New modern rustic cabin that backs up to Grayson Highlands State Park. Be prepared for stargazing and cool refreshing nights. Minutes from Grayson Highlands State Park and the Creeper Trail. All the modern conveniences in a rural setting.
The cabin is a traditional full dovetail Appalachian cabin constructed of white pine. The cabin is around 600 ft.² with a full bathroom, full kitchen/dining area, loft bedroom area. The structure has a covered vaulted front porch and rear porch. There are many amenities to make the guest feel more at home Including towels, linens for the beds, soap/shampoo, cooking utensils, pots/pans and anything else you would need for cooking a good meal. We have a Weber kettle grill on the back porch for grilling out as well. In addition, we provide complementary coffee and a bundle of firewood for the outdoor pit.
The cabin is located in a beautiful spot at approximately 4000 feet elevation. Due to the elevation, temperatures are typically much cooler than the surrounding areas. It is recommended to bring a jacket even in the warmer months. Due to the close proximity to Grayson Highlands State Park, you may occasionally see a wild pony wondering to the property. There’s bountiful wildlife around the property including deer, turkey, many bird species and the occasional bear.
The road to the cabin is a state maintained gravel road. Although a 2wd car/truck will work fine, we recommend a 4wd if possible due to the steep nature of the road. The Virginia Department of transportation (VDOT) does a fantastic job of keeping the access to the cabin in good shape.

This cabin ended up being a great place for a family vacation (kids 9 and 5). The kitchen was well supplied with everything we needed to prepare meals, and I was happy to see a gas grill instead of the charcoal grill described in the listing. The gravel drive to get to the cabin is steep, but our 2-wheel-drive SUV made it with no problems. I can see how it might be a tricky in bad weather, though. We spent most of our time hiking at nearby Grayson Highlands State Park, but we also really enjoyed the cabin's location/views, yard, and firepit. It's a great place to hang out with kids in the evening, roasting marshmallows and watching for shooting stars (which we saw every night). I'd definitely recommend this cabin, especially for couples.
This place was perfect for a getaway to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the grind. We saw multiple deer each day and enjoyed the beauty of the area. Grayson Highlands State Park nearby. The owners were very helpful when we had questions.

Great little cabin if you are visiting the Grayson Highlands/Mt Rogers area (one of my favorite places to hike). Would make a perfect basecamp for day hikes and exploring or an excellent place to rest after backpacking. As noted, a 4x4 is a good idea, certainly if it's been raining or snow. But it's just the last bit of the driveway that is steep. Lovely place, will be back.
Very nice stay at this property - nicely equipped little cabin with everything you need for a weekend getaway to visit Grayson Highlands State Park, section hike the AT, or bike on the Virginia Creeper trail.
Two things that other travelers should note, one that was listed on the listing and one that was not:
- It is mentioned in the listing, but the cabin is up a well-maintained but fairly steep gravel road. I felt reasonably comfortable in my car (not a 4x4 by any means) but I could see it being challenging in bad weather or if travelers are less comfortable with gravel roads.
- A bit of a quirk - this cabin does not have a traditional overhead shower, only a deep standalone tub with a sprayer attachment. Maybe not a big deal for some if you are using the cabin for a romantic getaway, but personally would have preferred a shower.
Other than those things, it was an awesome property and I would wholeheartedly recommend.
This was a perfect cabin getaway! Close proximity to some amazing hikes, extremely clean, and had everything we would ever need. Jon was also very quick to respond when I had a quick question. The fireflies were simply magical in the evening and we were lucky enough to see a beautiful fox run through the yard one night-it looked straight out of a storybook. We will definitely recommend to others looking for a place to stay in the area, and we would definitely stay here again! Thank you Jon and Marlene!
We really enjoyed this "tiny cabin." It's very well laid out and outfitted for two (or maybe as many as four?) people. We loved watching the fireflies around the firepit. And it was very easy from there to get into Grayson Highlands state parks for some very nice day hikes.
The cabin was exactly as pictured and described. We enjoyed lots of time by the fire pit and on the front porch. We’d definitely return! Thanks for a great stay.
This cabin was AMAZING. Beautiful location and so easy to get to Grayson Highlands and West Jefferson. We plan to definitely come back! Just wonderful!!
This is an absolutely beautiful cabin with great proximity to Grayson Highlands State Park and surrounding open space. We did several stunning hikes during our stay, and only wished we had more time. The cabin is spotless, and feels like it’s brand new. It has everything you need, including super fast WiFi. The natural setting of the cabin is beautiful and quiet so we ate every meal outdoors on the porch or around the fire pit. This rental definitely has our top recommendation.
We had a great stay at this charming cabin. We arrived shortly after a rain storm with plans to enjoy the firepit and to our surprise found the patio chairs had been dried off recently. From the details and amenities at the cabin to the great communication with the owners, the hospitality was exceptional! Thank you for sharing your cabin with us!
We booked this cabin for a quiet stay while we hiked in the Greyson highlands to see the wild ponies. It was wonderful, quiet, and so nice, especially at night around the fire pit!
Our family absolutely loved our stay in your cosy cabin & especially enjoyed the wood-burner fire. It was a little noisy in the middle of the night because there was a power cut & the generator kicked in! Not to be helped but slightly less sleep than we’d hoped for. Jon was very prompt at getting back to our messages & overall we’d definitely stay in this wonderful cabin again.
Beautiful log cabin tucked in the hills of Virginia!!! Be prepared with 4wd, if you would like to park at the cabin. Although there is a place to park within a short walk of the cabin that is easily accessible with 2wd. We had an amazing time! Thanks Jon for all you did to make our stay enjoyable!!!

The area is beautiful and the cabin seems very well maintained. Love it!
We enjoyed an amazing stay at Cozy Cabin in the Mountains of Virginia. During the day we adventured through all that near by Grayson state park has to offer and Relaxed outdoors in the Adirondack chairs while the crackling fire kept us warm in the evening. After stargazing the clear dark night sky we retired to soft comfortable beds.
We will definitely be booking future trips to this secluded retreat
My partner and I stayed at the property and absolutely loved it. The place was very clean minus the floors being a little dusty but honestly it wasn't that bad we just chose to wear our socks around the cabin. The complimentary wood pile was very well appreciated and enjoyed. Word of the wise there is NO cell service about a hour before you get to the cabin so make sure youve got your navigation pulled up prior, and have a wifi based call and text service (like what's app) that you can use to call and text people if you rely on having cell service to call or text because the wifi was amazing with no issues or lags. The air was amazing in the mountains and my partner and I took a trip up to the state park which was BEAUTIFUL. I would recommend staying here for anyone who wants to get away for a bit. Make sure to pack some snacks.
We loved this cabin. This time we stayed just as we were passing through to meet some friends in Tennessee but we intend to return and use this cabin as home base for riding on the Creeper Trail, seeing the horses and relaxing by fire pit. It’s very remote and peaceful and the tub is wonderful. I had a 1 and 3 year old with me and should’ve brought baby gate to protect my own peace more but loved it nonetheless.
We stayed for a weekend and found it to be mostly enjoyable. We appreciated the remote location and ease of check in and check out. The beds were comfortable and seemed clean. The tankless water heater was also a nice surprise. Wish more locations had that. The internet speed was quick and easy to connect to. The fire pit and sitting area was nicely put together and enjoyable to sit in. We brought our own wood but a small amount was provided free if needed.
Though it wasn't all perfect. Some additional cleaning could be warranted. Frequent interaction surfaces such as cabinet handles, refrigerator doors, stove knobs, toilet flush button, and remotes were all a bit dirty and greasy. The ash in the fire pit hadn't been emptied in some time and the hood over the stove had a lot of splatter.
And while I understand their purpose, and can't say I blame the owners for it, the cameras were uncomfortable. There is a camera on each porch, front and rear that looks towards the seating and grilling areas as well as the fire pit. There was also a camera on the far side of the house covering the backup generator and paid wood storage that looked towards the house and towards the kitchen and living room windows. It may or may not have been able to see into those windows but it made us uncomfortable at minimum. It's difficult to fully relax when you feel like you could be being watched.
But overall we enjoyed our stay and felt the cabin was a good value.
One of the best experiences for our family. Even though it rained a lot during our stay, we had so much fun in the house. I have AWD car so I didn’t have any problem driving through the gravel road even in heavy rain conditions. The cabin is located within just 15-20 min drive from Grayson Highlands state park. We will be going back again.
