About this property

Peaceful Hilltop Casita w/ Stunning Views, Close to the Historic Plaza

Our casita, Cielito Lindo, is located in exclusive North Hills, situated at an altitude of 7,200 ft. on a serene and beautiful hilltop, three minutes from the historic Santa Fe Plaza, galleries, restaurants, shopping and night life. Experience sunrises and sunsets as you've never seen before. Night is especially magical in North Hills. In the summer, sit outside on your private portal listening to the wind sighing in the piñons. Gaze at stars so bright you can almost touch them. Hear the howl of coyotes in far-off hills and, in between, a serene and profound silence unique to the high desert country of northern New Mexico. In the winter, build a roaring fire in the kiva and snuggle in with a book, music or television or just listen in silence to the crackling fire. Cielito Lindo is a place to reconnect - with yourself and with the world around you.

Situated on a hilltop off a quiet street with private parking, Cielito Lindo offers a cosy, romantic getaway that features a large living room complete with a Kiva fireplace, 50" TV, and stereo system. Enjoy home cooked meals from the spacious fully equipped kitchen or take a short walk down to the plaza for shopping and restaurants. The bedroom offers a queen bed, along with plenty of closet space. The den can also be used as a second bedroom complete with a sleeper sofa or as an office while working away from home.

This casita is ideal for a writer, painter, arts lover, couple or family in search of serenity and all the natural beauty that Santa Fe has to offer.

For those interested in working offsite, the casita has high speed internet accessed through cable. The service provider is Xfinity and our plan includes their Performance Pro internet (300 Mbps download speed, gaming, multiple devices), digital tv and a VoIP landline.

Conveniently located about 1 mile from the historic Santa Fe Plaza, shops, grocery stores, galleries and museums and a 12-minute drive from the world-famous outdoor Santa Fe Opera.

For skiers/boarders which the owners are, the base of the Ski Santa Fe Quad is 17 miles or a 30-minute drive away. You can also take a bus to the ski basin; the bus stop and free parking are two minutes from the casita.

Amazing Cozy Little Casita

Fantastic little property nestled in the hills north of Santa Fe. It was very quiet with sunset views. It was super easy to drive to the plaza. The owners were super helpful. They found out that we liked to hiked and they gave us a lot of suggestions as to where to go. Don’t be bashful to ask them for suggestions. They have some good ones. We enjoyed a fire in the kiva while we watched a movie and relaxed after a long day. Definitely will come back next time we go to Santa Fe!

Beyond Expectations

We couldn' have been happier with our stay! We came to explore the area, and this casita was a lovely part of the experience. Every nook and cranny was so inviting, but our favorite spot was in the back, watching the sunset over the mountains most evenings.

Peaceful Hilltop Casita Review Two

This is Peaceful Hilltop Casita review two for us. Between September 19-26, 2024 we enjoyed our second visit to Chris and Marie's casita oasis. In a previous review we described in detail all the reasons why we enjoyed our stay. Just a brief synopsis of those reasons. The captivating Jemez Mountains to the west, and the magnificent Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east. The serenity of the beautiful red, orange, yellow sunsets over the Jemez Mountains from the patio. Plus, the wonderful serenity and quiet of the hilltop while only being a few minutes drive from Sante Fe's amenities. Must reiterate how our hosts, Chris and Marie, made every effort to make our stay comfortable. From the nice welcome note on the dining room table, tasteful placement of house plants, exceptional cleanliness, comfortable furniture, and all necessary supplies for a fire in the fireplace. The refrigerator was thoroughly cleaned and cleared of any condiments and perishables previous guests may have left. A huge plus for us. In closing, the Peaceful Hilltop Casita, surrounding grounds and mountains, are magical. If you are looking to enjoy a restful, renewing experience with all the beauty that Santa Fe and surrounding area offers then look no further than the Peaceful Hilltop Casita. We already have our reservations for April/May, 2025, and are looking forward to enjoying the Hilltop Casita's magic again. Once again, kudos to Chris and Marie!

The best casita in the best town in the American west.

This lovely casita in beautiful Santa Fe is simply the best VRBO we've ever stayed in anywhere. It's a wonderful place with both privacy and some of the best sunsets you will ever see. The owners give you complete privacy while always being there to help you with anything great or small. It gets our very highest recommendation!

Encore

I've stayed at the property multiple times for a reason: it checks all the boxes: cleanliness, good location, private, has patio and all key amenities, from large tv to clothes washer/dryer to stove to microwave to coffee maker, dishes, utensils, etc. Hosts are very personable and respond quickly to queries.

A little place of heaven in a City Different

This was our first VRBO stay. We didn't know what to expect, but Cielito Lindo exceeded whatever expectations we had. Only 5 minutes by car from the main attractions in the center of the tourist area of Santa Fe and the shopping areas, it was nevertheless "above it all". Up in the hills, nestled into pinon pines and high desert shrubs, the air was fresh and clean with deep quiet and solitude. The inside of the property included a well-stocked, easy to use kitchen as well as a comfortable living room with large screen TV and a working fireplace. There was also a small office/desk area. But the highlight was the outdoor spaces. One was right outside the sliding door to the living area, with a little breakfast table and 4 chairs. The other was a bit hidden-- two comfortable Adirondack plastic chairs a few steps beyond, perfectly placed to watch the sunset. There was even a small table to place your snacks and drinks as you enjoy the theater of it all. Parking was easy, entry was even easier, and the hosts were informative and welcoming. The perfect place to enjoy a short or longer visit to Santa Fe and the surrounding areas.

Peaceful Casita on a Beautiful Property

This casita was perfect for my week-long stay. I loved the open and airy feel, with lots of windows and natural light. It had excellent internet connection for my online course. Beautiful trees and landscaping, and very private. Great location just outside the busyness of Santa Fe, but a quick, easy drive to town. The owners, Chris and Marie, were so delightful and friendly. They responded quickly to communication, and were helpful and accommodating. I've stayed in quite a few different rentals in Santa Fe, and this is by far my new favorite. I look forward to staying here again.

Charming casita in a great location

Three good friends enjoyed a long weekend in this cute casita. It is in a great location that allows quick access to central Santa Fe but was also wonderful when we opted to have a night in. Quiet area with a lot of privacy. We took long walks in the mornings along the very low traffic roads. The extra futon was very comfortable and we loved the fireplace and sunset view from the backyard. Owners were excellent with all communication.

Delightful Peaceful Hilltop Casita

We enjoyed a wonderful visit in the Peaceful Hilltop Casita between February,14-21, 2024. The casita is nestled in a peaceful setting just outside Santa Fe. To the west is a magnificent view of the Jemez Mountains and to the east the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The casita is surrounded by pinon trees and junipers giving the effect of being in the woods while only being a few minutes' drive from all of Santa Fe's amenities. Our hosts, Chris and Marie, made every effort to make our stay comfortable. From the nice welcome note on the dining room table when we arrived, the tasteful placement of houseplants, the exceptional cleanliness, comfortable furniture, all supplies necessary to enjoy a cheery fire in the fireplace, down to the small legal pad with a pen in a basket on the dining room table, it was abundantly clear the efforts to makes us feel welcome. The refrigerator was thoroughly cleaned and cleared of any condiments and perishables that previous guests had left. That is a huge plus for us. We have stayed in numerous places in New Mexico, and usually the pervious guests' condiments and perishables are left in the refrigerator which is a deal breaker for us. The attention paid to making sure the refrigerator was emptied and spotless made a huge favorable impression on us. For a restful, renewing, experience with all the beauty that Santa Fe and the surrounding area offers look no further than the delightful Peaceful Hilltop Casita! Kudos to our hosts

We really enjoyed our stay at Chris and Marie's hilltop casita, and the hospitality they demonstrated to accommodate our New Year gathering with our adult family. One son lives in Santa Fe, so we are regular visitors. We will definitely look for availability at the hilltop casita for our next trip to the area.

Wonderful Casita

I highly recommend this peaceful casita! It is incredibly private you never feel like you are being watched. The check-in is smooth and easy and the casita itself is wonderful. The outside area is great for a glass of wine with stunning New Mexico sunsets. The owners are very helpful and have great suggestions for the area. They even lent me a couple of books for the area. The neighborhood is excellent and my wife loved running on the hilly roads. It is close to the wonderful downtown plaza area and to the roadway to the ski area and a bunch of great hikes all along the road. Excellent people, great homey casita with almost everything you need for your stay, and a phenomenal location. We will be back!

Fantastic retreat close to the Plaza but away from it all!

The hosts were super responsive to questions and full of great advice on things to do. The casita was super clean, comfy beds and so very relaxing. Watched the sunset from the backyard, heard coyotes and the stars were amazing. So very close to the Plaza, short drive to fantastic hikes. Will definitely be a repeat guest. A++++

Loved our stay

We had a great experience in this home during our 6 day stay. Owners were very responsive and the Casita was perfect for our needs. View at sunset and night were amazing. We sat stargazing at night into a dark sky. It was convenient to all of the activities were participated in during our time in Santa Fe.

About the host

Hosted by Chris Howson

Host profile image
The owners live in a separate house on the property and we are available to answer any questions you may have about Santa Fe, the surrounding areas, or your lodging.
In addition, as an epidemiologist and nurse we ensure a deep cleaning and disinfection of the casita, its linens, kitchen items and other contents before and after every rental.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property because we love the variety that Santa Fe has to offer. The arts scene is incredibly vibrant--art and photo galleries galore, plays, bars and night clubs with music into the early morning hours and, of course, the world famous open air Santa Fe Opera is only a 12-minute drive from our property. We also love the outdoors and have the alpine meadows and ski basin of the Santa Fe Wilderness to hike in 6 miles to the east and the mysterious, red rock canyons and Ghost Ranch of the vast Piedra Lumbre basin to the northwest. Wildlife abounds around our property--eagles, ravens, coyotes, bobcats and bears live in the surrounding hills and don't be surprised by the occasional roadrunner running across the road in front of you. Plus, we are both skiers and love that we can drive out the property and 35 minutes later be buckling on our ski boots at 10,600 ft.

What makes this property unique

Santa Fe is far south in the US but our house and casita are at 7,200 ft. in altitude, so the winters are warm with bright sun and the summers cool and dry. With 323 days of sun a year, northern New Mexico is an ideal vacation spot.
