About this property

Ultimate Off-Grid Adventure Basecamp

An authentic log cabin located in the heart of the Mosquito Range. Camp Sherman is an off-the-grid cabin, sitting on 10 acres undisturbed forest, designed to be the ultimate high country basecamp for adventure. Here, you can choose your own adventure all-day long: From fishing gold-medal waters, hunting for that prized 10-point elk, bagging 14ers (Sherman, Lincoln, Bross, Cameron and Democrat's trailheads are just a short drive away), ripping sweet single track on a mountain bike, exploring the rich mining history of Park County or enjoying the hustle and bustle of Breckenridge. And how do you let that jam-packed adventure day ring out? With a cook-out and a glass of wine on the very spacious deck, a game of horseshoes (a swing for the little ones) and a few roasted marshmallows around the large fire-pit under the Milky Way.
Camp Sherman is truly a rustic 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom log cabin with a loft that can sleep 6. For the ultimate Colorado mountain experience, Camp Sherman is off the grid powered by solar with its own well, twice-filtered pure drinking water, indoor plumbing and gas. The kitchen is fully stocked to cook a gourmet meal (sorry no microwave) or enjoy a morning coffee (French press) on the porch swing or Adirondack rocking chairs.
Modern technology has been added for additional entertainment and communication purposes. In the cabin, you will have full 4G cell connection, Wifi and a 32" TV with Blueray player hooked up for Netflix.
We're excited to share our very special family getaway with you, and hope you will cherish and love it as much as we do.

All the benefits and beauty of nature in a comfortable location

This cabin was a beautiful and peaceful getaway for our annual family "camping" trip. There were plenty of things to do at the cabin as well as the surrouding area. It is also decently close to town so we were able to get groceries and whatnot. I highly recommend this location for a serene and relaxing getaway.

Paradise in the mountains

From the gorgeous property to the friendly "wild"life, this place is amazing. It would be perfect for families with kids, there's so much to do. There's a horseshoe pit, a zipline that I was not brave enough to try, and lots of rolling hills to exexplore. I would stay here againin a heartbeat. Amazing place!

Great cabin

Cabin mixes off-the-grid ruggedness with modern comforts quite well! Our entire group loved the cabin and its amenities + the location can't be beat. Rental process was very easy and the owners were very responsive. Definitely follow the driving directions provided by the owners as Google maps seemed to struggle.

Great crash pad for a ski weekend at Breckenridge!

If you want to ski two days at Breck or Keystone, Camp Sherman is a great choice. Everything you need and nothing you don’t - best of all - no craziness of busy ski town and no I-70 mayhem. We’ll be back for sure!

Amazing property

This cabin is absolutely amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for my vacation. The wildlife was abundant during my stay. Interior reflected a true cabin and I loved it however it was close enough to other towns for sight seeing. Will be back.

Lovely cabin in a beautiful location.

Really enjoyed our stay at Camp Sherman. The cabin is cozy and comfortable, and isolated enough to afford peace and privacy. The owners were super responsive and very nice. Warning for anyone coming from sea level - give yourself a day or two to acclimate to the elevation, which is above 10,000 ft.

Base camp Adventure

The cabin and location are both great. We loved how clean and efficient it is. Simple, rustic, and wonderful. A great place for drinking coffee, fresh mountain air, and rest and renewal. We were joined one morning by a big bull moose and got the pleasure of watching him graze in the meadow while we sipped our cup of Joe. Loved Camp Sherman!

They skied, I stayed in the cabin

We truly enjoyed our time at the cabin. It was the perfect get away for me, while everyone else skied! It is well maintained and a beautiful property. We even enjoyed some sledding on the property. We recommend Camp Sherman for anyone who wants to stay away from everything and just enjoy the forest. Within an hour of Copperhead and 30 minutes of Breckinridge ski slopes. We plan on going back!

Exactly what we needed!

Just got back home and already can’t wait to go back to Camp Sherman. Stephanie & Olaf are wonderful host and are available to help if needed. This off the grid cabin, with modern conveniences, was exactly what my husband and I needed….more than we realized!! It is so peaceful and relaxing. You truly feel completely alone, but still close enough to the store, restaurant and skiing!! Highly recommend staying!

Paradise in the Woods

This is my second stay at Camp Sherman. Olaf and Stephanie are great hosts and know how to make a simple cabin amazing! I go here for the solitude and beauty and it can't be beat. I'll be back, no doubt. The cabin has everything you need, even a new shower and skylights which were both great additions I got to enjoy. You won't be disappointed with Camp Sherman!

Better than expected

This property was a perfect getaway, that included all the all the necessities of home with the off grid experience I was looking to have. A cow moose and her calf joined me for morning coffee. The location was perfect for access to Mosquito Ridge, Hooser pass and a quick trip into Breckenridge to visit a couple of breweries. Olaf was very responsive to help us with a small issue with the power system. I would definitely stay here again.

About the host

Hosted by Stephanie & Olaf Richter

Host profile image
Hi there. We're a young active family who values creativity, authenticity, the smell of a campfire and a push to the summit. During the week, you'll find us rushing around in the city and trying to raise 2 little perfect humans. On the weekends, we try to stretch out, exhale deep and take advantage of the rich Colorado backcountry.

Why they chose this property

Stephanie and Olaf chose this property to make it their weekend adventure getaway and to raise a family amidst the great outdoors. Camp Sherman has been an integral part to our Colorado high mountain experience, and offers a deep connection to mountains, wildlife, the stars and, in a way, our existence.

What makes this property unique

Camp Sherman is an authentic hand-built, off-the-grid log cabin that is situated in the middle of a 10-acre parcel of land. The entire South Park Valley has been designated as a Natural Heritage Center due to it's rich mining and pioneer history. It's also unique in that the valley floor is at 10,000 feet, which makes for great daytime temperatures when the city is roasting. Camp Sherman itself is situated at 10,200 ft, which is the very low spot of the Valley of the Sun.

Being off-the-grid in an authentic log cabin allows for a unique and deep connection to nature and a simpler way of life. As much as we love the coziness of a roaring fire in the fireplace, we also appreciate a good movie and solid wifi. Modern tech made it possible, so you get to enjoy both the solitude of the setting, along with tech-enabled creature comforts of wifi and Netflix.
