About this property

5* Luxury Suite Central Edinburgh stunning views of Edinburgh Castle!

Still available dates for next years Edinburgh International Festival in this Stunning city- centre apartment with amazing views of Edinburgh Castle in the heart of Edinburgh. This is an amazing opportunity to be at the heart of the action for both the largest arts festival in the world, The Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh's Christmas & Hogmanay celebrations. Just minutes walk from the main venues and cultural/historical attractions, German markets, ice rink and big wheel etc for the festive hols, and surrounded by the best shopping, bars and restaurants, this is all about location, location, location! Pleasant walks can be enjoyed nearby along the Water of Leith walkway, Inverleith Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens while there is convenient road access to the west leading to the city bypass, Edinburgh International Airport and central Scotland’s motorway network. Waverley Train Station is also within a short walk.

This 5 star luxury apartment has unprecedented views of Edinburgh castle and commands an extremely central location on the corner of fashionable George Street and North Castle Street. Surrounded by leading stores such as Harvey Nichol's and great restaurants and bars. It is decorated and furnished to the highest standards.

One of the first flats to be built in the New Town by James Craig in 1790 and directly adjacent to the Edinburgh town house of Sir Walter Scott! Two bedrooms - one master, (with super king-size divan) and stunning castle views. The single bedroom (but large enough for two with a single/trundle bed that coverts to an additional single) has a very comfy new bed with good length. Both bedrooms are newly equipped with acoustic glazing, so extremely quite from the street noise below.

large elegant lounge with two large windows, contemporary furnishings and decor with two comfortable sofas and a marble dining table with chairs for six with matching consul and side tables. There is a large Sony flat screen TV with access to Sky and Apple television.

State of the art Kitchen and Bathroom ( with under floor heating & steam enclosure) - limestone throughout: Fully fitted contemporary, luxury kitchen with everything you would expect of a 5 star property and bathroom. Double ended bath and steam shower, under-floor heating and limestone wet-room.

The property comes with access to the beautiful private gardens on Queen Street (residents only), just two minutes from the front door, which provides the most perfect oasis in the heart of the city. I use it for my limited jogging circuit when I'm in residence, as it's perfectly manicured and also entirely geared up for secure doggie walking. Wonderful in the Summer for festival picnics and reading the papers of a morning.

Christmas and Hogmanay (Scotlands' New Year Celebrations) also bring their own added attractions, with new events planned on George Street every year; Xmas markets and a wonderful sparkly atmosphere, enhanced by the beautiful festive street lighting. There is still availability for Christmas and Hogmanay 2023/24! The celebrations have evolved into a world class event over the years with a full daily programme designed to appeal to all tastes and age groups in the heart of the city and literally just minutes walk from the door step. Fancy a change of scene in one of the most historically beautiful city's in the world - book now to avoid disappointment! Please refer to bookings calendar for availability.

We have two luxury apartments in the building, both with the same elevation and stunning views of Edinburgh Castle. The Robert Louis Stevenson Suite ( below this one) has a more retro feel, but with classical over tones, especially in the master bedroom and kitchen. Please do contact us to enquire about a dual apartment booking, when we can offer a special rate for larger groups, special occasions, wedding parties etc.

Excellent location despite spiral stairs to access property

Very happy with the property, our only gripe was having to carry a large suitcase up the spiral stairs to the second floor. Smaller cases would be easier. The property is centrally located and is within walking distance of most of the attractions, shops and restaurants, with trams, buses and Waverley station close by.

Easter break - review

Morris’s apartment is in a fantastic location with some great restaurants and bars only a few minutes walk. It’s clean and spacious and has everything you need to ensure a home from home stay in Edinburgh. Communication was quick and helpful and ensured we had a hassle free break. We will certainly be coming back and would love to stay again.

Fantastic location and beautifully appointed. Comfortable beds and sofas and great shower! Acoustic glazing in the bedrooms helps with the city centre noise but I think you need to accept it’s inevitable with a location like this. So easy to explore both new and old town from here with plenty of lovely restaurants nearby. I have no doubt I’ll return at some point!

Great stay, great location and great communication

This is one of the best places to stay in Edinburgh, great central location with everything on your doorstep with a view of castle as well. Lovely, clean and tidy. There is a shared spiral staircase so not great if you cant manage stairs very well. Very small issues solved with a phone call and messages, just what you need - a responsive host who comes back to you in minutes and not hours or days. 100% recommended.

Perfect Edinburgh stay

The apartment is in the most wonderful Location. My daughter was taking part in fringe and we could be at the royal mile in 15mins walking. The buses are from literally the end of the street, so convenient to travel to the old town and surrounds. The apartment is spacious and very well equipped. The beds are very comfortable and the master bedroom is a great size. We would definitely book again for another stay in Edinburgh. Thanks Morris for being so communicative and helpful.

Great spot for the Festival

This is a great location for an Edinburgh stay generally and particularly so for the Festival. We are regular Fringe visitors, and enjoyed the nightly bonus of the view of the fireworks at the Castle from the bedroom window. Despite the Fringe being in full swing, at two-floors up and with secondary glazing, street noise was not a problem in the bedrooms. As a place to occasionally hide from all the noise and fun in the City, the apartment is a lovely retreat and far better than any hotel would be. Dayna, who was managing the apartment day-to-day for the owner, ensured that we had moved in without problem, and that she was available should we needed her - we had no difficulties and so didn’t need to call on this assistance. Some of the decoration was a little tired in places - eg some areas of worn carpet - but this did not detract from the stay overall, and we would love to come back in future.

Chilled out Weekend

Lovely property, could be doing with a little refurb but is still nice. Was a little worried about £400 deposit not getting returned after reading another review but this was paid back within the week all good

Spacious, well-equipped and located apartment

We were a party of three adults who stayed for 10 days in this 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town. It is surrounded by excellent shopping and fine restaurants. We were there for the book festival which takes place in Charlotte Square, only 1 block from this apartment. All the rooms are spacious, especially the living room. 12 foot ceilings throughout. Our host, Morris Paton was extremely gracious and helpful for the minor problems we encountered. The only limitation I can find for this rental is that the curved stairway leading to the apartment may be challenging for the infirm. Otherwise I heartily recommend this property.

Great Property

We absolutely loved this property. It is dead center near everything. Everything is within walking distance. The whole facility was beautifully maintained with all the amenities. There is a large sitting area that made socializing very easy and comfortable. The kitchen was well appointed and large, as was the single bathroom. The only two drawbacks we experiences was the very small second bedroom (barely big enough for two adults with absolutely no space other than for the two single beds pushed together), and the noise. Since the weather was very warm whilst we were there it required that the windows be open at night. There is a lot of after hours street life that happens near here. But if you're not participating in the street life it will be loud with windows open. (When windows are closed there is very little noise at all). Overall, we greatly enjoyed our stay and would recommend highly to the right sized group.

Beautiful, Spacious and Comfortable.

We arrived at the apartment which was very easy to find. Plenty of parking nearby and within easy walking distance of all the main attractions. It is a spacious and very comfortable living space. The kitchen is lovely and the 'Sauna' shower was a big hit. The little touches that Morris has added just add to the feel and ambience of the apartment. (A Christmas CD in the player too!) The main bedroom is Huge. The second bedroom was OK, fine for one person I think but could probably fit 2 at a squeeze. Saying that it was still a lovely room and very comfortable for my 6'2" 15 year old son. Overall the Apartment is a gorgeous place, with high ceilings and decorated and fitted out to make it feel like a home away from home. 2 days was definitely not enough. Access to the building is simple and even though there are bars around it, the secondary glazing in the bedrooms soundproof it, so it's nice and quiet through the night. I cannot recommend the Walter Scott Suite enough. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you Georgina Rea

Great location

We found the location to be perfect for a stay in New Town with everything in Old town within easy walking distance. The carpet was a bit worn out and there was a cigarette burn on one of the sofas in the living room. The mattresses were too old and a lumpy. The layout of the apartment was nice. We had a wonderful stay and the kitchen was clean and laid out very well with all the amenities and appliances.

Wonderful Flat and Location

Great location and the flat was roomy and clean. The owner was also very communicative and willing to accommodate as our original plan had changed. The only feedback from us was the flooring. While it was likely chosen as it is sturdy, thick thatched covering, it made it difficult to walk barefoot or in socks as the fibers would poke through and irritate your feet. But if you walk around the flat with shoes or slippers with thick soles, you’d be fine.

About the host

Host profile image
I worked as an actor for many years and as a radio broadcaster on the BBC, presenting arts programmes. I'm also very interested in cultural tourism projects and in 1996 created The Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour, an award winning tour performed by professional actors. It runs throughout the year and Rick Steves, presenter of travel programmes USA wide, is quoted as saying in a recent review, 'for an entertaining insight into the greats of Scottish literature, served up with new friends, good beer, and lots of laughs, The Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour is my vote for the best way to spend an Edinburgh Evening!' so can't be bad!! Let me know if your interested in going on the tour at check-in and I can reserve you a slot.

Why they chose this property

I'm interested in all things literary and so when this apartment came on the market in 2001, I was excited by the fact that it sits just across the road from Sir Walter Scot's Edinburgh townhouse and on the other side of the street from the birth place of 'Wind in the Willow's' author, Kenneth Grahame. of course, that's not forgetting that the apartment has unprecedented, stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and is in an excellent, central location for shopping, restaurants and culture - especially during The International Edinburgh Festival!

What makes this property unique

Central location for great shopping and superb restaurants and bars.Great views and
luxury decor and furnishings throughout.
Access to lovely private gardens in the centre of town only 2 mins walk from the building.
On street metered parking or 7x24 only 10 mins walk away.
The end of August is the finale of The Edinburgh International Festival and there is the most spectacular fire works display from the castle ramparts (unprecedented views from the apartment windows) with live orchestral accompaniment by The Scottish Chamber Orchestra. The apartment provides probably the best view in town of this spectacular event and whilst the music can be heard being played live from across the road in Princes Street gardens, I always amp the sound by tuning in live to the local radio station. So it's a great opportunity for a night to remember and for entertaining etc. Here's some of the details from their site:

'Bringing Edinburgh’s summer festival season to a magnificent conclusion, the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert combines passionate music from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with breathtaking pyrotechnics, specially choreographed by international fireworks artists Pyrovision to enhance the musical experience. It is all set against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh’s historic castle.
