Location is perfect for morning sunrise. Dolphin sightings from the deck of house. Lots of sea shells, star fish to see. House is right on the beach. Beds comfortable. Bathrooms spacious. KItchen had nice cookware and dinnerware. We used the grill frequently- note that is charcoal not gas. We used the grocery delivery service recommended with Antoine — He was great and went above and beyond - produce that they picked was all very good. Would highly recommend his service
An exceptional experience from start to finish. The owner is easy to communicate with and reached out to us a few times before we arrived for very minor changes in amenities due to the hurricane season. Laurie from Tortuga Management was amazing, just a text away for anything we needed and a great resource to a few quirks on the island (it was our first visit) It was an escape from the rat race that we all needed, everyone we met was super friendly and the slower pace was very welcome. We brought a bunch of groceries with us (highly recommend) but also used the Tortuga Grocery service which was so easy! We had chartered a boat to Cabbage Key for a cheeseburger in paradise and Antone delivered the groceries, put them away and had it all set for our return. We spent most of our days right in front of Sanderella wading in the water, watching the fish and counting starfish but did head over to sunset beach (appropriately named) for a more quintessential ocean experience with bigger waves etc. We also did one day at the pool at the island club - again super friendly people that both work and were visiting. If you’re looking for a unique escape and a no frills vacation but with plenty of genuine hospitality and fun - look no further, would highly recommend and who knows we may even be back!Pro tips - rent a golf cart because while the island is small, it is much easier to get around. Gratuities are included at Mango’s and Barnacle’s.
I rented this house to spend a few days fishing with my son for his 16th birthday. Then we had a couple of good friends join us mid-week. This place was perfect and we all had an absolute blast. There was outstanding fishing just outside the door but when we wanted to hit the boat it was ready and waiting at the private dock.
The house was clean and in great shape. Everything we needed was there. The property manager was easy to communicate with and the owner seemed like she genuinely cared about our experience.
I’m usually ready to come home but could have easily stayed at Sanderella another week.
The house was great and in a near perfect location.
Golf cart situation not the best but understandable considering havoc caused by Ian.
Fridge did not produce ice but there is ice conveniently located on the island.
Fishing dock was a big hit and grandkids enjoyed playing in the sand.
Internet is fickle, again likely a Ian thing.
Depending on family schedules we may try to book again for 2025.
The island and home are beautiful! The property managers are helpful. You can swim or fish right outside the front door. Having only golf carts on the island made it possible for our boys to explore without having to worry. We enjoyed the beaches , fishing, and kayaks. The only complaint is the property needs a better golf cart. First timers (like us) need to do their research and plan ahead for food, drinks, and ice.
The home was as advertised, with plenty of amenities, games, utensils etc. Fishing gear was used from the dock, much appreciated. Service from Tortuga properties was responsive, very quick and helpful. We sent a list of minor repairs that should have been completed prior to our arrival. None were critical, and probably not previously reported. Biggest issue was availability of a golf cart; it’s under repair, and Danny at Tortuga was very helpful in arranging rentals. Access to the pool and cafe was a bonus. Only one additional restaurant was open, with limited reservation space. Hopefully others will open soon. Overall5 stars!
Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous home in North Captiva with our Family! It has been a rough 2 years without a vacation due to the pandemic. We wanted to find an escape in the United States to get away for the week and this was perfect! In all the years that we have traveled, we have never visited the gulf coast of Florida. We rented a boat from Four winds Marina (the house has 2 private boat docks) which eliminated the ferry ride. There were many islands and places that we wanted to explore while we were there so this was a perfect option for us. Gorgeous views from every floor and the house is just stunning!
While the Island has a club with tennis courts and pools we are not all that good at sitting still. My favorite place to visit was Coya Costa ( the next island up) with miles of beaches to walk and look for sea shell treasures. I am happy that we did not rent a home on Captiva or Sanibel after exploring them by boat. While they are also gorgeous islands, they are much more populated and busy. ( just not our thing) North Captiva is quiet and relaxing without cars, big hotels and a ton of people. There are just a few restaurants on the Island however they are very expensive. Apparently there is a new 20% gratuity island tax even if you don't eat in. We ordered plenty of food for the house so this was not a big deal but one lunch out for 4 people cost $175.00. Anytime that we needed extra supplies, they were delivered to us via instacart the next day. My advice to anyone visiting, unless you do not mind the cost of eating out, is to plan meals before you go and bring the spices that you need. While the house does provide basic salt pepper and a few other spices, if you are planning meals and need something special pack it in your luggage. I had planned out 5 meals and ordered supplies ahead of time which made life much easier. We wanted to have fish tacos one night and we ordered fresh fish right on the island. It was fantastic! I needed certain spices for this recipe and packed them before we left. The trip just takes some preplanning as far as food is concerned. There is a grill but it is not a gas grill. You will need to add charcoal to your grocery list if you plan on grilling.
I love to snorkel so my only complaint is this is not a great place for this. The water is just not that clear to see the fish. The dolphins were gorgeous to watch from the house but there are A LOT of sharks as well.
Great trip overall! Thank you!
House and location are great. Golf cart situation was bad. The house cart worked for 1 day and I also rented a 2nd golf cart for our crew. We were never able to keep 2 carts going and at certain times we didn’t have any. I would not have spent the extra money on a 2nd golf cart if I knew I would never had it. Would like to see a refund of that money. Outside of that it was a great stay.
My family has been visiting North Captiva for many years and we've stayed in a variety of locations. Everyone remarked on how nice this house is. It is open and airy, lots of room, great kitchen. It even has a reverse osmosis unit which was great for drinking water. The location is private for the island, very little golf cart traffic near it and the view of Pine Island Sound is fabulous. We enjoyed fishing off of the dock and hanging out on the beach. Laurie was very responsive and helpful. I would definitely recommend!
Can't say enough about the magic we experienced at Beach Bay Escape! The private beach and dock was the perfect escape for our family. Every day was the same - wake up, hunt for crabs/seashells/star fish, eat breakfast in the glorious kitchen, ride the golf carts to the manatees, come home for lunch/naps on the beach, fish, make dinner, cart to get ice cream...we cannot wait to go back!
The house has a gorgeous view and a great location! The only sour note to our stay was The golf cart-it did not work and the property managers (because of spring break) did not have another to swap out. We had to walk everywhere for the first three days. We got our steps in!
We chose this home for the layout (perfect for 2-3 couples or a family), loveliness of the home, and location (next to the water with fabulous view). The photos capture the beauty we experienced! Waking up to the sound of the waves and gorgeous sunrise was exactly what we all needed to relax and recharge. Britt, the owner, and Tortuga Properties were excellent to work with and very responsive. We found everything we needed and the golf cart helped us get to every area of the island.
We met friendly people everywhere we went. Island Girl water taxi easily loaded all of our groceries, alcohol, and luggage. Emmy Girl Charters took us to Cabbage Key for lunch and sightseeing, Emily was fun and knowledgeable. The two pools at the North Captiva Island Club were well maintained and perfect for an afternoon of relaxation.
There is no true grocery store on island so make sure you bring enough food for the week. There are 4 restaurants but if the weather is bad employees can’t make it to the island and restaurants stay closed.
Best of all we felt like we were in the Caribbean, not in Florida. A direct 3 hour flight from Colorado to Tampa and a 2 hr drive south to Pine Island to catch the water taxi. Great vacation!!
From the time we selected this house, everything was smooth - the instant communication from the owner, the payment process, and the property management, Tortuga Properties. They have an excellent setup in place that helps you be 100% prepared for your arrival, as well as during your stay and departure. I used their recommendations for shuttle service from the airport and ferry service to the island - lots of moving parts, but not one issue, to or from! Even if you stay in a different house on the island, make sure it’s managed by Tortuga - they are awesome!
The house is fabulous! Breathtaking views from every room. Just as a beach house should be - comfortable and welcoming. It’s truly a place where you can just relax, stare at the water and enjoy peace. The shared dock was my husband’s favorite place, he fished every day and spent hours out there finally escaping from his busy career. My three teenage daughters enjoyed laying in the sun, finding shells and of course, taking a million selfies.
The house is very well stocked with everything needed in the kitchen. I didn’t cook much, but when I did it was easy to find what I needed. We had one day of weather bad enough that the ferry couldn’t get to the island, which means the restaurants on the island are closed because all employees come from the mainland in the ferry. So, be prepared.
I highly recommend this house, the island and Tortuga Properties.
All I can say is WOW. The house is absolutely beautiful and the location is amazing. Waking up in the upstairs master to the sun rising and dolphins playing is unforgettable. Literally every window in the house (there's a lot) has an amazing view. The house is very kid friendly, we didn't have to worry about our 3 and 4 year old getting into anything that they shouldn't or breaking something! We have only been back home for one day and we are already mapping out our next stay at this awesome house. It truly is one of the nicest homes I saw on the island.
Oh and if there is a fisherman or 2 in your family, the dock is loaded with snook!
The house is absolutely stunning, inside and out! The pictures don't do it justice! I'd never been to an island like this, so naturally I had some questions and concerns. The home owner was amazing from start to finish! She addressed all of the concerns and answed all of my questions... Honestly, I couldn't ask for a better host! Cooking is a passion of mine, and the kitchen was absolutely perfect... Counter space for days!! I left some cooking items that I hope the next guests will enjoy... A stainless steel wok for the grill along with a stainless steel grill tray... Make sure you add charcoal to your shopping list! Fresh caught grilled fish on a charcoal grill is amazing!! The keurig coffee maker and ninja blender were a huge hit with my teenage daughter, carmel coffee frapees and fruit smoothies! The private dock was a favorite of my 12 yr old son... He caught a ton of fish from it. My favorite space was the massive master suite! The entire upstairs! The balcony was where I enjoyed my caffeine and watched the sun rise... I can't imagine a better view! My kids on the other hand weren't as impressed, especially when I woke them up at 6:30 to watch it with me! Haha... The island club pools were fantastic and not as crowded as I thought. Several times we had the pool to ourselves. I would recommend this house and this island to anyone looking for a laid back family oriented trip! The sand roads and not having cars on the island is a huge plus! Getting around by golf cart was an experience we won't forget!

I am a busy mom of 5 growing kids. I love to read and travel. I come to North Captiva to relax, rejuvenate, and refresh. I'm always counting the days till I return to my beach house!
Why they chose this property
My husband is an avid fly fisherman and we found North Captiva over 25 years ago when he was scouting for the best tarpon fishing (shush, don't tell anyone). Since then we've come back to this island every year and introduced each one of our children and watch them grow up on the sands of the beach. We finally took the plunge in 2019 and bought the beach house and are slowly making it our own.
What makes this property unique
Because this is our personal home, and we truly care about it, we are excited to make changes and additions to it each time we visit. As you come back to this place time and time again, there will always be something new or different as we are passionate about making it more and more our own.
