We had a great time at this house. It was a very convenient location and spacious for our extended family. We are already thinking about returning next summer. Really enjoyed the big yard, the wrap around porch and the grill and large picnic table. Summer fun in RI, what could be better?
We celebrated or 45th anniversary with our three adult children and their kiddos. The Wheelhouse turned out to be a perfect spot for our week's vacation together! Plenty of room for the five grandkids and lots of activity options for everyone. House was clean, comfortable and has a great charm! We loved the beaches, bike trailaccessible)
We had a great week at the Wheelhouse! This property is in the best location making it convenient to get to beaches, restaurants, stores etc. House was clean, beds were comfortable and the yard was a major bonus too. Thanks for a memorable week!
Everything was spot on. Location was a 15 minute max walk to beach. Bedrooms and interior space on point. Full Yard. Porch with breeze and rockers. All needed kitchen items and a nice grill outside. We cooked and grilled except for one night out. Property well maintained and no issues during our week. We brought a wagon and beach umbrella, recommend them. A Great Place! Thanks to our hosts!! A vacation to remember :)
We had an amazing week here. We had 4 children in our group so the playground across the street and the large porch and yard were a perfect place to play. The house was large enough to accommodate a large group. We checked out several of the local beaches but enjoyed Scarborough the best. We had a few issues with the house which were addressed immediately with the owners. Communication was very quick and the problems were resolved. We will be back!
Our entire family truly enjoyed our stay at the Wheelhouse.
The property was immaculate inside and out. The kitchen was fully equipped and well organized. Furniture and beds were comfortable. Plenty of room inside and out on the porch / deck. We all had plenty of space to spread out. Very nice area for walking / biking and spending time at the nearby beach. Everything was perfect!
Thank you Josh & Dave for a very enjoyable week at the Wheelhouse!.
Very well stocked comfortable house close to the beach
We stayed for 10 days for with our family, including grandchildren. We went to the town beach that is a 15 minute. The house is very comfortable and nicely stocked. The large backyard was great for the kids to play. The deck was nice to spend the afternoon.
Rooms are nice, and the house is nicely updated.
Home is very large for multiple people staying, clean, and well kept. Air conditioning, outdoor eating area and grill, beach mats, and coolers were a major plus in the summer. The property manager was also quick to respond to questions and made check in and check out very easy. Highly recommend!
This house was a true gem. Very clean, well stocked kitchen (ample plates, glasses, pots & pans and spices). The owners have done an outstanding job updating an historical house. The location was very convenient to get to the beach and the beach passes were an added plus. Narragansett Beach is spectacular. We really loved the outdoor space. The porch and rocking chairs were comfy and a great place to read. The deck was perfect for our family meals. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend this house!
Annual family vacation...
Property was fantastic and perfect for our group.
Would highly recommend and if timing works out we hope to return next year.
We had a lovely stay with my extended family celebrating my sone’s high school graduation and our upcoming wedding anniversary. The house was very clean and the kitchen was better appointed than most places we’ve stayed at ( the knives were actually sharp!) would definitely stay there again.
This house exceeded all of our expectations! My entire family was pleased with the immaculate condition of the home and grounds. We loved the experience of staying in a historic home with all the modern amenities including a new and fully equipped kitchen, dining space for our entire family, comfortable beds, and plenty of beach equipment. The unexpected surprise was how much everyone loved the awesome outdoor shower. We also enjoyed the proximity to the beaches, shops, and restaurants. It felt as though the hosts put a lot of care and attention to detail in maintaining the property. Highly recommend!
Easily slept extended family of 6 adults, 2 kids. Beds are great (wish there was 1 king tho), A/C great, beautiful deck & outdoor shower great, lots of room on main floor. Kitchen well stocked, linens & various paper goods & supplies included. Walking to Narragansett Beach possible tho hard to do with all the kids & beach paraphernalia, but easy to do drop-off & have one person find parking or walk from house. Plus 6 beach passes to our favorite beach! We had a fabulous family vacation!
Convenient to everything. So immaculate! Trunk of toys for children which kept them occupied when moving our belongings into the house. One recommendation is that one side of the house is very bright in the morning so those visitors sleeping on that side woke earlier than they would have liked. Perhaps addition of curtains which could be drawn might be a option. Otherwise, absolutely perfect and definitely a return destination. Thank you for sharing your home.
We had never been to Narragansett before and we all agreed we would go back again. The Wheelhouse is a wonderful place for a three-generation vacation. Large yard for kids to play in and a great deck for parents. The area beaches were great. We had some kids taking surfing lessons. We would go back again.
We had a terrific stay in Narraganset, and the house is exactly as advertised - clean, comfortable, and very well equipped. The furniture was comfortable with ample room for our 2 families to have dinners and hang out together. I loved that everything was taken care of, even plenty of paper goods for the full week with some to spare. Nice easy walk to downtown and the beach.
We walked into a house so immaculately clean that if I could give it ten stars for that, I would. The place was sparkling. All the beds were very comfortable-- and we used every single one of them! It is nice, also, that the four bedrooms on the second floor are practically identical so that no one gets a "master" bedroom bigger than everyone else's.
The yard is beautiful, and beautifully landscaped. There is plenty of parking-- even when, at peak family time, we had six cars to deal with. The grill and outdoor table are great-- we grilled only once (halibut) but ate outside almost every night. And we made the most of the wraparound porch, as well!
The first floor seemed smallish at first, as if we might be crashing into each other, but as it turned out, there was more than enough space for everyone to stretch out, work at the dining room table, read, cook, etc. And the kitchen!! We may be unusual in this respect, but we rarely eat out on vacations like this-- we have plenty of talented cooks in the extended family, and we LOVED LOVED LOVED everything provided for cooking, especially the chef-quality sharp knives ... something we almost never can get in a rental house, so that some of us have taken to bringing our own knives just in case. Not necessary here! The kitchen has something like two dozen razor-sharp knives that made food prep easy and quick.
The location was a bit far from the beach for the youngest among us, but we did plenty of dropoffs by car, and on every day but Fri and Sat the West parking lot was open. The only thing that gave everyone pause was the dauntingly narrow entrance to the driveway-- it is a challenge! None of us own an SUV, but still, there isn't a lot of wiggle room. But this does not count as a complaint-- we loved the place and everyone had a marvelous time.
Was a perfect property for our large group. We had everything we needed. Some of my fondest moments will be having all of my chick's in the same place at the same time. Thanks for everthing.
We've stayed at Josh's home the last several years and thoroughly enjoy the architectural beauty of the home and its proximity to southern RI golf courses. The new renovations on the home are fantastic!
In Narrangansett for a wedding, this lovely and spacious house was perfect to host siblings and spouses, along with 3 college age girls (the top floor made a great dorm!). The owners were very responsive and generous to us.
The house is very clean, well-equipped and well-maintained. It offers lots of outdoor seating, great for entertaining in this pandemic time. Quite near to the beaches! Lots of parking and big lawn too. We highly recommend!!

About the host
Hosted by Josh Frederickson and David McCue
The home is owned by Dave, Josh, and their wives Val and Molly. Since 2002, they have been carefully restoring the home and learning a great deal about this historic property along the way. The Wheelhouse was once owned by the railway developer who connected the New York train system to Narragansett by way of trolley car. In the late 1800's horses were still used to pull trolleys. We've discovered several original horseshoes on the property to prove it! If you appreciate the unique character of Victorian-era homes, you'll understand why we fell in love with The Wheelhouse.
Why they chose this property
We love spending as much time as we can at The Wheelhouse ourselves, so we make sure the house has all the amenities of home for our guests. This house is perfect for a week near the beach during the summer or offseason where you can put your feet up and lose track of time for awhile. With so many great options nearby for dining, the most difficult decisions you'll be making all week are which restaurants to try. If you simply can't decide, we make sure you have all the tools you need to host your own lobster boil, or cook up something fresh and delicious at home.
What makes this property unique
One of our favorites times of day is just as dusk arrives. After a day at the beach, with the sky beginning to turn, we make a point to gather on the deck and porch every evening to enjoy the last hour or so of daylight together. With the cheers of a little league game not far off, it's easy to appreciate the simplicity of a day at the beach, enjoying each other's company, wishing the sun would stay up just a little longer.
