The house was perfect for a relaxing weekend. We spent most of our visit just hanging out in the property, eating, grilling, and sitting on the very nice deck.
John lives next door, is very friendly, and has some good recommendations for the area as well. We had our dog and it was a great spot for her - if you close the gate the yard and deck are all enclosed so you can let the pup roam.
A great property with a super nice and helpful host. It was just perfect to relax and take a break from the world. We were very comfortable and loved falling asleep listening to the sound of the water so close below. The covered deck is so great for taking in the view and just relaxing. And a bonus for us, we got to see a huge thunder and lightning storm our last night! Thank you John for making our stay a wonderful one!
You can't beat the view from this deck. I've stayed a few places on the canal and I really loved this place so much. Grocery store and the best Mexican restaurant are 1 min drive up the road. We saw orcas, seals, star fish. We swam and took out the kayaks and had the best time. There are two bedrooms on the first floor each with private connection to a full bath. Both full baths are also accessible from the main part of the house. There are two beds upstairs that are connected by a corridor. There are also two cots up there. It's a well loved property so it's not shiny and new but it's super special. The kitchen, living room, deck and side yard are all perfect for your group to spend a great time together staring at Mt Rainer.
We stayed here with our kids and grandkids for the shrimping opener. The place is great! Our dog also loved it - :) The kids can beachcomb and the kitchen is HUGE with enough seating for all. John is a great host. This is just a few minutes from Hoodsport with a grocery store. About 30min to Pleasant Harbor where we had the boat.
Great house with all the comforts of home. Sleeping arrangements for our entire group of 8. Fenced yard for pet safety. Owner was great. So friendly and even came over to take a family photo of our group for us. Highly recommend.
We had the most wonderful time at Sherry's Hood Canal House! John is a fantastic host - very welcoming and helpful! The house is cozy and inviting. We felt right at home! We barely turned on the TV, but we did stream a movie and everything worked perfectly. The kitchen is fully stocked with any kind of cookware or utensil you may need, and more! The view from the deck is spectacular! We saw a few seals, and did some kayaking and fishing. We spent most of our time sitting outside listening to the water and feeling the breeze. I almost felt like we were on a boat! It was just what we needed ro relax and recharge!
John is just the nicest guy! He came out on our arrival to greet us but otherwise private. Very comfortable kitchen , dining are and the deck over the water was perfect!
We got lucky awesome weather this weekend. We were able to utilize the outdoor spaces (deck & side yard) for haning out, BBQing & holding a beer pong tournament.
Indoor space was great, big kitchen with island to stand around, 6 person dinning table and room for the kiddies to play in the living room.
The host lives next door is is super nice. Let us use his kayaks and met his super friendly dog. He was very kind and checked on us throughout the weekend, set up the AC unit upstairs for us on the second day because it was going to be super warm.
Oyster harvesting is great too!
My family stayed here to visit our mom/grandmother previously. We all returned from all over the country for her memorial and this house was a perfect gathering place for us. The host was friendly and the house is fit for a large group to enjoy time together.
Beautiful view and probably one of the greatest waterfront locations on the canal. The owner brought us a bucket of fresh oysters that we grilled. Great stay- highly recommended.
We had a great time! We loved sitting out on the deck watching the seals popping up and taking the kayaks out for close up views of them. It was fun finding crabs and oysters on the beach as well. The property manager was very friendly and a great source of information about the area and things to do nearby. Would stay here again!
I hesitated writing this review because property manager is very nice and in the end we enjoyed our stay but there are a few things that I do believe need to be brought to a renter's attention.
The home is quite dated, has some scary looking electrical things going on, like X'd out outlets and a jbox outside that has a cracked and half missing cover. The most important thing to know is that someone in our party is 6'4 and he scalped the top of his head numerous times on the beams in the home and had to walk with his head at a tilt constantly. The ceilings are very low so if you have a tall person your party you should reach out to John to specify the exact height of the beams to be sure. We were lucky enough that it was nice weather so we spent most of our time outside. The master bedroom does have "code" height ceilings. All of this can be looked past because the location is absolutely wonderful. I don't think that there could be a better view.
We had a great stay watching seals and other wildlife from the deck, swimming in Hood Canal, visiting Hoodsport, eating fresh salmon and relaxing. Nice, basic place with a great property host.
The house was great for our needs, the view is spectacular from the deck, we saw a lot of seals and the provided kayaks were great. The kitchen was well stocked. The parking was a little stressful as it is right on hwy 101 and hard to get in and out. My grandson had fun turning over rocks and finding the little crabs at low tide. The property manager was awesome.

Beautiful waterfront views with a private oyster beach. Also, John is a great host!
We stayed here for a few days during our daughter's mid-winter break. The snow was still on the ground around Lake Cushman and the trails, so we got a spectacular water view and lots of great outdoors time. We brought our dogs, who loved the place. The manager, John, was a gem- he was very available, helped us when check-in instructions weren't sent by VRBO before arrival, and went the extra mile. He showed me how to harvest and shuck oysters (which were fantastic) and even drove (separately) to show us where some trails were. The place is wonderful- a well-stocked kitchen, very cozy, an older house but in good condition. The fenced yard was great for the dogs. There was only a little road noise, which didn't keep us up. We will most definitely come back.
Great home for a family getaway! We loved the views and that the house had plenty of room for the kids to have their own personal space. The host was always very quick to respond to any questions and was friendly with great advice on local sights. The only thing that prevents me from leaving 5 stars is that this home is on a very busy street, so you will hear traffic 24 hours a day. Otherwise, an ideal place to relax, enjoy the views and take a break from it all!
