Very Rural

The villa was excellent as well as the host, David. I have to say the views were magnificent! Great stay but was terrified of the spiral roads and heights was an issue for me. I wish i had know earlier as to how remote we were, i probably would not have picked the villa for just 1 week as it was a bit of a long trek from airport. But hindsight is a wonderful thing. I would definitely pick another one of David's villa in future. Thank you for your generous hospitality.

The property was just as described. The location was ideal for us but some may find it a little remote. We personally loved the rural location. So peaceful. Fabulous pool and outside space and nice to have BBQ to use. Well equipped kitchen, great family space and bedrooms.

Perfect place to relax

Villa Carolina was the perfect place to unwind. It is so peaceful, nestled on the side of the hill that you can just let the world pass you by. Just what we needed! The villa is well equipped and we definitely needed the air con and the pool to break the heat. We did a few trips out to stock up and explore the area: Comares is lovely and only 10min away and has some good restaurants; the coast is about 30min away as are the larger hypermarkets in Velez Malaga. Great base, great place.

Amazing holiday place.

We were absolutely enjoying our stay at Villa Carolina, everything as it was described. Amazing views, relaxing atmosphere, already planing to go there next year. Just one thing, singn at the turn to villa could be bigger and more visible but rest was absolutely great. Thanks to the owner and the managers.

Stunning

We had the most peaceful and relaxing stay at Villa Carolina even with a 4 month old!! The views did not disappoint and the accomodation was spotless. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the local farmer walk his herd of goats across the hills in the evening whilst enjoying a few cold beverages on the balcony! Carl was very informative and it was reassuring to know that he was reachable should we have required him for anything given the remote location. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is the place for you. Next time we intend to bring family members to make the most of the space available.

The villa was clean and well maintained and the swimming pool also! This is the perfect place to go for a private, relaxing holiday enjoying the beautiful scenery. Already looking forward to booking another trip soon!

Quiet setting with beautiful view

The villa is set in a really beautiful location. Perfect if you love a beautiful view, peace and quiet and clear skies at night for star gazing. The villa itself was a little old fashioned and in need of some TLC, the sofa has definitely seen better days. The downstairs windows were a concern as they didn’t lock. Saying all that, it’s pretty remote so we never felt unsafe, the location was really quite beautiful and the view is breathtaking,. The villa was very clean, it was well equipped and the added bonus of WiFi was a huge bonus for the kids. We really did enjoy our stay, it was possibly a little more remote than we expected but it was perfect for us and if you have a car then it’s not an issue. The winding roads made it an adventure and Comares town itself is possibly one of the most beautiful Spanish towns we’ve visited. Having the pool was a blessing, it was cleaned and well looked after by Trevor, any issues were dealt with straight away. Carl the manager was very welcoming and easy to contact, he addressed any issues and gave us lots of info about the area, restaurants etc which was really useful. If you want uninterrupted peace and a place to switch off, this is the perfect place to stay, we managed it even with 3 kids in tow.

Just got home, fab time

Just got back from Villa Carolina a couple days ago from a family holiday. The villa had everything we needed and the pool was nice with an amazing view, we travel all around Costa Del Sol and are used to the mountains so we love it, if you want peace and quiet and to recharge the batteries we highly recommend it. Carl was also on location and very friendly and helpful.

Second Time Relaxing In Peace And Tranquility

This was our second stay at Villa Carolina and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. We had a slight problem with the pool when we arrived due to them having bad storms prior to our arrival but after contacting Carl (the property manager) he sent Trevor (the pool guy) to us straight away and he sorted it out .Although Villa Carolina is starting to look a bit tired since our previous visit this did not affect our holiday and it is still brilliant value for money. Carl and Maria were always at the end of the phone if needed otherwise we were left to enjoy our holiday without any disturbance. We still recommend Villa Carolina as a peaceful and relaxing holiday villa in a stunning location with some of the best views around. Thank you to Mark (the owner) Carl and Maria (the Managers) and Trev (the pool guy) for yet another fantastic holiday.

Wow !!!!!! Stunning Location

From the moment we arrived at Villa Carolina we fell in love. We found the villa to be fantastic value for money and the location and views are truly out of this world. The villa was clean, very comfortable and very well equipped with everything you need, the provisions left for us in the fridge were a welcoming touch. yes the roads up to the villa are a bit challenging first time around but these are unfamiliar country roads and by the second day they were fine. The purpose of our holiday, was to de-stress and relax, and boy did this villa deliver!!! We used the welcoming pool every day. One of the highlights of our holiday, apart from the villa and the views was the local goat herder passing the villa along the lane who always acknowledged us with a "Hola" ! Communication and directions via a supermarket from Mark were spot on. Comares is such a beautiful hilltop village, bar and a well stocked shop was ideal and again stunning views. Villa Carolina is perfectly located for the sun from morning until night although there welcoming shaded areas to should you want them. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and can't wait to return. ( Thank you Mark )

Clean,lots of light and homely

We absolutely enjoyed our stay.Carl and his wife made sure we had a splendid time.the private pool was the centre of it all...with the hot weather we spent most time in the pool.the view is magnificent, the cool breeze the the evening, the birds and sound of the crickets, the beds were Soo comfortable.i also enjoyed cooking in the kitchen as it has everything u need. The drive to and out of the villa is a bit challenging but after a couple drives you get used to it. Over all we loved it so much we will be coming back.

We enjoyed it, but ...

We came expecting a honeymoon rather than the initiation ceremony we received. That drive! I am comfortable driving a 7.5 tonne truck, but not this! Many times I wanted to shout "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here" but alas I am not a celebrity. Let me tell you it doesn't get any easier as the week goes on. Going out after dark was never an option. Then there was the power cut, the ant invasion - by land and air. We even put our croissants in the microwave for safekeeping only to open it the following morning to watch the pastries march out on their own. The villa is a little tired with light bulbs out, exposed wires and a severely limited choice of TV channels ... But, as we were told "it is on the market and the owner doesn't want to spend any money on it". The pool cleaner, when he paid his much awaited visit, was delighted to show us the "actual tarantula" he had scooped out of the pool. Plus points - Malaga is lovely with lots to see. The caves at Nerja are simply stunning. Eating out was generally inexpensive and the food delicious.

Just perfect

We really enjoyed our stay at the villa, well equipped and butter, jam, beers, eggs, milk etc in fridge ready for us to arrive. This views are stunning, comares is a beautiful village set in the mountains. Lovely eateries, we ate at table mountain and el Molina both very different but both very welcoming. Locals here are all very friendly. The beach resort torre del mar is a short journey down the mountain we really liked it there. The villa is situated in a fantastic position and made our many trips out easy, was always lovely to return to the peace and quiet of these wonderful mountains. In our party there was 5 adults 1 child ages 9, 17,42,50,64 and 74 and this villa was perfect for all ages. Can't wait to return.

Fabulous views

Villacarolina is in a fantastic location with wonderful views across the valley. Very quiet and peaceful just listening to the birds and watching the goats on the hillside. The house itself is roomy and we'll equipped and the pool was superb. We were met at the house by Carl who was very friendly and helpful and even had a cold beer for us on arrival along with some other basic groceries. All in all we had a great holiday at Villacarolina. Comares is a super little village with views to die for. There are some excellent eating places roundabout too. Certainly would recommend it and would love to return sometime.

Delightful villa in a perfect rural location

We actually enjoyed navigating the twisting country roads and it was well worth the effort as Villa Carolina was all we hoped for when we arrived - private, peaceful, and in a very picturesque rural setting. We found it immaculately clean, modern, comfortable and well equipped. And the pool was a real treat in the unexpected heatwave with temperatures in the high 30s! A perfect setting in which to sip a glass of Rioja on the terrace while listening to the birds and watching the goats wander the hillside. There are a number of bars and restaurants in and en route to the nearby interesting hilltop village of Comares, which has stunning views and also offers a small but well stocked Coviran supermarket, plus pharmacy, ATM, etc. and provided all we needed to top up the supplies we had bought en route at the huge Eroski supermarket in Velez-Malaga. We can't praise Carl and Maria highly enough. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were extremely kind and helpful. We have been to the area many times and this was one of the nicest villas we have stayed in and is excellent value too. Our 2½ week stay was not long enough! We hope to return next year and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a rural haven in the real Spain

As good as ever

Returning to a place allows you to see how it is being maintained. Wear and tear lead to some places looking tired and a bit dilapidated. Not so here. For our third stay in Villa Carolina we noticed pleasing signs of significant money spent on upkeep. The awnings had been replaced; there’s a very good quality new pan in the kitchen; there were new chairs outside and a couple of new parasols. Spotlessly clean and fresh as ever (thanks Val), pool cleaned while we were there. Well looked after by Carl and Maria. What more can we say? Refer to two previous reviews, and highly recommended as before.

Beautiful villa with stunning views

My husband, 16 year old daughter and I had a wonderful relaxing break in Villa Carolina. We were met by Carl after a lovely drive up the mountain. He showed us around and had left us a welcome pack of bread, beer, water, milk and other essentials. The villa was lovely and clean with absolutely stunning views. We were there purely to relax so didn't do any day trips anywhere. We did go to the village a few times and it was gorgeous with even more stunning views. You can follow the ceramic footprints around the town so you get to see most of it without getting too lost! Watch out for the lovely Maria who entices you into her house and plies you with fruit and cheese so you feel obliged to buy some, she gives you a lot though and it's gorgeous. We ate at Table Mountain and definitely recommend it to anyone in the area, beautiful food and friendly staff. We loved sitting outside and just taking in the surroundings, very quiet and felt very remote. We listened to the goats and we could just see the goat herd moving them around the hillside. Perfect place to unwind. Mark and Carl were great to deal with and we would recommend the villa to anyone who wants to relax or who wants to use it as a base to explore the area.

Great stay once again

We stayed for a week at very short notice when previously booked accommodation proved unsatisfactory and Villa Carolina was fortunately free for just that week. We came back because we had enjoyed our stay so much a year ago (see review), and once again had an excellent stay. We were very well looked after again by Maria, and appreciated it being made ready at virtually no notice. Clean, fresh and well-appointed as before, with the pool open (and still warm) well into October. I am very happy to wholeheartedly recommend Villa Carolina once again.

We had a fabulous week in this villa. We wanted remote and quiet, and that is what we got. The villa was very well equipped, and we everything we wanted, perhaps a little more UK TV would have been nice, but certainly did not spoil our stay. We were greeted by Carl who told us all we needed to know. The views from nearly every window on the villa were quite spectacular. We would come again and recommend to others.

Lovely Sunny Terrace, great hideaway

My partner and I stayed at Villa Carolina with four friends at the end of April. We enjoyed beautiful weather and lovely surroundings. The villa is plenty big enough for six people and the kitchen is very well equipped. The pool isn't huge, but big enough for a quick dip or an hour on the lilo - which we certainly needed in the heated. The bed in the master bedrooms is very comfy, and the views are beautiful. We love staying the area, and have visited a few times. There is a stunning new local restaurant called Table Mountain, well worth a visit. We are returning to Comares in a few weeks time, we now call 'our spiritual home'. Carl who manages the property is so helpful and friendly. The accommodation is very clean and tidy and represents great value for money. Thank you for a lovely five night break...wish we had stayed longer.

Excellent accommodation in beautiful surroundings.

We stayed for just over a fortnight, arriving in the small hours guided by clear directions from Carl, who looked after us very well. The villa is about a 9-minute drive from the nearest village (Comares), down a twisty but (mostly) well surfaced lane. First impression on entering: Villa Carolina was fresh, clean and warm. First impressions were confirmed throughout. It's airy, light, modern, nicely furnished and well-equipped. The beds are comfortable and the sofa beds in the living room are well above average and good both to sit and lie on. The kitchen is well laid out and there's plenty of cutlery/crockery/pans etc, although if you want to cook rather than eat out, then best bring your own cooking knife. The whole place was spotless. The pool was also well-maintained (Trevor cleans it once a week through the season), and it's kept filled throughout the year, which is a nice touch. It was fine to swim in at the start, though was chilling down a bit by mid-month. I think you'd need to be a North Sea swimmer to go in it by November. The barbeque is top quality and well worth using. On the terrace you are not overlooked at all. Neighbouring properties are at least hundreds of yards away. You face south, and get the sun from sunrise to early evening. There are awnings which give good shade through the day. The area is traditionally cultivated, and the main sounds are dogs barking now and then, goat bells, sardinian warblers and little owls. There's a small but quite well stocked mini-supermarket (Coviran) in the village, a bigger one in Benamargosa 11 km away and a massive Eroski hypermarket on the edge of Velez Malaga at about 35-40 minutes. There are some great places to explore via some scenic (and sometimes hairy) drives. The road to Colmenar is great fun. El Torcal and Antequera are about an hour away. In summary, we really liked Villa Carolina. We've stayed in a lot of places over the years, and this is up with the best of them for the price range. Excellent value, and we would wholeheartedly recommend it.
