Enter the home onto the grand lanai (porch) which is fully screened in and offers a view of the manicured acre with Hilo Bay views in the distance. Through the front doors you'll be greeted by our huge living room. The original hardwood floors and plantation era architectural details are unique to Hilo homes from the 1920s and 1930s. This huge living area books on history and art of Hawaii, a large flat-screen TV, high-speed Wi-Fi internet and luxurious lounging area big enough for your whole family. NOTE: there are no TV channels so bring your streaming login info!
There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms in the home that are artfully decorated with historic representations of 'old Hawaii'. The kitchen at the back of the house is bright and full of windows to take in your Hawaiian landscape. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you may need to cook a big meal or heat up your restaurant leftovers. Seating for 8 at the dining table and seating for 6 at the kitchen table with additional seating on the lanai.
My Hilo Home is planted with lots of tropical fruiting trees and plants. Enjoy juicy pineapples from our pineapple patch in summer months, tangy lychee from our ancient lychee tree in spring and citrus in the winter. There is also a breadfruit tree for those adventurous travelers who want to try a unique starch (please follow in-house instructions on preparing the difficult fruit!).
Four comfortable bedrooms line one side of the private home. Three of the bedrooms have queen size beds and the fourth has two twin beds (max occupancy is 8 guests). Each of the two bathrooms has a marble shower and one bathroom has a small bathtub. A pack-n-play is available for our guests with babies. The kitchen has an electric cook-top, electric oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and washer/dryer for laundry. All kitchen dishes and small appliances are available for your use. The house is immaculately cleaned between guests (at check-out) and mid-stay cleaning is an optional add-on.

A few hiccups but the commincation was good and we got things resolved. Beautiful plantation house and grounds. Very private and lots of room for a family of 7.
Very relaxing! Close to town. But feels like your living the Hawaiian life in the country! Loved pickings and enjoying fresh fruit. House was clean. love loved the architecture of the authentic Hawaiian home! Some updates needed in master bath and kitchen. But overall we really enjoyed our stay! Thanks

Reviewer Comments:
Cute older home overlooking Hilo Bay. The house was a little stuffy when we first arrived, but we opened all the windows and never had to think about it again. The yard was great for the kids to run around, and the large kitchen was perfect for cooking some meals at the house. The pots and pans could use a refresh though. Overall, it was a great place to stay on the calmer side of the island.
Great property with lots of space. The screened porch was the most used space. Lots of fruit trees on the property. Only a short distance to downtown with lots of shops and restaurant options.
This house worked perfectly for our extended family vacation. The huge kitchen was great for many cooks working together and the grill and outdoor seating area was a valuable addition which we enjoyed immensely. We would stay here again. Sunrise and coffee on the lanai was a special quiet time for my husband and me before the rest of the crew got up. We loved this spot.

My Hilo Home is a plantation house in good condition, in a private quiet area yet just a 1/2 mile or so across the river from downtown Hilo. We enjoyed the yard, the porch, the views over the bay, and having a full kitchen.

The Amau'ulu Plantation Managers Home is like going back into Hawaii history. Spacious rooms, huge kitchen and a massive yard offer a family a comfortable stay. Minutes from downtown Hilo where there are great local food restaurants and great shopping. Hilo is the Hawaii from the past where the meaning of aloha still lives.
We left property second night in. Checked in to hotel. No A/C ! Impossible to sleep. Termites on bed, mattress saggy, condemned label on window. Stunning physically, needs restoration.
Terrible experience.

Had a very lovely stay at this location. Generally a very quiet area, with just some noise from the road once in a while. Fairly clean as well, although there were a couple of pillows that we were unable to use because they were covered in mold, and one of the showers wasn't entirely clean. Other than that, the view and the porch made up for it!
Worth Going Back to. I will miss the view from the kitchen. So very little time! Next time, if there will be a next time, a 7 night stay!

Reviewer Comments:
Hilo is a quaint town and this home fits right in. It is a beautiful country home walking distance to downtown Hilo. There is soooo much good things to say about this property. First off we had 7 people in our party and it was very spacious with its 4 bedrooms, huge living room and huge screened in lanai. Some days we had our meals in the kitchen with a gorgeous view of Hilo Bay. Some days on the lanai enjoying the beautiful weather. We explored the huge backyard and found bread fruit trees, avocado trees and a papaya tree. Also, my dad uses a walker so nice that it had a ramp for him to get into the home and a handicap shower too. We will definitely be back to My Hilo Home!!!

We had an amazing time at this vacation rental. Very large home and property. Very peaceful, had everything we needed. The kitchen was the biggest kitchen we ever saw. We loved it. Would definitely stay there again. Had to deal with a lot of gnats, ants, and a couple of centipedes, but thats expected in Hawaii and the area we were in.
We really enjoyed our stay in the beautiful home. The kitchen and view were sensing and extremely well equipped with everything we could need. So much attention to detail to make a comfortable stay.
It was a lovely house to spend nearly 2 weeks in. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. We picked lots of fruit from the property, lounged on the lanai, and had fun watching the planes and geckos eating insects. The large yard was very nice to have young children use up some energy.
The proximity to the downtown and beaches, while still being 'out of town,' was excellent.

The house was charming place to stay with lots of space, beautiful deck with views and a birdwatcher's delight. It was out of the way, but close to town and right up the road were waterfalls. Very peaceful and clean.

Reviewer Comments:
We enjoyed staying in this plantation home. The location in Hilo was close to everything. It was clean, and well stocked with kitchen supplies. The beds were comfortable. It was clean, except for a huge ant problem in the second bath that made it almost unusable. We did understand that bugs are part of that environment. We really enjoyed the huge lanai and spent a lot of time there. The property was large and enjoyable to walk around. The cleaning people showed up early, well before our check out time and asked them to return later. They assumed that they could hang out on the lanai til then, however the screen door was locked. They then sat on the front steps for awhile. We assume this was a miscommunication but still inappropriate.

Reviewer Comments:
The four of us LOVED the Hilo home. I went into the backyard & picked an orange 🍊 off the tree & two ripe lemons from underneath the tree. The beds were clean & comfortable. No A/C, No problem really! The climate in Hilo is very nice & perfect for open windows. The house is about 3 minutes from Downtown Hilo. Don’t stay in a hotel. Stay at the Hilo House.
We just wrapped up our wedding and wanted a few quiet days with family to unwind from all the festivities. This house was unique, large enough for our family of 5 adults & 2 kids, great views and a bit quirky/historical in All the best ways.
My only critique is that while there are lots of eating tables in different areas, there isn’t one big enough for everyone to sit at if you have a group bigger than 4.
I can’t say enough about the amazing plantation house! Our daughter and her family joined us for part of our stay. We spent evenings in the large screened in porch, enjoying the skies and all the fun night sounds. Even the frogs😉 loved the little black and white cat that visited us daily! The location was ideal for us as well. Able to drive to the volcano park easily. And along to coast to Waimea
We would definitely recommend My Hilo House!
