The village itself features notable historical sites, including the earthwork remains of the motte and bailey castle, Castle Howe. The local pub, only 0.1 miles away offers locally sourced food and drink whilst Tebay Services at Junction 36 (4.2 miles) is renowned for its quality food at the bustling café. The services offer a plethora of farm shop goodies from local gelato to fine wines and spirits. The nearby village of Orton is well worth a visit 2.7 miles away with its famous chocolate shop that offers handcrafted delights. For walkers, Orton Scar and the Howgills are an exciting prospect for an afternoon excursion, and it is easy to see why this beautiful landscape was so celebrated by renowned fell walker and author Alfred Wainwright. The pretty towns of Appleby, Kendal, Sedbergh and Penrith are all within touring distance with their excellent range of attractions, leisure and shopping facilities.
