This is your getaway for all types of outdoor activity like walking to the Brazos River (8 blocks from river) touring around northern New Mexico's beautiful alpine country, visiting the many local towns, lakes, and rivers. SUMMERTIME hiking, swimming, fly fishing, canoeing, shopping, mountain biking. WINTERTIME downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, local hot springs.
HISTORY By the upper Brazos River in Northern New Mexico, at the base of the famous Brazos Cliffs, our cabin resides in a cabin community dating back to the 1930’s. The village began with the Brazos Lodge and 12 cabins, some which are still in use today. The area was incorporated in the 1960’s with lots being sold and cabins built over the years. Our cabin was built in 1974, from local materials acquired at the old mill in nearby Chama, NM and stone from the nearby quarry.

WIFI, no wifi AT CABIN, but cell phones carriers, VERIZON and ATT work great at cabin, for texting and internet, T-MOBILE 5G does not work! closest service is down hill 5 miles for T-MOBILE.

COVID, regular sanitizing still in place.

Amazing Experience

I was looking for a quiet, clean and safe space to reflect and rejuvenate. I run into this listing and decided to book. My experience in the cabin was amazing. It was clean, well kept and quiet. Wildlife was abundant in the neighborhood, thus, for those who enjoy wildlife. Tim was an amazing host, he is professional, direct in communication and easy to work with. I will recommend this cabin!

pleasant environment

property is made for younger age group. all but 2 chairs were not comfortable including futon. when i sit down i do not want my butt below my knees. let them beeven. lighting in the cabin was dark, and for a book reader this was a minus..nice kitchen. ice maker never worked.owner was slow to respond to texts. owner texted 1 day before departure to check on us. how about 2 days after arrival? . just not our cup of tea. I could say more....but.wildlife was fun. it was as advertised 750 sq. ft. 1 closet. stairs, no phone call out. temps were great. fishing was a challenge.

Cozy and clean

Lovely, quiet, cozy, clean, and well stocked. I feel like the listing should have mentioned that there is no WiFi or cell phone service at all (it is about a 10-15 minute drive out to get cell service). Not a big problem except when we got there I realized that I hadn't written down the code to open the lock box, so we had to drive back out to get cell coverage so I could open the message with the code. That was a little frustrating, and I think better communicating the lack of coverage would have helped, and/or texting the code to my phone instead of (or in addition to) using VRBO messaging. Also, I would say that the deck was undersold in the pictures -- it has nice furniture and is very nice to sit out and relax. Tons of deer wondering about and there are wild turkeys out the front door that the neighbor is clearly feeding. :) In any case, no major complaints on our stay at all. It really was lovely.

Three night stay at Chama cabin

Three of us stayed three nights at the cabin. There were plenty of books to browse, ample towels, blankets, and toiletries (including first aid supplies and band aids which we needed). The unit was clean and cozy with instant hot water in the shower and an excellent glass top electric stove. The upstairs bedroom was a healthy climb and the view of the distant mountains in the morning a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, the deck picnic table and benches were recently stained and the odor had not dissipated. Also, the screw heads on the benches were still wet with stain so we took our meals inside. There was a small bar in the kitchen with two stools which was adequate for two people at dinner, but not three. A living room coffee table was later used for seating at meals: two people on the sofa and me cross-legged on the floor facing them. Not ideal but we managed okay. Overall we enjoyed our stay and soon adapted to our surroundings. There was a serene quietness outdoors and we felt at one with nature and the animals we shared it with. I recommend this unit for people searching for quiet relaxation and privacy.

Great To Unplug

My family and I stayed here while visiting my Parents that have a house up the street. This was perfect for our needs. This is a great cabin that has been around since the 70's. Great recommendations in the book and quiet area. If you are a person that is glued to their phone, you will be forced to unplug here. We did have cell service however it was slow and there is no Wifi. If you like drinking coffee, enjoying the cool mountain mornings and watching deer walk by, then definitely book this for a visit.

Brazos Cabin

My wife and I stayed here to get in some good hiking in the Brazos mountains. When we arrived everything was as expected, but the cabin was nicer than the pictures! During our stay we hiked the CDT from the trailhead at highway 17 and the trailhead at highway 64. Both hikes were wonderful and an easy drive from the cabin. We also went into Chama and enjoyed the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. After a long day on the train it was great to have a short drive back to the cabin. We also walked and hiked around the cabin. We especially liked walking the loops above the cabin as the view of the Brazos cliffs were amazing! I would recommend this cabin for anyone seeking solitude and a great place to venture out from to explore the Chama/Brazos area.

A Pleasant Stay

This is a great location for a couple or small family. The cabin was well set up for our use. Four people could sleep comfortably here and the kitchen can handle feeding that many. There is a deck with beautiful views of the area and you have easy access to a number of activities around Chama. I have recommended the Jag cabin to friends, family, and co-workers.

Everything advertised and MORE!!

We were met by mule deer at the front door upon arrival like they were neighborhood pets. Amazing views of mountains around you. Very nice area with beautiful privately owner cabins and lodges scattered about. Not crowded at all and felt we were the only ones out there. Interior is clean and as advertised. Will definitely stay again!

Very comfortable and quiet.

Really wonderful little cabin. It was as though Tim and Ann anticipated our every need. The wood stove was great and kept us toasty all evening and the supplemental space heaters were more than adequate at night. In addition we had enough blankets and good pillows, nice sheets. Cabin well built. I would stay there again. The only inconvenience was the inability or difficulty of getting a wi-fi signal.

The only reason I gave accuracy of online listing 4 stars was because the pictures really do not do this place justice! It is way cuter in person than online. Had a great time, thank you!
