Paturau Beach paradise

A cosy historic homestead nestled in the sand dunes between the Tasman Sea and the Paturau River. Perfect place for a family reunion or a whitebaiting getaway with a group of friends, and there is plenty to do for the young and the old: miles of gorgeous beach to walk or ride on, fishing, surfing and wind surfing, biking... or you might just choose to relax and read a book. Paturau is good for the body and good for the soul.

The beautiful timber kitchen makes cooking at Paturau a joy.

Minimum 2 night bookings only, except Christmas - January holiday minimum 4 nights please.
Special conditions:
Pets by arrangement only - dogs need to be treated for sheep measels and stock proof.
We wash the bedding etc but please leave the house in clean condition as you leave.

Cleansing

Wonderful to watch the teenagers interact with family and actually get out of bed early. Wonderful bonding experience. Both the 17 and 15 year old loved it. Thankful to have been able to soak up the history and feel away from the crazy world for a period of time.

Fantastic getaway

Family holiday

This is the perfect place to get away from media with the kids and reconnect and remember the simple joy of being together. We played games and walked and sung all weekend. Such an incredible spot. Thank you Rita for sharing

Beautiful Getaway

Staying here was an absolute pleasure, communicating with Rita was easy, she was very friendly and helpful with recommending activities and places nearby. The house is very charming and full of fun surprises like the outdoor chessboard and twister, volleyball net and rope swing. My friends and I all hope to come back and will be recommending this bach to others :)

Magical getaway

We came over with friends from Christchurch for a few days of weaving. Such a magical landscape to be immersed in! The house warmed up amazingly (It was a winter visit) and held the heat right through to the morning. The kitchen was well equipped. Couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Relaxed West Coast living

You could enjoy a stay at this house at any level, ranging from simply indulging in old-fashioned Kiwi beach life through to imbibing some of the incredibly diverse history of the area. The house and its contents provide an interesting window into the lifestyles of previous generations and even some of the first immigrants that came to New Zealand. The owners have also generously provided many activities to keep the whole family entertained.

Tranquil paradise

What a gem! This is a real holiday destination because there is no internet, therefore, the teenagers interacted and joined in with family activities, such as paddle boarding, walking, playing table tennis, and swimming. Great quality family time! Highly recommended for reconnecting as a family.
