About this property

Camp on Granite Lake

Rejuvenated but rustic camp. Relaxing open living space has large windowed porch to sit and enjoy the lake views. Open concept living area is roomy and cozy. Modernized kitchen with new stove and refrigerator makes meal prep and clean up a breeze.
There are kayaks (4), paddle boards (2) and a canoe to explore the clean, clear water and catch sight of the loons. Life vests avail from age 1 and older. (There's even a doggie vest for small to med dogs). Water toys, beach chairs and swim fins also available.
Mount Monadnock hiking trails are within easy driving distance (19 miles) and Southern NH is bursting with nature trails. Granite Gorge Ski Area is 5 miles away and Southern NH and VT ski areas within an hour's drive. Check out the web for Southern NH and VT cross country and downhill ski areas within easy driving distance.
We have tried to accommodate all ages in setting up Grammy camp. Having a large family, we understand keeping children busy so parents can relax. One side of porch is full of toys, games, and a GIGANTIC tub of Legos; the other side has a comfortable sitting area for morning coffee, tea or evening cocktail.
Satellite TV, streaming device and wireless Internet keeps you in touch with modern life and children in touch with their favorite programs.
Grammy Camp stay is quiet and stress free. Take a walk around the lake (3 miles) and enjoy the warm southern New Hampshire sun.
Camp is fully insulated and heated so you will be toasty warm even in a Winter blizzard. The town road is paved and plowed. Keene (11 miles) is a great walk around college community with ethnic restaurants, interesting shops and the new Monadnock Food Coop.
Maximum sleeps 4 guests. Minimum 2 night. Maximum 13 nights

Rejuvenating Getaway

Grammy's camp is exactly what we were looking for - a quiet, relaxing, and rejuvenating getaway. Waking up to the lake brought peace of mind. I particularly enjoyed how the kitchen was organized in a logical and user-friendly manner - I never had to search for a tablespoon! Joan was very responsive. I'd highly recommend this camp!

Great locale/ great rental

Joan’s Grammy Camp was a cozy rental with everything you need in place. Lake right across from house was nice vista. Wish we could have stayed longer and enjoy the lake more. Joan was always a text away and responded immediately-this was more for advising her of our arrival and then departure. Didn’t need anything-Grammy thought of everything! Thank you Joan for sharing your special vacation home with us. Jim & Janine.

Wonderful

Wanted to immerse myself in the New Hampshire wilderness and was not disappointed. Beautiful lake and woods. Isolated feeling but not quite alone as there are quite neighbors on either side. Close to city/ shopping (Keene). Absolutely loved it. Clean/ efficient. Just bring ur groceries and yourself! Ready to walk into and have a restful stay. Thank you. So glad I found you and Granny cabin!!!

Granny Camp New Hampshire bliss

We enjoyed our stay here, especially the convenience of having quick access to kayaks and the lake. It’s a beautiful area but rte 9 affected our serenity. You can hear the road clearly when you’re on or near the lake. Everything was easy to find with great labeling, and we were very comfortable. It really helped reading these comments before we came up as we brought up our Brita water filter. The water definitely has a sulphurous smell and is not particularly pleasant unfiltered. We did also have a friendly field mouse join us in the evenings. It was slightly off putting as it kept going into our bedroom! Overall it did not mar our stay but it is good to know if you’re squeamish.

She thought of everything

My husband and I and 2 dogs have stayed at several Home Away vacation properties but this is the first one where the owner thought of everything. All the basic food staples where there and every pot, pan, utensil, needed we're available. Bath and body essentials, like toothbrushs, creams, shampoos also available. Owner was very accommodating. Great TV set up for rainy days, which we had, and decent internet service. The only small negative was the tap water. (bad smell and taste) We had to buy bottled water for drinking. (it was fine for cooking and boiling.) But this is the well water. Anyway it's a minor thing. Great location. Close to Keene. Loved the Monodnock Coop and other good restaurants nearby and in neighboring Vermont. Dogs loved the area too; lots of trails. Might be nice if the back yard was fenced in. Enjoyed our stay.

Wonderfully quiet and relaxing get away

Grammy camp was a very relaxing and needed getaway. The property was exactly as pictured and described. Many things i normally bring were already there including flashlights and lighters for the gas grill, yes there is a gas grill!! The lack of AC was not a problem the days were in the 80's and it was very comfortable with the trees and lake breeze. The weather was a problem with heavy rains and flooding for the whole area from New Hampshire to New York so when we arrived part of North Shore Road flooded but we were able to drive thru it, the lake itself was flooded with the dock under water but a couple days later it came down and we took out the kayaks and the Canoe. This kind of weather is not normal this being record flood conditions and roads washing out in nearby counties, but we were not affected driving around in the area. Can't plan the weather when you book your stay but a couple days of rain at grammy camp was not a problem with wi fi and satellite TV and we stayed dry and well above the water. The beach is quite close to the camp and is perfect for kids as it is shallow with a dock that's tethered to a cinder block and rope thats about 75 feet long and with kids standing in the water with it all the way out they were only waist deep. At the dock in front of the camp its deeper you can swim off the dock for adults and its deeper. Special thanks to Joan and her husband for our stay at Grammy Camp Our line of communication was perfect with vrbo messaging!!

Power Out leads to no internet & 3AM alarm

The property and conditions were as explained on VRBO and for 3 of the 4 nights of the rental, the host was quick to reply and answer all queries. However, on night 3, the power went out for 5 seconds. The power came back on and the lights and electricity were restored, but the internet signal was out. Television was unavailable without the wifi. I sent a message to the host via text and VRBO but she did not immediately respond. I went to bed early [no internet → No TV]. During the night, an ALARM sounded at 2:48AM and I frantically got out of bed and got the dog and went out and sat in my car wondering what was wrong. The "house book" provides only flashlight location info in case of power outage - it does not mention alarms or how to restore the internet when the power returns. The host provided a text reply the next morning, 8 hours after the "no internet" notification with sympathy for an interrupted sleep and instruction on how to restore the wifi. It was a bad night during an otherwise fine experience.

Granite Lake

My husband and I loved our time at “ Grammy Camp”. The home was clean and had everything we would need. We enjoyed the fall weather and beautiful foliage at this serene lake. We read, took walks , enjoyed the fire pit at night and especially loved sitting on the porch with the sun shining through the windows. Would definitely go back again.

Lovely Lakeside & great cooking space!

It was as anticipated, a lovely little spot with quick, easy lakeviews and access and the water was lovely for a swim, even in late September! Bonus, clearly Joan is a cook! So there were ample, nice quality cooking pans and tools for inside and out. Sadly it was cool and rainy so we didn't do any outside cooking, but made our meal prep so enjoyable. Simple and cozy.

This place is spectacular if you are looking for a quintessential lake vacation. The perfect place for a family vacation. Absolutely everything you need to feel right at home. No need to bring entertainment for the kids, the lake is steps away. Granite lake is absolutely pristine. We are hoping to book another stay for next summer!
