About this property
Boerum Hill historic brownstone, close to all subways, on tree-lined street
Enjoy one of Brooklyn's loveliest neighborhoods!
Our townhouse is an historic leafy oasis and convenient base from which to explore all of New York. Available for several weeks during this Fall as well as longer term rental beginning in 2019.
Built in 1858, the house contains most of the original detail but with new kitchen and eclectic furnishings and owner's artwork.
The entrance at the top of the stoop opens to a double parlor with 13' ceilings, pier mirrors and a working fireplace. The living room opens to a bright eat-in kitchen with new appliances and a terrace overlooking our garden. Convenient gas bbq makes outdoor meals easy! The powder room and extra coat closet is a short flight of stairs down from the kitchen.
On the second floor are two large bedrooms, one on the garden with kingsize bed and the other on the front of the house with a queen bed. Both are served by a newly renovated bathroom with shower and tub. On the third floor are two other bedrooms, one with queen bed and the other a small double. The bathroom on the third floor has shower and washer/dryer.
Boerum Hill is one of the most desirable neighborhoods of Brooklyn, a short walk from popular shopping and restaurants on Smith Street, theater at Brooklyn Academy of Music and minutes by subway to Manhattan.

About the host
Hosted by Roger Loft

We have lived in the house since our daughter was born and now spend summers at our farmhouse in France. The house is filled with art - mostly from Roger's work as a sculptor but also from artist friends. We both work at home - Roger's studio is below our garden apartment and my office is upstairs. I work as a producer of film, tv, and digital content.
Why they chose this property
We have witnessed the transformation of Brooklyn and our neighborhood - Boerum Hill - since moving here 25 years ago. At the time, it was very mixed - with mostly artists and antique-dealers buying properties to renovate. 25 years later there are still some of us left! but mostly, the neighborhood is well-heeled, working families, and still creative types - authors and even celebrities! We fell in love with this house because of its incredible original detail and its south-facing garden - we are only the third owners since 1858! - so very little of the house was changed.
What makes this property unique
What we have always loved about Boerum Hill is its beautiful houses, trees and gardens - which give it a very quiet feel - and at the same time, its proximity to the excitement of Manhattan, shops and restaurants on Smith Street, and easy access to all other parts of Brooklyn.
