Secluded Private Cabin on Hayward's Beautiful Moose Lake
Moose and Musky Retreat will give you the feel of being in a vintage Northwoods lodge with its cedar beams, 14 foot ceilings and a real wood-burning stone fireplace. Walk out to the expansive sun deck that overlooks beautiful Moose Lake with 1,670 acres and 28 miles of shoreline. The lake is 75 feet away with a gradual slope leading to the shoreline. You are in your own secluded cove which provides solitude with no signs of neighbors or their docks and protection for your boat from battering waves.
Enjoy hot summer nights in the large vaulted ceiling screen porch. The home is tastefully decorated with paintings, log furniture and wildlife mounts. The updated open concept kitchen/dining area has lots of room to spread out and prepare meals for your family. Enjoy beautiful views of the lake from the large, handmade aspen bar-height gathering table. The upstairs Master bedroom has a queen size bed and private balcony overlooking the lake and its own 3/4 bathroom. There are 2 bedrooms on the second level. One bedroom has a queen, the other has a handmade hickory bunk bed with a queen down and a twin up. This bedroom also has a hickory wood twin bed. The basement has lookout windows and a bunk room with 4 twin beds with custom water ski head boards. The main floor has a full bath and a 1/2 bath.
The garage serves as a game room for guests of all ages. The lakefront is over 360 feet of mostly sand and gravel shoreline. Moose Lake is a Class A musky lake that also has plentiful walleye, bass and pan fish. Catch fish right off the dock or launch your boat just down the road.

Pretty cabin by the frozen lake, typical decoration, welcome fireplace with the ambient cold, we would have liked the dishes to be clean as well as the bathrooms! we would also have liked to play billiards, however it was in the frozen garage. Otherwise it was nice.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
Pros: We spent a lot of time in the game room, which had pool, darts, and other games, as well as a full-sized fridge. The pool table and cue sticks were in great shape. We spent a lot of time in that room! We also enjoyed playing corn hole in the yard (although the borders on the boards were coming apart). We also enjoyed the canoe and paddleboard. The deck was amazing! Mosquitoes didn't bother us much at all out there. There was a nice breeze and enough comfortable chairs for all of us. The view was beautiful, and we felt far enough away from neighbors. The bed in the upstairs room was very comfortable (memory foam). Rooms had ceiling fans, which helped keep us fairly cool.
Cons: The kitchen supplies (silverware in particular) were dirty. The lighting was not great in the living room. And the other mattresses were not comfortable. The information provided in the VRBO guide was not very helpful or up to date. For example, there was no helpful information about recycling. The instructions recommended we recycle, but it didn't provide any information about what to recycle and where to put the recyclables. When asked, the property manager said to put recyclables in the dumpster. Our party ended up bringing the recyclables home with them. At least one recommended restaurant in the binder closed years ago. The area was not great for swimming (only a couple of feet deep off the pier with lots of tree stumps).
We did enjoy our time there though!
We had a great stay. House was fully stocked with everything we needed. They should update the pictures on the website, it showed a full refrigerator, stand up dart board, arcade game, and when we got there it was a dorm size refrigerator, a hang up dart board, and no arcade game. It wasn’t a big deal for us because we brought plenty of coolers, but it would have been nice to have the space of a full refrigerator.
The house provided more than enough space for 2 couples and 6 kids. The decor and outdoor amenities (grill, fire pit, dock, canoe, etc) made for a great cabin by the lake vacation. Would definitely stay there again.
