After visiting Chapel-en-le-Frith we instantly fell in love with the area and decided we wanted to create a base where we could relax after exploring the Peak District and surrounding areas. The area has so much to offer, from incredible walks to independent shops and eateries, and the friendly locals and visitors, who share the same love for Derbyshire. Why they chose this property
Chapel-en-le-Frith (or "Chapel in the Forest") was established by the King's Foresters in 1275. It features a cobbled Market Place and historic old stocks. It is also home to St Thomas Becket Church, founded in 1225, and the picturesque stone cottages of Church Brow. This steep, cobbled street is described in a town brochure as “Chapel’s answer to Gold Hill in Dorset, famous for the Hovis ads." The church bells ring out on Tuesday and Sunday, adding to the village’s quaint charm.
Nearby Eccles Pike, with its pink gritstone summit, offers breath-taking 360-degree views. Just seven miles away is the renowned spa town of Buxton, celebrated for its therapeutic spring water, Pavilion Gardens, and splendid Victorian Opera House, which hosts a variety of shows attracting visitors from around the globe.
A short drive will take you to numerous attractions, including the stately homes of Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Lyme Hall. The Goyt Valley and Castleton are famous for their caverns, such as Blue John, Speedwell, and the Devil’s Arse.
Chinley is a quaint village on the western edge of the Peak District National Park, popular with walkers for its dramatic trails over Cracken Edge, linking to Chinley Churn, Mount Famine, South Head, and further to Kinder Scout, Edale, and the Pennine Way. The village offers a selection of pubs with award-winning ales, cafes, and restaurants.
The quiet village of Combs boasts a country pub known for its quality ingredients, making it the perfect spot for a meal after exploring Combs Moss and Castle Naze.
Hayfield, a delightful village on the north-western edge of the Peak District National Park, was the setting for the BBC’s period drama “The Village" and is popular with walkers due to its proximity to Kinder Scout. Serious hikers head east from the village to the Kinder Plateau, Pennine Way, and Snake Path, while families and those preferring gentler walks can enjoy the beautiful Set Valley Trail towards New Mills.
