Great owners and we loved the space for the 15 of us, plus two dogs. The beach was perfect and we spent most of our time outside; boating, swimming, fishing, and just enjoying each others company.
We had four families - eight adults and seven kids, one of the kids a crawling infant. The Lodge is set up for groups like this. The lower level has two bedrooms, a living room and kitchen with a game room that overlooks the beach. The main level has a big suite at one end with a queen bed, bunk beds and sofa. The rest of this level has a large living room, two dining areas, a kitchen and a small bedroom (like crab-walk around the bed small).. The upper level has three rooms with a total of seven single beds. The Host does not provide sheets or towels so you have to bring these, even dishtowels which was surprising. There's a dishwasher but it wasn't connected, so the lack of dishtowels was a problem until we got out to the store the next day. The setting is very nice, dock access and a sandy beach with a platform to swim out to . We had our dog along, and he loved playing in the water, too. There's lots of room for the kids to play. All in all, we had a great time.
We really enjoyed our stay at Scott and Mary's!! The Lodge on Lake Washburn is so much fun. It reminded me of my childhood at the lake where the whole community hangs out and enjoys each other's company for a fun filled weekend.
loved the beach and being able to rent the pontoon

Overpriced and needs some renovation and cleaning…
I’ll keep this simple, direct and candid. Here are the pros and cons.
Pros
-View of the lake was beautiful and the surrounding area was beautiful
-3 separate cooking spaces and with plenty of room to make meals.
-Three separate sleeping areas. Two on the main floor, one one in the basement. There’s also 7 beds in the attic.
-Plenty of seating and gathering areas throughout the cabin
-Your own dock area with a decent beach to fish from
-Two decent fire pit areas
-2 canoes to use first come first serve
Cons
-Each room is very cluttered. Lots of unnecessary pieces of furniture and overall just a lot of junk everywhere.
-The most important thing to know is that is cabin does not have air conditioner. It made our stay nearly unbearable as we went in the summer. It was deceiving for it to say it had air conditioning but in reality it did not.
-You have to bring your own bedding, towels, pillows, garbage bags and paper towels.
-Door was wide open when we arrived. Bottom sliding door doesn’t have a lock. You can slide a board In to lock it when you are there but if you leave, you have yo leave it unlocked because it’s the only working door to the basement.
-Lots of old, random things everywhere throughout the house. Empty suit cases and other random stuff.
-Cupboards had a lot of junk in them and we found mouse poop in multiple cupboards and other areas through out the house.
-Duct taped areas throughout covering up mouse holes or just being used as a quick fix without actually repairing.
-No way to enter the basement without going outside
-Overall, not very clean. The floor felt grimy and the leather couches were visibly dirty and grimy and actually had a bad smell to them.
-Broken equipment and chairs on the beach and very unkempt boat house.
-Not clear what lake toys are free to use or not
-Pontoon is extra and it has a broken gas gauge making it impossible to know when you are going to run out of gas.
-Beer boxes and garbage out front
-Dirty rugs sitting out front on the deck.
-Beach is decent but also has leeches and grass is long and unmanicured
-Overall overpriced for what you get
-Dumpster was completely full and garbage was everywhere around it from raccoons and bears getting into it.
-Not enough fans to stay cool
-Overly cluttered and not enough space to put your stuff
-Lots of light bulbs are burned out or just didn’t work
Our family had a fun week out on the lake. It was nice to find a place to accommodate our entire group of 12 and have multiple kitchens for families to cook on their own. The communication from the owners was superb!
Accommodations were great! Plenty of room for the entire family to have their own space and bed to sleep in. The lower level was large enough for the family to hang out in, play games and eat family meals together. We really enjoyed our stay!
Great for a large family. We only had 8 people and we were able to comfortably spread out. The listing states it would sleep 15 and it definitely would, even if everyone had their own bed. The three separate kitchens made it easy for 3 families to spread out and keep their own food separate. We rented the pontoon for our entire 5 night stay.. The gas gauge was stuck on full, so we had to pay attention, but it otherwise worked great. There are a few sand bars on the lake which made great spots to stop, swim, play water games, as well as a beach on the property if you don't want to venture out. There was no TV and internet was sketchy, but that was fine with us as it allowed us to unplug and spend time with family (we did listen to Twins games on the radio every day though!). The downstairs level has a big porch with ping pong and fuseball.
We spent most evenings down there playing games and hanging out. The owners, Mary and Scott, were easy to get in touch with and very helpful in providing tips and other useful information. They also own the place next door, which is smaller, but looks very nice. We will definitely keep both places in mind for future getaways!

Fourth of July vacation
The boat parade was amazing. Lake Washburn is a Great Lake for swimming, water sports and fishing. Make sure their pontoon boat is available and running and what the cost will be to you.. We had to provide all of our own boats for the whole week.
We rented Birch Bay Lodge with two other families. There was enough room for all adults to have their own rooms, kids loved the upstairs room and there was even sleeping open for more than our 11 people. Game room in the lower level can in handy at night when the mosquitoes came out. The owners were extremely accommodating! The lodge is on an amazing lake with quiet surroundings. We had an amazingly fun and relaxing trip there!
Spacious, picturesque, family friendly, amigable owners and neighbors. The best deal for a busy Fourth of July weekend... Mary , Bruce and Scotty, Thank you again for your hospitality. We will definitely keep you in mind for our next getaway!
