About this property

"El Castell" - on the Llano River (Entire Property - 4 Cabins)

Enjoy the scenic beauty of the Hill Country at "El Castell". Nestled along the banks of the spring-fed Llano River we provide 4 cabins which serves as the perfect get-a-way from the hustle and bustle of city life, or home base to explore the outdoors.

Located across the street from the charming Castell General Store where you can enjoy great beers and one of the best burgers in Texas!

River swims, area hikes, fly fishing, hunting for topaz, llanite, quartz, exploring hill country towns await!

If you are looking for a quiet remote place to get away, this is the place! Bring your bikes, kayaks (or you can rent ours!), fly rods/fishing poles and relax + enjoy. We are located across the street from the Castell General Store so make sure you drop into and get yourself a cold beer and 3/4 lb burger (Best Burger in Texas, promise!). They jokingly call it "Luckenbach by the Llano River" according to an article written by Texas Monthly...so come for a few days or longer and really decompress, relax and breathe in the beautiful Texas Hill Country air or watch shooting stars streak across the sky.

With this booking, you will have access to the entire 3-acre property on the Llano River which includes our beautiful Llano River waterfront - and the privacy therein.

The main 2 cabins, which we call "Main House", are about 75 feet from the riverfront and are connected by a large breezeway deck with each cabin a total of 952 sq. ft. each. These are Cabins C & D.

We also have 2 individual cabins offset out front (closer to the road) that are also completely self-sufficient at 427 sq. ft. each. These are Cabins A & B.

Don't forget to rent Kayaks or Bikes for the entirety of your stay!

Wonderful stay

This was a great stay for our extended family to unwind and enjoy time on the river. The breezeway table was a really standout for us - every meal was had there. River access on the property was perfect. The town of Castell is very small, so pack all you might need in terms of grocery items.

Always a great time

A group of us comes every year to ride the Castell Grind route and the cabins are always such a great time. Very clean and the well-stocked fire pit is always fun to hang out at!

Great Hill Country spot

Remarkable property with everything you need to stay put for days, but well situated for a hill country base. The layout of the property with so much space, private and communal, made it a great location for 3 families with kids and some extra adults. We'll definitely be coming back.

Rustic Luxury on the Llano

We rented all 4 cabins for a family gathering to view eclipse. Best equipped kitchens we've ever had through VRBO!! Host was very helpful and a pleasure to work with. Plenty of wood provided for evening campfires and grilling on oak/mesquite coals was a real treat. Huge covered balconies were a real treat. River front is lovely and several enjoyed some fly fishing. Great for family gatherings in Texas Hill Country!

Cabins on the Llano

Cabins were nice. Photos made it appear more secluded but still had privacy. River was a lot of fun for the kids to play in. Only negative thing was son inlaw rented a kayak that had a hole in the bottom. Appeared to have been patched before. Would immediately start taking on water

Comfort in Castell

Our multi-generational get-together at this property on the lovely Llano River was wonderful. Something for everyone in our group. We enjoyed th scenery, wildlife, swimming and floating/rafting, fishing, photography, and simply relaxing on the shady cool breeze-way! Cabins were well equipped and property had BBQ grills, comfy porch seating, inflatables. Some of our group day- tripped to state parks and Fredericksburg easily. Note: there are steps to access cabins , decks, and a substantial sloap down to the river, which could be a challenge for some guests. Also, the cabins were quite warm upon arrival as the AC is turned off between bookings and it took many hours to cool cabins C and D. It would be great if the owners could arrange for the AC to be on for clients upon arrival during the hottest summer months.

A great weekend at the river

My family and I enjoyed a fantastic weekend at the cabins. We shared the property with two other families. The cabins comfortably fit all 6 adults and 7 children. The cabins were well equipped with all the supplies we needed. The location on this section of the Llano is great for relaxing, swimming, and fishing. The kids were able to safely play in the river. We caught a number of Guadalupe bass, sunfish, and even a couple of largemouths. The Castell General Store is just across the street and a great place to stop in for a meal after a day on the river. We had one minor water issue (one of the sprinkler pipes was leaking on arrival) and the hosts quickly responded and fixed the problem without disturbing our stay at all. In short, our whole group very much enjoyed our stay and can't wait to book the cabins again next year!

The perfect rustic cycling getaway!

We stayed here for a women's gravel cycling camp and it was perfect! We had all four cabins and it was more than enough space for 12 women and their bikes. The location is so peaceful and has easy access to great gravel roads. We went over to Llano for dinner one night and went to the local haunted house - it was super scary! Highly recommend if you're there around Halloween! Would definitely come back to this hidden gem along the river.

Found a Gem

Wow! Absolutely amazing property. This is a gem that fit our group needs perfectly. The cabins are ideal for friends and family to have an amazing time to create wonderful memories. From the privacy and remote location we couldn’t ask for anything more. Cabins are clean and offer comfortable beds, cool A/C, functional kitchens and Wi-Fi throughout the property. The outdoor patio for family meals and games was perfect for our group. The direct river access and the ability to see the sunrises, sunsets, moonrise, views of the Milky Way, shooting stars and meteor showers left us all in awe and wanting to stay longer.

Perfect retreat for our hill country holiday!

This was our 2nd time staying at the Castell Cabins! We reserved all four in the main cluster and it was perfect for our multi-family stay. We had a group of 13 ranging in age from 4 months to 77 years. There was something for everyone, including all the comforts of home. The breezeway made for the perfect setting for meals, movie watching, and game playing. One of the best surprises was a nugget ice machine that kept all of our beverages refreshingly chilled! The host is incredibly responsive which means we got all of our questions answered timely (before and during our stay). The house is conveniently located across from the Castell General Store and on a part of the river perfect for sitting or floating. We were also able to take excursions to the bat cave (Eckhart Preserve on the James River), the rodeo (Mason), enchanted rock hike (Fredricksburg), and golf (Llano & Comanche Creek). We will definitely stay here again!

The Castell Land Company was founded by a group of young entrepreneurs and outdoor enthusiasts in order to purchase, develop, and share beautiful rural tracts of land. We create outdoor escapes and wonderful experiences. El Castell is our first project and we are excited to share our home with you!

Why they chose this property

If you get one chance to show someone what Texas is all about, you go to the Texas Hill Country. But the Hill Country is a 25-county region, far too large to see in one day. So you’ve got to focus on the best part of the Hill Country, Castell Texas. It’s isolated. There’s a river for fishing or kayaking, and the landscape is in pristine condition. It’s the water, the wildlife, the wide-open spaces, the hills, and the granite. And it’s all in Castell, on the Llano River.

The Llano River is a spring-fed stream of the Edwards Plateau and is widely known for its scenic beauty and home to the Guadalupe Bass, the Texas state fish. Sometimes referred to as the "Texas Trout" because of its fondness for faster flowing water and its fighting ability when hooked. (TPWD also stock 2500+ Rainbow trout in the winter months).

The stone here is scientifically proven to be older than the dinosaurs and you can’t help but feel a recharge from what is referred to as the Llano Uplift. An ancient geological phenomenon where many Native Americans chose to settle and later a group of Germans called the society of freethinkers. To this day, some of the descendants reside in the area.

At night, you’ll get distracted by shooting stars as you stare into the middle of the Milky Way. And although maybe seven people live there, you’ll feel right at home at the Castell General Store. And, when you have to show someone your ideal version of Texas, tell them you’re going to Castell. And when they ask, “What’s Castell?”, you don’t have to tell them anything. Show them your pictures of the river in a canoe or kayak and then end the day in rocking chairs under the sky.

That will be your answer.

P.S. Castell now has the distinction of being the oldest surviving settlement in Llano County.

What makes this property unique

Traveling has the ability to take you out of your daily routine and into new surroundings and experiences which can reset your body and mind. Even planning a trip can have a fantastic effect on the body – it boosts happiness and feels rewarding. Not only does travel reduce stress but it expands the mind. We believe “El Castell” offers travelers a chance re-boot their mental health and wellbeing in every form – body, mind and soul – while designed to enhance and inspire the pursuit of health, balance, mindfulness, and connectivity.

Our spring-fed Llano River water has the ability to re-mineralize the tissues of the body and provide a magical healing effect because the water is naturally structured thru a vortex motion as it hydrates the cells flushing, regulating, and cleaning the cells.

The body’s electrical charge is strengthened and if you were to test the bio-field of the body with kinesiology you might find the energetic field around the body increases in strength. In fact, the mere sight and sound of water can induce a flood of neurochemicals that promote wellness, increase blood flow to the brain and heart and induce relaxation.

…We encourage you to think of us as a destination to travel, get in the water, and improve your relax, recharge and reset.
