About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pick up game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

The pictures are not necessarily deceptive but this place is definitely “rustic”. We loved the outdoor patio and also the information book inside the cabin let us to many local spots that we may have otherwise missed. Check in was extremely convenient and easy. Location was great and close to the park gate.

Great time
We stayed July 21-27. It was a beautiful location with the river overlook outside the back deck. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was very useful. Bathrooms were adequate and clean. It does take about an hour each way to get to the central valley or glacier point, but we expected that. It was 102F in the afternoons, but the cabin was not unbearable even without A/C and it cooled off into the 60s by midnight or so. Opening the windows at night really cooled off the cabin and kept it cool until around 1pm the next day. The nearby swimming holes were great to cool off in the heat of the afternoon.

Great Cabin for Yosemite
This was a nice cabin for exploring Yosemite. You are located inside the park and about 45-50 mins from the valley. Stayed with my wife and infant daughter and worked great. The cabin has 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths. The deck is nice with a view of a river and propane grill that had gas and grill equipment. There is a small market walkable from the cabin with small selection of goods and another small market and gas station about 5 min drive from cabin. Would recommend staying here.

Yosemite Trip
Property was very much as expected. Pleasantly surprised by the particular location/setting considering the surrounding properties in the neighborhood. Most properties did not enjoy the setting from the back deck that this property had, views and sounds of the river below. There was also a convenient store very close by. The only thing that would have made this better was a bit more items for use considering such a trip. Many people are coming in via air travel where home amenities are few and far between. A day use cooler would have been super helpful, along with the ability to make ice. Perhaps some camping/folding chairs that we could take into the park. A few more spices and such would have been helpful as well. Outside of that, as advertised.

Super cozy, quaint, affordable, and nostalgic cottage for my adult family of 5 for my bucket list trip to Yosemite. Cottage was clean w/ a really nice partially covered composite deck with a beautiful of the creek and woods. Even had a gas grill and really nice fireplace too. The property management staff was super friendly and accommodating allowing me to use their laundry facility for free. All of this helped to make a really fulfilling & memorable trip for us... thank you!

Perfect place To stage our Yosemite adventures from! Location was amazing. Right in the park. The view off the huge back deck was awesome! Plenty of room and good internet (for me ;-)). Clean and well equipped kite hen we cooked every night. Little grocery just a short walk away. I was also able to ge t a good hill work run in everyday at this location! Would definitely stay here again!

Cabin needs updated & maintenance. Had mold in bathroom. No garbage disposal or dishwasher. Unable to use wood fireplace. Furniture & carpet severely worn & dirty. Only positive thing was nice deck with beautiful views. Would be outstanding if owner would make investment. Good location inside park.

Sister Trip Getaway
This cabin worked well for a 4 sister get together. The property was as advertised. We did find the primary bathroom quite small but we made it work. Management responded quickly to a maintenance request. We loved sitting on the deck in the evening with wine and snacks and listening to the river and wildlife. We only cooked one night but found everything we needed including a great gas grill.

Wawona get away
Our stay could not have been better. The house, in the rustic knotty pine theme, fits in so well at Wawona. The kitchen is well stocked. The new deck is the best room in the house, with a wonderful view of the river. The property description does not mention access down to the river, but I've noticed other properties nearby DO mention a path to the river. We had no problems finding the river near the cabin.

Great Location
We loved the quiet little neighborhood. Having the general store within walking distance was also great. Kitchen and living room were functional and comfortable. we enjoyed cooking our meals and eating them out on the deck over looking the river. 30-40 minute drive into the valley was not a issue either. We hit the road early in the morning and were pretty much finished with our hikes by noon. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful and quiet, but...
The rustic cabin is everything I had hoped for - quiet, private, roomy, lovely views, well stocked and maintained. Only complaint is the bathrooms seriously need to be upgraded - they're bordering on unhealthy.

We loved our cabin, it’s amazing view of the Merced, the surrounding neighborhood, and the easy access to the river. Everything was lovely! Would highly recommend staying in three in again. Only discrepancy was a listing for a hide a bed in the sofa, which was incorrect.

Perfect Cabin for Yosemite trip
This was our first time to Yosemite and absolutely loved it. This location is perfect because you are already in the park each day. The drive to the valley only took 30-40 minutes. Marioposa Grove was only 10-15 minutes away and the Wawona Hotel, which we ate dinner at twice, was right next door. There is also a gas station less than 5 minutes away. The cabin itself served our needs perfectly. The view to the river on the back deck was a hit and we ate outside most nights. The grill was gas so no need for charcoal. Also we were able to fire up the Netflix at night time to wind down. Pine Market was walking distance and had most things we needed including beer and dinner, snacks, odd and end things we forgot. Thanks again!

Great cabin
The cabin was really spacious with a terrific deck overlooking a riverbed-but in the spring I'm sure it would be a river/stream. Two bathrooms which was really nice.

The cabin was spacious and clean. The back porch was my favorite spot, looks out to a wooded area and the river. So very beautiful. We heard coyotes every morning instead of noisy tourist. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone. Thank you! Sherry Johns

My kind of camping!
My family loves the peace and tranquility found in nature. The cabin allowed us to enjoy it without tents and sleeping outdoors. We especially enjoyed the back deck with the birds singing and squirrels chirping. We also really liked the big stone fireplace. The cabin is basic with no dishwasher, minimal toiletries and paper goods. The furniture is well-used and the beds are on the firm side. Overall we were quite comfortable and it was a huge time-saver to stay within the park boarders. We would recommend a cabin with The Redwoods at Yosemite to others.
