About this property

French Farm House Near St Emilion Built In 1860 With The Charm Of The Vineyards

Nestled between Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, Bastide St Pierre lies in a part of the world as much famed for its beauty, tranquility and verve as for its wine, cuisine and rolling vineyards. This elegant house built in 1860 in local French limestone has been lovingly renovated & restored (2014) over the last 2 years keeping both it's original Gironde charm with added modern convenience. The main bedroom has an Emperor size bed with large ensuite bathroom with 3 King size beds in an additional 3 bedrooms & 2 double beds in the fifth bedroom. The interior has a modern 65 sq metre kitchen that should accommodate the most demanding gourmet chef. All the rooms are of grand proportions so there is a wonderful sense of space that retains the elegance & grandeur of the vineyard owners who built the house during the reign of Napoleon III. The area is surrounded by the bustling local markets and antique fairs; to relaxing, with a glass of local premier grand cru in hand, on a local café terrace; to experiencing the history and wonder of the Unesco World heritage sites of Saint Emilion which is just over 10 minutes away driving through the some of the worlds greatest vineyards, the exciting city of Bordeaux just 45 minutes away by car. You are 10 minutes away from the beautiful market town of Libourne where you should visit on one of 3 market days when you will experience the idyllic charm of an authentic French food market. Farther a field you have the Unesco world heritage town of Cognac (1 hour 15 minute drive) & towards the coast you have the fascinating town of the Archachon & the famed Dune de Pyla (again 1 hour 15 minute drive). You are 10 minutes drive from some of the worlds most famous Chateaus such as Chateau Petrus & Cheval Blanc. For wine lovers who wish to travel farther a field the Haut Medoc and Sauterne regions are both within a reasonably short drive. In addition you border the Dordogne & are 45 minutes from Perigeaux & Bergerac with Sarlat de la Canada being 1 hour 15 minutes away. If you love relaxing, the best food & wine there are a lifetime of choices available. Lastly make sure there's room in your bags to take a few bottles back !

Beautiful farmhouse and garden

We were two families with adult children and had an amazing week at the house. Sonia was incredible with her communication and information on the house and area. We absolutely loved all the different eating areas in the garden and the house is beautiful and really comfortable. We will definitely be coming back😊

Fantastic Accomodations and Location

Sonia and Saul's home in St. Denis de Pile is exceptional and as advertised. It is an easy location to get to St. Emilion, Libourne and Bordeaux . We experinced great wine tasting on the left and right banks and found the location to a nearby Boulangerie and Inter Marche grocery to be ideal. The home is lovely and accomodated 3 couples easily. The internet service is fantastic and communication with Sonia was easy. She and her house keeper even went out of their way to overnight some personal items we left behind. We would rate out stay at the highest level and would not hesitate to return. 10 star!

Outstanding Experience!

We are a family group of eight adults and we found this lovingly reconstructed bastide near St. Emilion perfect in every way. The building has been renovated beautifully reflecting its historical roots and incorporating modern creature comforts. From the huge, superbly equipped kitchen to the large comfortable bedrooms, no detail has been overlooked. The property is very large and private and includes among many wonderfull details an artfully rebuilt ruin equipped with some easy chairs, a dining table and chairs allowing for wonderfull al fresco dining. We enjoyed this space often. As a group, we have rented many large villas throughout Europe and each one was excellent in their own ways. Despite this long history of staying at great properties I can safely say that this bastide and the care and level of service provided by the owner, Sonia, provided us an unparalleled experience. In short, I recommend this property very, very highly. At twice the price we paid it would still be a bargain. Thank you Sonia.

Sublime

I stayed at this beautiful property for 2 weeks with friends and family to celebrate my 50th birthday, and it was the holiday of a lifetime. Sonia was the perfect host, answering questions promptly and providing the best recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area. We visited Bordeaux, St. Emilion, Libourne, Cadillac, Cognac and other towns, but spent most of our time relaxing and enjoying fine wine, food and company at the house which is just stunning. Sonia has done an incredible job restoring the property, balancing its history with modern and luxurious accommodations. There are so many areas of the house to enjoy: morning coffee and croissants on the patio, lazy afternoons by the pool, dinners in the outside pavilion. I loved cooking in the extremely well appointed kitchen as the space opens up onto the patio. Others enjoyed the cool front rooms to read/doze. The pool is just heavenly and all the bedrooms and bathrooms are charming. The local boulangerie/pâtisserie is wonderful, and in addition to the market in Libourne, the local supermarket met all our needs. Cycling/driving through the local vineyards was so picturesque, and we were even lucky enough to see the Tour de France zoom past. This was a dream vacation for me, creating so many wonderful memories that we will all treasure. I couldn’t have been happier.

SIX STARS !

Bastide St. Pierre is as good as it gets ! (And we’ve rented a LOT of places over years of travelling). From the reservation process to the end of our stay , Sonia and Saul always responded quickly and fully , even sharing and accentuating our joy in living for 2 weeks in this wonderful property. The building is wonderfully restored , FULLY equipped and very tastefully and warmly decorated. We got great use out of so much that is offered : the rooms , the equipment, fireplaces, books, manual provided for guests, pool , pavilion ,patio and even the odd DVD. Nothing in the place was not for our use.Not to mention visits to villages , restaurants and wineries, many suggested by Sonia and Saul. Finally , a history of the acquisition of Bastide St.Pierre, complete with “ before” pix , made us fully aware and appreciative of the rather incredible accomplishment of transforming a rundown 1860 building into our magnificent accommodation. We can’t thank our owners enough for this experience. Our only disappointment is that we can’t give more than 5 stars .

Fabuleux

Marvelous experience in the French Countryside.

We had a family group of three generations from 69 to 1 years of age. The property is amazingly lovely and spacious, beautifully furnished and elegantly appointed. Elegance and comfort combined, historical charm with the best of modern comforts. Early October found us using the nicely warmed pool, a great kid-centric activity after outings of sightseeing and wine tasting. The backyard offered charm, tranquility, and oodles of space for kids to play. The pool cover was particularly safe and secure, and this was a concern for us as we had toddlers in the group. Easy access to many fun markets, a Boulangerie & Patisserie very close by with lovely, quiet country lanes to walk or bike from the front door. Sonia was most responsive to our every question and request. We felt that we experienced great hospitality and the very best of French country life here at Bastide St. Pierre.

Beautiful Chateau

We had an excellent week staying at Sonia's property. The house is in a fantastic region of France, ideally located both for peace and quiet, but equally easy to get to pituresque towns and cities. The house itself is beautiful, everything has been carefully considered and provided. Sonia is an excellent host, very obliging and easy to contact. We are looking forward to coming back soon!

Fabulous spacious house, amazing location, hope to be back!

This house is wonderful, really spacious unlike lots of other holiday rentals. Beautifully decorated. Lovely pool, I often don’t swim as I find it too cold but this was just perfect. Huge garden with lots of outdoor dining space. The lady who owns the place is really helpful and responsive and clearly passionate about making sure you enjoy your trip. Located really close (maybe 10 mins drive ish) to st emilion which is beautiful to visit and no shortage of amazing vineyards to visit too and also a brilliant lake beach about 15 mins away which my children absolutely loved. Truly something for everyone. Hope to be back soon!

Just stunning

An absolutely stunning chateau in idyllic surroundings. We stayed here with a mixed group of other couples and families and had an amazing time - the huge garden offers children the freedom to explore safely and we had so much fun in the heated pool. Evenings on the patio or under the chandelier in the pavilion were gorgeous and made for an experience none of us will forget. The charming owners have put a lot of TLC into renovating this grand chateau into the perfect holiday home, and it shows. The house itself is huge with beautiful decor and exceptionally well appointed, yet homely and welcoming. Every bedroom is luxurious, with large comfy beds and top quality bed linen, and the master bedroom and huge en-suite with bath is honeymoon-standard romantic. The surrounding area includes all the best things that rural France has to offer, from quaint villages and rolling vineyards to fine restaurants and activities such as a local amusement park and Dagueys lake with clean beach area and water inflatables. Would definitely recommend for families or couples for the ultimate in luxury and relaxation.

Absolutely fabulous holiday!

My family and I stayed at this amazing villa for a glorious two weeks. It is spacious, well-equipped, and absolutely beautiful. The house had everything we needed for our stay. It is clear that the owners are very thoughtful people as they had definitely thought of everything you would need for a true home away from home. The surrounding area is also very beautiful and the amenities nearby are great. We must have visited the boulangerie every day! I know that there are photos of the house on the website, but they really do not do it justice.....seeing it in person it looks and feels even more amazing. The children loved swimming in the pool, and the fact that it is heated made it even easier to venture in (at the end of October!). The house is also a short drive from St Emilion which is such a beautiful little town, as well as Libourne. We followed the owners' advice on places to visit: Perigueux and Bordeaux to name a couple and were not disappointed. We would definitely stay here again (or live here if we could!)

Magnificent....and perfect!

My husband and I, and another couple, stayed in the Bastide for 5 days in September. We were on a 3 week trip in France, mostly staying in hotels. What good fortune for the four of us to have found this truly remarkable 'farmhouse' near Bordeaux. Sonia and Saul have taken painstaking steps (for a 3 year project) to create an amazing home in the middle of the most gorgeous area of France. The location is absolutely perfect for day trips...Bordeaux, the wonderful market day in Libourne, and of course a trip to St. Emilion. Vinegards, Wineries and chateaus to visit everywhere.... perfect to explore by bike or car. All just minutes away. But truly, why go anywhere? The house is divine! It has been restored with such love and good taste, you feel like you are in a magazine. The furnishings and decor are gorgeous, and the linens are exquisite. They recently put in a fabulous pool, which was such a treat at the end or start of the day. The kitchen was beautifully stocked with everything you need to make great meals....and if it is not market day at one of the nearby towns, there is a great supermarket and boulangerie just a couple minutes away. Sonia and Saul are fabulous hosts, and have thought of everything. There is a manual at Bastide to answer all questions and give ideas on excursions and restaurants. Great ideas! It was perfect for us in September......but I believe it would be exquisite and comfortable anytime of the year.

Beautiful home in a great location for visiting all of Bordeaux!

We loved the spacious rooms, tastefully decorated, and the modern new kitchen equipped with all we needed to cook our own dinners. The heated pool and large outdoor dining area were a delightful addition to the house itself. The hosts are extremely welcoming and uick to reply to any questions, supplied us with all the information we could possibly need regarding the house, local attractions, restaurants and so on. Many thanks Sonia!!

Awesome stay

Bastide St Pierre is incredible. This is definitely the perfect place to stay. Sonia & Saul gave us a fantastic host and clear instructions for getting to the house and emailed us a helpful Guide and superb recommendations on where to eat, places to shop and sights to see. The house is beautifully furnished and spacious with particular attention to all the details for the best comfort. Great, super clean pool and well equipped kitchen. The master bedroom and bathroom are big and very luxurious - just amazing. We enjoyed barbecuing and relaxing at the huge back yard and the old barn. Couldn’t have been better. Thank you so much Sonia & Saul

Beautiful house, great size garden and the perfect pool

The house is fabulous and has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The rooms are divine and look like they belong in an interiors magazine. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. The new pool is a perfect size and was a lovely temperature and well looked after throughout our stay. The house is a short drive (definitely need a car) to Bakery (5mins), Intermarche, Pharmacy, Vet, Doctor (8/10mins) and so many great places to visit (St. Emilion, Libourne (15/20 mins) and then slightly further afield Bordeaux and Bergerac) and there are lovely walks and cycles around the vineyards close by. What made this holiday extra special and completely stress-free are the amazing owners Sonia and Saul. From the moment we booked the house Sonia was very generous with her time, answering all our questions and providing so much wonderful information about the area, we planned pretty much our whole holiday on her wonderful suggestions. Also, the incredibly detailed house manual meant we didn't have to spend the first few days trying to figure everything out! I would recommend this house to anyone - a group of friends, families with older kids, families with younger kids, families with grandparents (handy bedroom ensuite on the ground floor) or if you are looking for a romantic escape or even going on your own as you are surrounded by lovely neighbours and would feel safe.
