Merci a Nira

A beautiful house!!!!!

Spent a lovely week in Agde, it was the laziest time, just eating, drinking and enjoying the sunshine. This beautiful house with its tasteful furnishings, wood beams and thick walls completely exceeded expectations - i hadn't imagined it would be so roomy and that the back courtyard would feel so private as it did. A wonderful surprise and a really restful place for us all to spread out and enjoy the week. Agde is a great place for a quiet holiday - the beaches are a short bus ride away, leaving from the promenade which is five minutes walk from the house. There are bakeries, supermarkets again within minutes of the house. Cafes and bars all around. Would recommend to anyone. The only drawback was there was no wifi but i got round this (as we were travelling with our teenage daughter) by using a portable wifi hub which can be hired from a company in Lyon called Hippocket. When the week was over, I simply posted it back to them in the envelope they had provided. Would definitely stay there again!! Thanks for everything, Allan and Nira

In the centre of old Agde

I first fell in love with Agde more than twenty-five years ago and this was the first house I stayed in when I returned six years ago; this September was our third visit. I knew we had come to the right place the moment we stepped through the door the first time and it still makes the same impression. Immaculately clean, beautifully furnished and with enough space for everyone to find their own spaces. It has been lovingly renovated by Allan and Nira with real respect for its history. It is next door to Maison d'Estella in the middle of the old town, ideally positioned round the corner from local restaurants and markets, a short walk to the restaurants on the river and within easy walking distance from the train station. Cycling down the cycle path along the river brings you to the lovely beaches of Grau d'Agde.

A unique house in the centre of old Agde

My daughter and I spent a month in Agde for work/study. We rented this house over that period - September/October. The position was excellent, in the centre of old Agde, very near the train station and the wonderful weekly market. The house was lovingly restored, with a very pretty courtyard and sunny rooftop terrace with a great view. Though it was little dark in the lower rooms there was plenty of light in the upper rooms. The house had a large kitchen which opened to the courtyard, a great place for tea/coffee or a drink if you didn't wish to climb to the roof terrace. Alan and Nira were very helpful and gave any assistance we required whilst we were there. The only thing we missed was internet connection as we were working, but the Library is very close and very efficient.

Lovely stay

Lovely, rustic house in the centre of Agde. Very clean and well-appointed. Very good kitchen facilities. Attractive patio/garden at the back. The owners were very kind and helpful in all aspects, pointing out places to visit and providing handy tips. I would recommend this property.

Two unforgettable houses

I first fell inlove with Agde more than twenty five years ago and felt the pull back first in 2009 when we stayed in the Detached Stone House next door to Maison d'Estella. I knew we had come to right place the moment through the door. Immaculately clean, beautifully furnished with French antiques and enough room for our disparate party to find their own spaces. I the following years we split our stay between the Detached House and, as our party expanded, Maison d'Estella. Maison d'Estella is truly unique; a rambling mediaeval grand house. Immense open kitchen/dining room, bedrooms overlooking inner and outer courtyards and a roof terrace with spectacular views. The location of the houses is ideal for the Promenade, local restaurants and markets. Both have safe storage for bicycles (which can be hired locally) - to potter down the cycle path to the beautiful beaches of Grau d'Agde. The train station is within easy walking distance and various members of our party have made outings to Carcassone, Narbonne, Perpignan and Avignon. Allan and Nira have done a remarkable job of renovating and furnishing these special houses. They are attentive and helpful owners who have a passionate interest in the history and culture of their town.

Beautiful house in Agde

This have been unforgettable holidays in this beautiful house in Agde. The flat is very nice and located directly in the historical medieval center of the city. The house is nicely renovated and has a lot of good aura and atmosphere as you can see on the photos. The environment of Agde offers the Mediterranean sea with beautiful beaches and in the north of the city mountains as well; a lot of historical places and all kind of entertainment for families with safari park, huge caves in the mountains in the north, carcassone is near as well as La Couvertoirade which is strongly recommended to be visited. The beaches are very nice and the environment of Agde is very beautiful. A lot of sightseeing is possible as well as recreation. We visited a lot of places - caves, the dino-park, a monastery, the mountains, the beaches , the cities nearby, the safari park, we explored the historical places in this very old town and also went for shopping.

Fantastic Stay!!!!

We (2 couples) had a really good time whilst staying in Agde and without a car. Arrived at Beziers airport and caught the local school bus from the airport to Agde (so easy). The house is set in the very old part of Agde and so authentic. We did loads of things. The bike hire info which was left was really good and cheap. We had a fantastic day in Avingnon (by train), horse riding, walking and bike riding. We had lovely meals out in restaurants along the river (actually floating), We found a restaurant out in the countryside at the end of a days cycling (remember to take torches with you) this was shaby looking but was lovely also loads of restaurants in the town to choose from. The beach is within walking distance along the river bank. This location is fantastic!!! We have wonderful memories of this holiday and will hopefully stay again.

An Experience You Will Remember

If you love history and architecture, this is simply the best place to stay in Agde. The 17th century apartment is clean, well-maintained, and an adventure in itself. It's great location is in the heart of Old Agde and Cap d'Agde on the Mediterranean is a 1 Euro bus ride away. The owner, Allen, was always available, extremely helpful, and pleasantly informative. The Plazza Cafe is a few steps away from the front door for morning coffee, the Tourist Office just a couple of minutes down rue J. Roger, and the restaurant at La Galiote Hotel is wonderful for an evening meal on the Herault. The remarkable library just off the square Pl. du Jeu de Balonand is well worth visiting. The weekly flea and food markets are just steps away. A must see is the Musee de l'Ephebe in Cap d'Agde. Go to the end of the bus line at vieux Cap and have a seafood lunch or dinner at the La Bonne Mere on the hill overlooking the sea.
