Lovely

The home was a very clean and comfortable home base for our Redwoods adventures. We cooked most of our meals there and everything worked smoothly. The spiral staircase may not be appropriate for very young kids or those with limited mobility but it was fine for our family. We appreciated the very responsive caretaker team!

Perfect location in the redwoods national and state parks

The home was perfect weekend get away. It had everything I needed to enjoy the beautiful scenic view of the deck and Redwoods national parks. I tried one of the Pizza restaurant recommended in the welcome binder and it had a great vibe and the food was excellent. If I’m ever in the area again I would stay again.

I liked it a lot

Lovely view of the river. We spent a lot of time on the patio watching birds. The water was clear and we went swimming and kayaking directly from the property. Close enough to town to be convenient but far enough away that it felt private. You can see one of the neighbors from the back porch, but it still felt like a private experience. We didn’t see any of the infamous ants that were mentioned in the guest book or other reviews. Overall, great stay and I’d love to go again!

Beautiful and Quiet

Beautiful view of the Smith River in a quiet surrounding. The circular stair to the lower-level bedroom may not be for small children.

Right on the Water

Great property on riverside. Close to redwood parks (and some on property!). Phone service spotty, but it's rural and private. Internet went out for a day, but is was an area outage, not a home issue.

Nice home with a gorgeous view!

The house was clean and the view from the back deck was spectacular! We were very close to the beaches in Crescent City, as well as redwood forests. It felt very secluded and private, which was really nice. The listing mentioned the spiral staircase to the lower level bedroom and bathroom. It was fine for our family, but could be an issue for some. The listing also mentioned kayaks, but there was only 1 pretty inexpensive kayak in the garage. If you are on a river and mention kayaks, I think you should have a couple of decent kayaks for people to enjoy getting on the water. Overall, we would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to see the Pacific Northwest!

Cool house at great spot on Smith River

The view of the Smith River from the house’s 2nd story deck was great. We enjoyed swimming and wading in the river. The furniture and beds were all very comfortable. It was quite warm during our stay, so A/C would be nice, but not absolutely necessary. The ground floor stayed cool/comfortable and the evening breeze cooled off the upstairs at night.

Great Getaway

Great location, close enough to town and far enough for privacy. The house is beautiful as well as the newly renovated areas. There is some normal wear, however it is well maintained. If you are OCD looking for anything, you can always find something. The plumbing/water works great. The only thing that didn’t work well for my wife and I is both mattresses were very firm, however good quality.

Quaint and Cozy

This is an older home that gives a sense of nostalgia. The view of the river was exceptional. We had a slight problem with the water pressure; however, the landlord's response was swift and it did not impede our vacation. They have notes around the house that are very helpful. One was about ants which helped us ensure we did not attract any. Overall, our family loved the house and would return.

Beautiful location, would visit again

Spent a week here and had a great time. The house is absolutely beautiful, loved the deck overlooking the river. Would 100% stay here again. However, the kitchen’s cleanliness was lacking (the provided spices were really sticky, some cups were not clean, but the rest of the house was spotless), and it was a challenge communicating with the owner/manager about pre-existing damages (it is a Vacasa-managed property). Additionally, a neighbor’s dog runs loose in the neighborhood and came onto the property several times, which made taking my dogs out a bit concerning. Managed to not interact with the dog at all so it wasn’t too big of an issue but something to be aware of for other dog owners visiting.

Neighbor's dog ruined the stay ☹️😣

The house was great, views were stunning, BUT the neighbors and their dog were awful!!! I could not keep their dog from constantly coming onto the Vacasa property. On the second day, while my dog was exploring the yard, the neighbor's dog came over and aggressively attacked my dog!! I got mine safely away from the other dog (pitbull/mix), the owners were outside with their children and did nothing! I contacted Vacasa right away and reported the incident. I was told there wasn't anything that Vacasa could do to help, that it was between me and the neighbor. I then wrote an e-mail to Vacasa, explaining the incident and the issue with the dog and no fence between the properties. The local sheriff's department responded and the dog aggressively attacked his night stick when he went there! Even after the owners were told warned to keep their dog in the yard, the dog never stopped coming over, even the next day it came over three (3) more times. I grew tired and stressed of having to keep my dog locked up, with only the upper deck for access to outside, so I left my trip a day early. 😢

Clean and spacious

My sisters and I were very happy with our 4 night stay. Lots of natural light in the living room, great deck, everything was super clean and new. Even a big washer and dryer. We used headlamps in the kitchen to prepare supper - just one very dim overhead lamp - and a couple of other quirks in the house, but nothing that interfered with enjoying our stay. Note: Be careful if you have small dogs or crawling babies. We built a temporary “wall” around the hole in the floor where the spiral stairs emerge, or our blind dachshund would have fallen through to the first floor. The only negative for me is that this isn’t really a VRBO rental. It’s VaCasa. I’m still trying to figure out how to contact the property manager about a few things. (Ex. Directions said to leave garbage and recyclables in bins, but there were no bins. Left bags in garage instead.) VaCasa also has a complicated rental process. After you get a confirmation email, be on the lookout for further emails asking you to confirm your identity. Your confirmation isn’t necessarily confirmed! Fortunately I gave my email a last glance before I left for vacation. Then none of the links in the VaCasa email or phone app worked, but I googled a phone number and an agent helped me. Thank goodness! But nerve-racking. The rental was great. The process to get it was stressful. And communication is bad - all due to how VaCasa works. But the rental house itself was just perfect for us!

Beware of the stairs!!!

This house is cute and spacious. The kitchen is very nicely stocked, and the bedrooms are decently updated. Our stay was overall okay, with just two exceptions. The stairs are dangerous, in my opinion. It’s a metal spiral staircase leading down to the lower level. The staircase has missing bolts, is uneven in places, and does not have non-skid plates on each step. Last evening, one person in our party slipped and fell down the last 6 stairs and injured herself, requiring a doctors attention. We were not drinking (we don’t drink), nor was she wearing socks. The owner needs to resolve this potentially dangerous situation before someone gets seriously hurt. A liability issue for sure. Also, the cleanliness was just okay. All visible surfaces seemed clean at first, but after staying here for 3 days we came across areas that were definitely missed by the housekeeping service. There was two pairs of assumably dirty underwear under the bed downstairs. The floor mats (white) are dirty looking in the bathrooms. We wondered if they were washed, and in this season of Covid we expected everything g to be super clean and sanitized. The bedspread in the upstairs bedroom was stained, and I had to brush dirt(?) off the sheets when we turned the bed down at night. Yuck. Again, nice location, cute house, and it met our needs. But we were not happy with the two issues mentioned above. I’m happy to discuss with the owners if necessary.
