From the cover of Maine Home and Design, the center cape dates to 1860. Purchased by great grandparents in 1899. "Aldermere" derives from the shore stand of Alder trees and the french word for sea - "la mer”. Carefully renovated in 2008 to a high standard, maintaining the antique look and feel, with 5 bedrooms and modern systems. The elevator between 1st & 2nd floors is very useful for luggage and seniors. A 20' breezeway connects to garage with full apartment over. Climate by geo-exchange - six 400' wells under the back lawn - with wind turbine. 3 acres of lawn give tremendous sense of space and privacy, and views over the bay are grand. Substantial library. We are privately surrounded by Aldermere Farm and our Belted Galloway herd. Outdoor shower. 1895 Baldwin in good tune. History everywhere. Bring your connector to plug in your EV to 50 amps.

Gorgeous!

Astonishing property, lovely historic home with all the bells and whistles, and a most-charming host. We had everything we needed for a family Thanksgiving none of us will forget. Can’t wait to go back!!

Wonderful farmhouse living

Aldermere was more than a pleasure. It was comfortable and a lesson in history all at once. We had the feeling that we were isolated yet we were minutes from town and all we needed. The home had everything we could possibly need for our stay

Aldermere Farm

We had a memorable stay at the Aldemere Farm property over the New Year holiday. Kim and his family have done an incredible job of restoring and preserving their beautiful home. The location is perfect and the scenery is stunning. Kim was especially kind and took our two-year daughter for a little tour of their farm. We highly recommend this property and we hope to return again one day.

Family gathering spot in Camden

The property is very special and the owner represents generations of family that have owned the house. It is one part history tour and one part updated luxury. The house is well located close to everything but just far enough out of town to provide guests a private setting to relax and take in the amazing views.

Perfect week in Maine

We loved our stay at Kim’s beautiful home. The location is perfect, close enough for a day trip to Acadia. The house was beautiful with glorious sunrise views of the bay. Super comfortable with everything we could possibly need. Loved starting and ending our days on the expansive porch and playing with our dog on the huge lawn. Hope to be back next year!!

Beautiful property but somewhat of a museum

This home is stunning in many ways, with fantastic views, and comfortable public spaces, fab kitchen & great porch. However the owner sometimes showed up to do things in the yard, and upon our arrival, required a 1 hr. tour and lecture on the history of the house and exactly where he wanted everything put back in place. We understood his concern, it’s been in his family for over 100 years. It was obvious that he probably lives in this house when not renting it. However when we left in the afternoon for an evening wedding, and left some lights on at the entry point & outdoors to avoid stumbling etc, We were very surprised when we returned & there were no lights on at all. The owner had come in and turned off all those lights when we were gone. So if you were looking for complete privacy, do not rent this property.

A great visit

Aldermere is simply wonderful. The home is loved and loving. Kim is a marvelous host who really cares about his home and those who vacation in it. It has everything one could possibly want/need on a vacation - luxurious bedding, soft fluffy towels, a wonderfully stocked kitchen, soap and tissues in every bathroom, and even an elevator to move luggage from one floor to another. And the view of Penobscot Bay is simply spectacular. We lunched on the expansive deck overlooking the Bay several times. Memories were made there. We are already looking forward to a return visit!

Aldemere review May 2022

We had a great time relaxing at Aldemere for a week with our family of six. It was a beautiful house with an absolutely lovely setting. We played many family board games, played croquet on the lawn, went for walks on the expansive lawn and walks down the quiet, picturesque street that the house is located on. We enjoyed morning coffee on the porch, enjoyed views of the bay, and cooked lots of meals in the owner’s gourmet kitchen. The house was so cozy. My 18 and 20 year old children played piano for hours providing entertainment for both them and us. The house was sprawling with space for everyone. The master shower was amazing and was favored by all. I would stay here again- a very good place to spend a week relaxing. The host was readily available for any questions we had before and during our stay. Additionally, he had put together a very helpful and thorough list of local shopping, food and entertainment which we used as a guide on almost every outing.

Perfect vacation experience!

Just finished a wonderful, peaceful getaway at this beautiful heritage home. The echos of previous generations blended seamlessly with modern amenities (including an elevator, awesome steam shower in one of the bathrooms, heating/AC, chef’s kitchen, beautiful linens, much more). We have travelled extensively and I have rarely, if ever, encountered a kitchen so beautifully stocked with everything a home chef might need to cook just about anything and set a beautiful table. Loved the interior decor and art, also greatly enjoyed the geese across the street, cow conversations nearby and the occasional curious wild turkey. Nights were perfectly quiet with many stars. Also loved the vintage grand piano and playing croquet on the expansive lawn. Location outstanding, close to everything in central Main while providing a private and peaceful refuge to return to after the day’s explorations.. Many thanks to Kim for being the consummate host, it was a pleasure! This stay was a wonderful experience, we hope to return.

Fantastic Home and Location

Aldermere is a beautiful home on an amazing property on Penobscot Bay in Rockport. The house is beautifully appointed with multiple rooms for gracious living and a well outfitted kitchen. We were here from Thanksgiving till the end of January, and the variations of the view of the ocean made everyday an adventure. We understand why so many artists come to Maine Kim is a welcoming, attentive host, eager to see that our stay was comfortable He was communicative and responsive to our queries. His recommendations for local cuisine and daily needs were spot on. This was the perfect place for our lengthy holiday gathering.

Overall we enjoyed our time with family. The house is very historic and in need of updated plumbing, toilets and sinks. The owner is extremely emotionally attached. to the house but nice. The check-in process was lengthy (90 min) to be exact and we had been traveling for 9 hours. Owner also requires a walk thru prior to leaving. There are a lot of rules during the guest stay. Great views of bay and super nice back yard. The location is great and short drive to Camden.

Peace and Plenty at Aldermere

The heritage house of Kim Chatfield in Rockport contained the echoes of many generations who have lived there. Most windows have a long view out onto the blue Penobscot Bay. Sailboats and islands fill in the picture. Modern appliances and dream-inducing beds play counterpoint to historic pictures, books and clocks. A well-stocked kitchen overlooks a comfy family room, with views out to a well-manicured lawn and the sea beyond. Belted Galloway cows, Oreos with hooves, graze contentedly on the family property. Quirky additions like an elevator and a dual-purpose Libratorium bring whimsy to the home, and a long covered porch facing the water can involve hours of sea-gazing. An original, steep stairway in the heart of the home requires concentration as you ascend and descend. This is an historical gem in the quiet village of Rockport.

Amazing Stay

Kim, our host was terrific. Great care was given to our comfort and enjoyment of Aldemere, Camden and Rockport. Exceptional getaway

Wonderful time! Gorgeous home and views. Very comfortable and thoughtful detail to renters stay. It does not feel like a rental home and you want for nothing. Close to town and many beautiful spots to visit nearby. Kim very attentive and his guide to the area is priceless.

Very comfortable family home!

We had a wonderful week at Aldermare! The owner was available and very informative sharing the history of the home. Such a special location with beautiful views. Close to Camden and Rockport. Plenty of room for all of us to spread out with infants and toddlers and still come together and enjoy each other’s company! We hope to return next year!

Perfect Family Getaway

We had the opportunity to stay at Aldermere with my parents and sister’s family for a mini family reunion. The house is absolutely charming and even better than the pictures would suggest. We loved spending time in the open kitchen and living area as well as outdoors with an expansive backyard and view of the water. The bedrooms and bathrooms were large and very comfortable and our older kids loved staying in the attached apartment. The air conditioning and wifi were perfect and great for those who had a working vacation. The location is close to wonderful restaurants in Rockport, and our favorite activities were visiting the Belties each day and going for bike rides into Camden (very close by) or around Rockport. Kim gave a great overview of the house’s history, and it made the stay even more memorable. Kim’s recommendations also helped us find several activities from museums to sailing and fishing and food options that were perfect for our group. We loved our time at Aldermere and look forward to visiting again!

Classic Maine Property

Aldermere is a quintessential Maine summer estate, with extensive meadow and water views. The property, owned by the Chatfield family for over a century, is ideally located between Camden and Rockport, making it convenient to shop, sail out of either port, and enjoy the fine restaurants of both. The estate is beautifully maintained with manicured lawns surrounding the house, perfect for croquet, flying kites or any of the other activities available from the "play" bins. The house itself combines the best of traditional Maine architecture, being built in 1898, with the contemporary elements of a fine home due to a recent renovation. Aldermere is beautifully and tastefully furnished, filled with antiques collected by the Chatfields over the past century, but curated by the owner's wife who is an interior designer. The kitchen is equipped for serious cooking and the porch is ideal for a lobster feast, having coffee in the morning, or simply staring at Penobscot Bay just beyond the stone wall. Having said this, the finest feature of the property is the host, Kim Chatfield. Kim could not have been more gracious, informative, helpful, or fun. He would stop by every few days to maintain the estate and check to see that all was going well. We always enjoyed his visits and appreciated his humor, interesting conversation, knowledge of the area, and recommendations as to restaurants, activities, etc. We enjoyed everything about our 3 week stay at Aldermere so much so that we are planning to stay a month next year. We could not recommend Aldermere more highly.

Wonderful Stay at a Beautiful House in an Incomparable Setting

We had a wonderful stay at Aldermere. The house is beautiful, comfortable, and a terrific place to spend a few days or longer. The location cannot be beat, and the views are spectacular. Kim was a gracious host, responsive and very helpful. We cannot wait to return!
