About this property

Luxury Apartment 'Just For Two' In Authentic Hilltop French Village

Les Tourterelles Apartment occupies half of the First floor of a C17th Village house, and was completely renovated in 2014 by an expert Restoration Artisan. He took great care to retain all of the original features in order to give visitors a memorable stay in a truly Authentic French village house. For your comfort all new facilities, plumbing and electrics have been installed.
Understated but tastefully decorated, the Apartment has beautiful views out over the walled garden and plunge pool, rooftops, neighbouring gardens and fields..
It is very spacious (almost 50 sq metres) and is luminous with high wood beam ceilings. The main Salon is open- plan. The bedroom area is romantic and spacious with soft lighting and is made private with heavy linen curtains. It has real opening windows, morning sun and a view out over the guests courtyard. Thick stone walls keep the apartment cool during the hot months. There are lots of big windows that open and heavy wooden shutters to keep the Summer heat out.
The Apartment has its own private entrance via a wide external stone staircase with a tiny Terrace at the top. Right next to these stairs with rambling vines is a ground floor Courtyard for guests only to sit outside with Coffee and Croissants in the morning sun or have a BBQ in the evening.

Guests are welcome to use the Plunge Pool which is shared with the house.
Les Tourterelles is equally a lovely place during the Winter months when central heating, full insulation and new double glazed windows keep it warm and cosy.
The fit out is very high quality: The supremely comfortable Bed 160cm (King size) is a Simmons top range and is dressed with white French Linen dried in the sun. There is a choice of real, rectangular Australian Jumbuck wool pillows, or pillows with synthetic filling. A generous supply of fresh Bath Towels and Pool towels is included. A well equipped little kitchen means you can eat at home if you need a night off from eating out in the dozens of restaurants nearby. All levels of dining out are available nearby, from casual little bistros with outdoor dining by the river or a Michelin star restaurant at the bottom of the hill in Daglan.
The Lobby area allows plenty of luggage storage.
The bathroom is beautiful, immaculate and unusually large for France(10 sq m) with Double Handbasins, Italian Shower and a Full size bath with shower attachment - and a view to die for.
High wooden beam ceilings ensure that the apartment is luminous, fresh and airy, and no risk of hitting your head on those beautiful but sometimes uncomfortably low beams one encounters in many old places.
Even though it is in the centre of the Village Les Tourterelles and the environment around it is very peaceful. There is almost no noise other than birdsong and Cicadas in Summer, which is wonderful for a good nights sleep.
There is enough space for just one car tucked up against our old stone wall.
Les Tourterelles is really an Apartment just for two people and not suitable for children.

Wonderful apartment with a lot of French charm

We had a wonderful 2 weeks in the apartment, who has a real true French charm interior. We had everything we needed and more. The bed was really comfortable, the bathroom big and had everything we needed, the kitchen well equipped, good WiFi etc. A really relaxing vacation. Our host Anne took really good care of us. She was so sweet. She gave us good suggestions of places to see and where to eat. She even made dinner reservations for us. The natural plunge pool and garden was lovely. We used it every day. We love the area and the small village. We absolutely want to go back to this wonderful place. /Fiffi and Hans, Örebro, Sweden

A lovely apartment in a beautiful part of France

Les Tourterelles is the perfect place just for two. The apartment is beautiful, spacious, fresh and spotless. A big and lovely bathroom with a real bath completes the picture. The little village is charming, only a few minutes drive from many famous tourist sites, and is just a short drive down the hill to a very good choice of three restaurants. Highly recommended.

This is a lovely authentic property with a more than comfortable apartment carved out of the house.

The owner was extremely hospitable and everything we needed including linen, towels, soap, tea and coffee was there on our arrival. This was perhaps one of the most relaxing holidays we've ever had. The views were perfect, the food was amazing, the weather was incredible and people of the area were very welcoming. We will be back.

Vacances merveilleuses

Beautiful apartment with loads of character

Located in a picturesque hilltop village within easy reach of many of the best places to visit in the Dordogne. This charming apartment has been renovated to a very high standard, retaining all the original character and features. It was the perfect place to retreat to and relax in after exploring the region. It is spacious, peaceful and extremely comfortable and well equipped. The luxury bed ensured we slept really well and we loved the spacious bathroom and generous sized bath. Annie, the owner, couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful ensuring that we made the most of our stay. A five star experience and highly recommended.

Perfection in the French countryside

We loved our stay in this very special place and want to go back soon! . To be able to have such comfort in a 17th century home is amazing! Besides the incredible renovation that completely keeps the character without sacrificing modern conveniences, Annie has managed to thoughtfully include everything you need for a delightful stay. Once you figure out where you are you soon realize there is so much to do within 30 minutes of the home. We loved our lunches in Le Petit Paris in Daglan, Lo Gorissado near St. Andre de Allas and Cabanoix & Chataine in Domme. Annie's warm hospitality, the perfect setting of this charming apartment set in this old stone village, and the proximity to the delights of the Dordogne region make this an absolute winner that we highly recommend!

About the host

Host profile image
I came to live in France from Australia three years ago, and almost by accident was fortunate enough to find this absolutely charming house in the Dordogne which I love. Actually, friends found it for me, and it was big enough to create a private apartment upstairs so others can experience this very beautiful part of the world too. Now the house has a whole new life, so do we in this lovely village with it's wonderful people. I am an ex Restaurateur, and this is the perfect place for a Foodie. And I still manage to get down to the Pacific too, so it's a wonderful life.

Why they chose this property

In France they say that when a person is looking for a home there has to be a 'Coup de Coeur'. Some very lovely friends of mine found this house for me, it was quite simply our Coup de Coeur.

What makes this property unique

Le Peyruzel is a little Village oozing with authenticity, charm and life, even in the Winter, and our house with its private Apartment reflects this charming ambience.
