About this property
In the mountains, minutes from Gatlinburg Strip! Hot tub, pool table, views!
The Shady Vale is tucked away in the mountains of Gatlinburg but just 7 minutes from the bustling Gatlinburg Strip. You'll love the peace and quiet of this rustic retreat combined with its convenient location. Sip coffee from the balcony while overlooking our beautiful mountain views, lounge in the hot tub, or relax with a book by the wood-burning fireplace. With a pool table, multicade, beautiful views, and a massive list of nearby amenities, your trip to Gatlinburg will be a memorable one at The Shady Vale.
The Shady Vale is a warm, inviting home away from home, tucked away in the wooded mountains of Gatlinburg. You'll exit the strip downtown and immediately feel transported as you drive along winding, often steep, mountain roads to reach our cabin. As you pull up the driveway, our three-story home invites you with a wraparound deck complete with a cozy two-person hot tub and seating area. The top floor has a small balcony with comfortable outdoor chairs ready for you to sip your morning coffee and enjoy the breathtaking mountain views.
First Floor
Use your unique key code to enter and be welcomed by the comfortable eat-in kitchen, complete with everything you need to cook delicious meals during your stay. The open floor plan leads to the main living area with plenty of seating surrounding a fireplace and flat screen Roku TV for you to watch your favorite movies and shows on any streaming services you own. Tall windows let in plenty of natural sunlight and create a warm, inviting space. Also on the first floor is the first bedroom, outfitted with a queen size bed, dresser, and flat screen TV - also streaming enabled. A full bathroom is accessed from the main living area but also has a private door for the bedroom, so you don't even have to re-enter the living space to use it! Also on this floor off the kitchen is a washer and dryer for your use, making sure you have all the amenities of home while you are staying at The Shady Vale. Don't forget to enjoy some complimentary coffee from our coffee bar! Later in the evening, once temperatures have cooled, you can head back outside to the deck to sink into the hot tub for a relaxing soak!
Second Floor
Climb the staircase off the living room and you'll be greeted by three additional bedrooms and a second full bath. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds, one has a full bed, and of course all have televisions with full streaming enabled. The hallway outside the bedrooms overlooks the living room and the tall windows give you a glimpse at those beautiful mountain views. If you want a better look, though, just walk to the end of the hallway and out the final door...there, you'll find the top balcony. Two comfortable rocking chairs face the horizon and provide the perfect setting for your morning coffee, breathing in that fresh mountain air. Or you might enjoy a quiet afternoon out there reading a book. Or perhaps an evening glass of wine with a loved one as you look out over the city lights. Whatever you desire, this spot is sure to become your favorite.
Basement Level
If you walk back down to the first floor, you'll find a spiral staircase tucked behind the couch. As you wind down into the lower level, twin bunks greet you across from the third full bathroom. Also in this bonus area you'll find a regulation size pool table ready for a rousing game between friends. Spectators can sit at the small table and two chairs provided and perhaps enjoy a beverage while they cheer on the pool sharks. Next to that, a "multicade" game machine, equipped with dozens of classic arcade games - favorites like Pac Man, Frogger, Dig Dug, and so many more. There is also another exterior door on this level that leads out to the driveway for quick and easy access out of the home.
Whether you're here for a family vacation, a best friend gathering, or a sweetheart getaway, The Shady Vale has everything you could possibly need to leave your cares and worries at home and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Smoky Mountains.
***Please note: Our driveway is only able to fit two cars, maximum - there are no exceptions to this rule and there is NO overflow parking whatsoever. It may be difficult or impossible to fit very large or long vehicles such as extended cab trucks. We highly recommend that you let us know what types of vehicles you're planning to take so that we can give you a sense of whether they will fit in our mountainside parking area. If you must have a third vehicle on your trip, regrettably our property is probably not for you.
You will have the entire home to yourself during your stay. Our cleaners live nearby and can come out for service calls and mid-stay cleanings for a fee, should you need them!
For safety and responsiveness, all interactions are handled through the app. We cannot guarantee specific response times, however we typically can respond within an hour from 8 am to 10 pm 7 days a week - but often you will get a response in minutes whenever we are able.
Located in Chalet Village, The Shady Vale is both secluded AND convenient. Nestled high in the mountains, you'll feel like you're away from it all when you drive our winding roads to get to the property. All the while, you're a mere few minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, Ober Gatlinburg, the Strip, and all the exciting attractions this area has to offer.
Should you need a quick sundry or amenity, the Chalet Village Market is less than 2 miles and just a 5-minute drive down the road and has basic staples like milk, bread, cereal, snack foods, and much more.
If you're up for a scenic drive, just 30 minutes down the road is the incredible Pigeon Forge - a sight to behold! As impressive and exciting as the Vegas strip with more to do than you could ever accomplish in TEN visits!
Keep an eye out for bears! They are the locals in these mountains - we are the guests! It is not uncommon to see them around, and upon booking you will receive detailed instructions on how to keep both them AND yourself safe. They are not typically aggressive - just give them their space, and they will give you yours!
Though all community amenities are closed for the colder seasons, if you visit us during the warmer months, The Shady Vale has access to amazing amenities such as fitness centers, club houses, a playground, and FIVE pools! Message us for specific dates regarding pool and club house access.
A few important notes: To reiterate, our driveway is only able to fit two cars, maximum - there are no exceptions to this rule and there is NO overflow parking whatsoever. We share a driveway with our neighbor and blocking access to it is strictly prohibited.
As previously mentioned, the road to our cabin is sometimes steep and often winding - use caution, especially at night or in inclement weather. The driveway is located at almost a 180-degree angle off the main road and you cannot turn directly into it - don't try! Drive past it about 3 houses down and the road widens enough to easily turn around and pull straight in.
Head down the mountain a short 7 minutes and you'll find yourself heading straight into the bustling Gatlinburg strip! You can cruise up and down River Road and look for an open spot along the side of the road and if you find one, congrats! Parking here is always free! If nothing there is available or you don't want as much of a hike, there are paid parking spots all around the city ranging from $10-$20 for daily parking. We also have public trolley access for incredibly affordable rates ranging from $0.50 cents a ride to $2 for all day access. And the trolley lots have free parking! Or, take a ride over to Calhoun's Village and park there. As long as you eat at one of their restaurants or shop at one of their stores (SAVE YOUR RECEIPT!), parking is free when you show your receipt as you leave! Smoky Mountain Brewery, Cherokee Grill, and Calhoun's are the restaurant options in the village and they are all great - Smoky Mountain Brewery is our favorite, and casual enough to bring kids!
Always remember that we are guests in the Smoky Mountains - the bears were here first! This is their home and they do roam freely. While you may not see a single bear your entire visit (but we hope you at least catch a glimpse because they are beautiful!), you are very likely to see at least one, if not several. These bears have been known to roam the roads, the property, and even come up onto the porch when they don't think anyone is around. While we have never had one approach us directly, we have seen them on our deck when no one is outside. They are typically not aggressive, but you should always exercise caution. You don't need to be fearful, but you do need to respect their space! The following guidelines are incredibly important for you to read thoroughly in order to keep yourself AND our bears safe:
DO NOT LEAVE FOOD IN YOUR VEHICLE. This is a guaranteed way to get a furry visitor to the driveway and, if your doors are unlocked, a new vehicle interior.
DO NOT LEAVE UNSECURED TRASH ANYWHERE ON THE PROPERTY. Only place trash inside the cans at the end of the driveway WITH the bear cage secured with the provided carabiner clip.
OUR BEARS ARE SMART! YES, they can open unlocked car doors! YES, they can open the trash cage if it is not secured with the provided carabiner clip. NO, we are not joking!
These rules and advisories are for your safety and the safety of your personal property. The property owners cannot and will not be held responsible for any property damage, injury, or death as a result of bears or other wildlife on or near the property. By renting this property, you accept these risks and agree to release the owners from any and all liability surrounding the local wildlife.
