The location of the rental was very pleasant. There is no ocean view from the property, but you can hear the waves. The beach is a short walk away, so that helps. The décor was nice, but there were quite a few things that really concerned me and made the stay unpleasant.
Safety:
Hot water temp is extremely hot. In residential settings, the hot water should be set to 120 degrees F. I measured 139.5 with my meat thermometer. Additionally, the place is not up to fire code. There are no smoke detectors in the bedrooms and the one in the hallway and living room are nowhere near the ceiling. NFP 70-1 requires smoke detectors to be placed at the highest point of elevation in the ceiling, or within 12 inches. In the unfortunate event of a fire, the detectors would not go off in an acceptable amount of time.
Maintenance:
Both toilets clogged very easily and the one in the hallway had to have special attention to make sure the water did not run continuously on it. Some of the fixtures, like the towel rack in the master bath are not attached to the wall correctly and will fall out if you actually try to use them. Also, the toaster in the kitchen was broken.
Comfort and Cleanliness:
The tub in the master bathroom was not cleaned, as was evident by the sand and pubic hair left all over the basin. Almost all the cook pans are bent, making is very difficult to cook with. The appliances and furniture are the cheapest of the cheep. The oven does not even have an oven timer. The dishwasher does not work with the packets provided, you need to use liquid detergent to get it to actually wash. The refrigerator does not cool properly, causing us to lose all our vegetables due to being frozen. The couch in the living room is broken, causing you to sink to the bottom. The two chairs provided look nice, but are incredibly uncomfortable to sit in.
Overall, the location is nice but that's about it. The house has a lot of potential, but the owners need to take some serious time to do some maintenance on essential things.
