Location, Location, Location

You can't beat the location. Out the front door and you're on the beach. Makes it simple to return to the house for a forgotten item, make lunch, grab a drink or use your own restroom. Beautiful wrap around porch provides the perfect setting for morning coffee, relaxing with a good book, hanging with family and a great view of the beach/ocean. Plenty of sleeping space with 6 bedrooms. Note: 2 BRs were bunk beds only so best for kids. Large open kitchen design and a separate large dining room are perfect for meals with family and friends. Beach chairs and towels are plentiful so don't bother to bring your own. There is no AC, but ceiling fans in 4 of the 6 BRs and a ocean breeze were enough to make for a comfortable night's sleep even on the 80 degree days. Five minute walk to local restaurant, coffee shop, ice cream shop and supermarket. The 3 off-street parking spots were a bonus. This is a 100+ year old home so expect period flooring, room layout and furnishings. Overall this is the quintessential beach house. We plan on returning next year.

Just what we needed

This house was exactly what we needed for our extended family gathering (ages 1 to 77). My dad had visited there as a child several summers over 60 years ago and he hadn’t been back since, so it was a special week to be there together. The house is over 100 years old and it’s solidly built with little noise transmittance (great for toddlers). There are plenty of bedrooms and the layout was perfect with most the bedrooms upstairs. We really enjoyed sitting on the first and second floor decks. We had one rainy day and watched the storm from the deck and stayed perfectly dry. We really never felt the need to go anywhere but the house and the beach! The beach access can’t be beat and was easy to go back and forth to make lunch etc. Naomi, our host, was extremely welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. We forgot a thing or two at the house and she was really helpful making sure it got back to us. We had an incredible week and will definitely be back!

Perfect vacation/reunion

The house was perfect. A traditional New England beach home--wrap-around porch with rocking chairs, across from the beach, outdoor shower, lots of beach toys and chairs. However, it has all the modern conveniences: dishwasher, washer and dryer. The ceiling fans in the bedroims and kitchen kept us comfortable at night. The owners were responsive and kind when we had questions. We had a wonderful vacation!

Location Location, but...

This house is just across from the beach in gorgeous Gloucester. It's an amazing location and the porches and views were incredible. The owner, Naomi, was lovely and communicative. Lots of towels and beach chairs there. That said, new and more complete photos of the house need to be posted on the website listing. The photos didn't convey the condition of the house, and they omitted altogether the old kitchen and very old bathrooms. Broken furniture should have been removed or replaced. This house really needs some renovation.

So convenient to the beach!

Our family of nine, including 3 generations, enjoyed a week of slightly less-than-perfect weather, playing cards and games, watching the surfers, and racing out to the beach between raindrops! We had everything we needed!

Great fall experience

Jeff & Naomi were great hosts. Jeff resolved a problem, putting our family before his own interests. It was greatly appreciated. Naomi checked in every so often to make sure we were happy. Loved the location of the property & all of the beach equipment provided. Thanks for a great get away!

Family holiday with friends

Perfect location for a beach holiday. Views from the house are great. The old fashioned house is charming and provided plenty of space for four adults and five children. Other than walk to the shops or town to buy fresh fish/lobster and ice cream we remained in the house or on the beach all week. Great holiday!

A Week at Ine Beach

My family and I have thoroughly enjoyed many stays at One Beach Rd, Gloucester. Our genial hosts, the Stonbergs, always make sure any of our needs are met promptly and cordially. There is no more convenient access to beautiful Good Harbor Beach than via the footbridge and One Beach is the closest access point to that. When not at the beach, sitting on One Beach’s wraparound deck or its second floor porch is so relaxing. Watching sunrise over Thatcher Island from that aerie is perfect. One Beach provides old world charm and perfect access to one of the Northshore’s loveliest beaches Julie from Lynn

Couldn’t ask for a better location!

I took my 87 yr old mother & her 88 yr old childhood friend away and we stayed in Naomi & Jeff’s beachfront home. The ladies relished their time together, walking on the same beach they played on as children & enjoying hours on the porch. The home was spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds & anything needed is provided. For those with some physical challenges, the bedroom & bath downstairs made all the difference for our needs. Conversely, it’s a great & easy beach house when traveling with kids, for certain. Our host & hostess were always available and gracious ~ highly recommend for a perfect beach stay on gorgeous Good Harbor.

Great location and accommodations.

Our family rented this vacation home for the first time. It has a great location and access to Good Harbor Beach. Many amenities were provided - beach chairs-beach toys-BBQ grill--beach towels-and many others. We only brought clothes and food. Lessors were very accommodating. We are looking forward to renting again next year.

A fantastic vacation house at Good Harbor beach!

Our families have come back for the last four years to enjoy an awesome vacation conveniently located across from the wonderful Good Harbor beach! We love watching the sunset in the comfortable chairs on the porch with our family. The sunrises are spectacular! The panoramic views of the beach and Thacher Island with the two lighthouses are fabulous. There is plenty of space in the house for the adults to relax and the busyness of our preschoolers at play as well as places to sleep comfortably. It's easy access not only to the beach, but to family activities throughout Gloucester and Rockport. We highly recommend this place to stay! We absolutely loved our stay and look forward to next years vacation once again in this fantastic house.

Carefree stay in the perfectly situated charming older cottage

You can't get any closer to Good Harbor Beach unless you camp out in the dunes. (Which,of course, isn't possible) than One Beach Rd. Wrap-around ocean-front porch and 2nd floor porch are the perfect spots for watching breathtaking sunrises and moonrises and for hanging out when you're not actually on the beach. Room for the extended family to relax and enjoy the beach, Goucester and Rockport restaurants, and still close enough to get to the office in Boston should the need arise without the hassle of Cape Cod traffic. Large kitchen and separate cozy dining room if you decide to cook or grill. State of the art, conveniently located washer/dryer makes keeping provided beach towels fresh. All linens provided means one less thing you have to transport from home. Six bedrooms fitted with great mattresses and the kids love the 2 rooms with bunkbeds. One Beach Road has become a family favorite. The Stonbergs are affable hosts ready to solve any problems which never seem to pop up. Don't expect oriental rugs and mahogany furniture, but everything you need for a carefree beach vacation is there at One Beach Rd. Gloucester. My family looks forward to our annual visit each year. Comfortable beach house with a spectacular beach at your doorstep. You won't find a more perfect spot to leave the cares of your every day life behind.

Beautiful house on the beach for a perfect vacation

This is the best location for a summer vacation - beautiful, spacious house RIGHT ON the beach. The house is well-equipped with anything you need to make this a fun, easy, relaxing vacation - comfortable beds, great amenities, grill, large kitchen, ice box to take to the beach with you, and many more things. The owners were very welcoming, making sure we have everything we need. There is also a big grocery store just around the corner, to make this location even more attractive. Highly recommended!

AN AWESOME FAMILY VACATION !!

This is the second year we have rented this house with our grown kids and their families. Both years have been amazing and we look forward to next years vacation at the beach house! Our grand babies are ages four years old and younger and it has helped their parents to be able to keep them on the same nap schedule while a parent relaxes on one of the porches and reads a book or watch other family members just across the street at the beach. Both porches are very relaxing and inviting and watching the sunrise (yes, sometimes we've been up that early) from one of the rocking chairs was a gift in itself! At night the porch has been a place of togetherness while we share each others stories, play cards and relax. The bedrooms are set up perfectly for us with a couple of them having adjoining doors so that we can fit pack n plays comfortably in them. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. We love that we can all fit in the kitchen and eat and also the dining room. This beach house has been a perfect fit for our family, very comfortable and feels like home to us. Good Harbor beach has been a delight!! We love everything it offers; walks along the shore at all hours of the day and into the night, sand castles galore, riding the "lazy river" on our boogie boards, and enjoying watching the kids catch hermit crabs, baby shrimp, and small stripers with their nets before letting them go back to the ocean. It's most amazing while we're enjoying the ocean and all its fun, that when all the beachgoers up and leave, we get to keep on having fun, or just relax and take our time knowing we can come and go as we please. We also fit in our daily walks which we so enjoy because of the beautiful ocean view and breeze off the water. We love walking in and out of the nearby streets just as we do at our own neighborhood. There are playgrounds, restaurants, deli's and bakeries all close by along with an ice-cream stand that we easily walk to that sells Richardson's ice-cream and happens to be one of our favorite creameries! We never worry about groceries because Stop N Shop is right across from the ice-cream stand :) very convenient! It's been very relaxing and yet invigorating to stay so close to the beach. It has definately been a refreshing and restoring vacation for all of us and we walk away with very happy memories of our togetherness!

Amazing Family Vacation

My husband, two young children (3 & 8 months), and in laws all spent the week in this amazing beachfront house at Good Harbor beach in Gloucester. What a wonderful way to spend time away from hustle of everyday life. We spent our days at the beach and our evenings enjoying each others company on the deck that overlooked the beautiful water and beach scenery. The house easily held our family and was so convenient to the beach and local restaurants. I strongly recommend this property as a vacation spot for families and even a fun group getaway. We can't wait to return next year!!

Paradise!!

My family just returned from a weeks vacation at this spot and it could not have been more perfect! Everyone hated to leave. The location is ideal - right across the street from the footbridge to Good Harbor Beach. If you don't know Good Harbor it is one of the best beaches in New England and this house is in the best location for the beach. We found the house to be very clean and have all the necessities and more as far as a washer and dryer, dishwasher, cookware, dishes, linens, and towels. As an added bonus the owners provide plenty of beach chairs so there was no need to bring any from home. All the beds were made up for us upon arrival which was great. The house is very spacious and there is a beautiful porch downstairs that looks out at the beach and a deck off the second floor with an incredible view of the beach. The beach itself is great for families. The ocean is ideal for swimming and is great for boogie boarding. As an added bonus there is a creek the kids can dig for crabs in at low tide and swim in during high tide. During low tide there is a great island you can walk out to and explore. At night it is fun to watch people surfing or playing volleyball on the beach. There were a few nights the kids were still swimming at 8:00. It was so convenient with kids to be able to walk back across the footbridge to the house if someone needed to use the bathroom or was hungry. It is so close and safe that the older kids could come and go from the house on their own. There is also a beautiful 2 mile walk you can take with breathtaking ocean views up Atlantic Ave. Gloucester has some great restaurants but I would recommend getting take out and enjoying paradise instead! We had plans to explore Salem and Rockport during our week, but nobody wanted to leave the beach! It was a perfect vacation! The owners could not have been more accommodating and even checked in to make sure all our needs were met.

3 generation family vacation, returning to my family home place.

Good Harbor Beach is my favorite beach bar none. The rental property is as close to the beach as you can get; perfect for vacationing with our 2 preschoolers. The beach house is a typical old Victorian "cottage". The beds were made up with clean linens and there were plenty of towels, floors were swept. However, routine maintainence was very poor. The windows and ceiling fans were filthy' Screens were torn in many windows. The kitchen cupboards have strong mildew or mold odor. The beds were comfortable with one strange exception. One of the bunk beds had a box spring for the top mattress and the bottom bunk had a mattresss and box spring! Even our 11 yr. old could not sit up in bed. We got a blow-up bed - problem solved. On the really not good down side to the great location, the footbridge is a hang out for teens, and we had a very anxious night with a drunken brawl right outside our windows. It was really bad. We expressed concerns to the owners and they said there had been no incidents of that kind in 20 years. They said we should have called police, but there are only 2 police cars in all of Gloucester. The next evening there were 3 police cars and dogs patroling the area. Anyway, be aware that 2 am is always a busy time for kids, some nights are louder than others. And the traffic on the road is constant and loud starting at 6 am. The owner is extremely protective of the parking area, meaning, although there are 5 spaces, you may only use 3, even if it is your sister come to visit for the afternoon. Extra parking may be had at the munincipal lot for free downtown, or on the street downtown for $5 a day (purchase new ticket by 8 am). Either way it is a half hour drive in each direction. But you probably need milk at the supermarket anyway. The whale watch was great. We walked to Salt Island many times. Loved Beauport Mansion and Hammond's Castle. Loved the 7 Lighthouse/Annisquam River boat tour. The schooner sail was breath taking. Too many mosquitos to enjoy Dogtown Common or Stagefort Park. Great entertainment and food at the Dog Bar on Rogers street. We ate a lot of great food; the only bad meal was at the Cape Ann Brewery - all 10 of us agree. Everyone had a great time and we are looking at Wingaersheik Beach for next year. The owner at 1 Beach Road was unnecessarily rude and that spoiled it for me.

We raised our three grown up daughters at Good Harbor Beach. Now, our grandchildren come. It is an anchor for our family.

Why they chose this property

We have lived next door since 1981. Now, we live there full time, and feel as though we are on vacation every day. The beach is beautiful 365 days a year.

What makes this property unique

The beach views are unbelievable. Sip coffee on the porch and watch your children play in the creek or relax on the 2nd floor veranda and enjoy the incredible panoramic view. You can sit there for hours. We have traveled all over the world and have never found a beach like Good Harbor!
