About this property

Thatched Roof, Elegant Cottage in Doolin, Spectacular Views, Tranquil

This beautiful home in Doolin, Ireland was built in 1998 as a traditional, thatched-roof, Irish cottage and contains all modern amenities.

Each of the bedrooms is en suite, with antique pine furniture. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the two guest rooms each have twin beds. The master bath has a bathtub and shower. The house has wireless access.

The Great Room has a two story fireplace, conveniently gas fired. There is a panoramic conservatory with 180 degree views, including Cecil B. Demille sunsets.

The view from the house was featured in the September 2007 issue of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The striking Doonagore Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Ireland, is located immediately down the hill from the cottage and is framed by the conservatory windows. A round tower built c.1350, Doonagore Castle was entirely restored in 1975.

The cottage is surrounded by grazing cattle, lending another level of tranquility to the idyllic setting.

A circular driveway brings guests close to the front door, should there ever be inclement weather! We joke that our favorite occupation is sitting in the conservatory and watching the weather change.

When the cottage was being built, one of the builders suggested naming the cottage. He said we should name it Draiocht, which means a magical place, and it is.

Breathtaking views and charm abound

We absolutely loved this property. It's situated on a grassy hill above a beautiful tower ruin and the sea. The town of Doolin is darling with lots of little shops and the great pub Gus O'Connors, and the larger town of Lisdoonvarna has supplies like a pharmacy, market, gas, etc. Easy to find. Clean. Great views. I wish we could have stayed a month!

Wow!

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful home! The view is stunning….imagine overlooking a castle! It is very easy to get from the house to the little town of Doolin and it is a perfect location to visit the Cliffs of Moher (an absolute must do)! Elizabeth was lovely to work with! We hope to return someday!

A Slice of Heaven

Our family absolutely loved the stay in Doolin! The house was spectacular in every way. To top things off, we lucked out with some great weather. Inside, the view from the Observatory down to the Doonagore Castle and the village/coastline never ceased to refresh and inspire. Outside, we enjoyed our daily walks into the village (1 mile) or to the Cliffs Walks which start just before entering the village. We even enjoyed the peaceful walk back up the hill, although the last leg near the castle gets very steep. When we reflected on our highlights from Doolin, we all agreed this quiet walk made us appreciate Doolin all the more. On a side note, although the road was lightly travelled, we brought along a reflector vest and flashlight for added safety. A shorter hike but also rewarding was to walk down to Castle and take a left at The Clare Jam sign. This road was flat and overlooked the Cliffs Walks and the Aran Islands beyond. Other highlights during our 5 days included the Doolin Ferry ride to the small island. Be sure to book the ferry that returns alongside the cliffs for some majestic views. We also booked Martin Murphy from Private Tours for a half-day Burren tour. A must if you have time. For a small town, Doolin has 3 great pubs, as well as several great dining spots including a Michelin Star restaurant. Our favorite was The Ivy Cottage. To sum up, our families quick one or two words about our stay were: magical, quaint, scenic, well appointment & a slice of heaven!

Stunning Property and View

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful home. The views are stunning. Home is gorgeous and perfect for a family. Large lawn to play games and the round room in front looks over the castle and was a favorite hangout. Exceptional property!

Beautiful home. Wonderfully appointed.

My two cousins and I stayed at this warm inviting home. As the house had three bedrooms en-suite it fitted our needs beautifully. So many extras available (bedding, towels, excellent basics in the kitchen). Would highly recommend this home as a wonderful base. The views were absolutely stunning.

Return Visit

This was our second stay at this cottage in Doolin. This time some of our family joined us. Everyone was taken by the charm and comfort of the house. They were captivated by the view from the conservatory and we all spent time outside on the property drinking our morning coffee or tea. The house is well situated on the Wild Atlantic Way so we could visit Dingle and Galway. Both Niall and Deidre were gracious caretakers. Our two weeks in Doolin are now a forever memory

Awesome views!

We loved this house the moment we saw it! It sits high on a hill above the sea and a castle! You can see the Aran islands and the cute town of Doolin below. Sunsets were amazing! We walked down the steep hill to Doolin once. Very difficult climb back up so we didn’t do it again. The house was just right for the 4 of us. The viewing room was where we spent all of our time. It was our first time in Ireland and this house was the perfect Ireland setting!

An Idyllic Home Base to Explore the Wild Atlantic Way

We simply loved this gem just a stones throw from the small town of Doolin. It is a wonderful home base for exploring the wild Atlantic way but also perfect if you just want to sit outside (or in the lovely living room!), looking out over the ocean and the castle practically on the doorstep! Don't miss a meal at Homestead Cottage, a five minute drive away. We would return in a heartbeat!

Perfect house in a perfect location

The view of the castle and ocean out the back windows was an incredible way to start the day. Hiked to the Cliffs of Moher & took the ferry from Doolin to the Aran Islands. The house is charming, comfortable & quiet. Highly recommend it.

Castles and the sea

It is not easy to be cozy and spectacular at the same time, but this is both. Along with the view of the castle and Aran Islands, we were also impressed with the furniture and lovely artwork. The washer and dryer were a plus. There are a number of pubs within a short drive, but little far for walking. Indeed the cottage is wonderfully located, close to Galway, the Cliffs, and the fabulous Doolin Cave. Indeed this cottage is a gem.

Breathtaking!

Absolutely wonderful!! The cottage was beautiful and offered everything we needed!! The view out the back was SO phenomenal, it brought tears to my eyes!! I could of stayed there forever! Our cow neighbors were great! The individual bathrooms were awesome. We celebrated my daughter’s 21st birthday while staying here :). Was a short drive to town and to the ferry. We all were soooo happy and in aw of this property!!! Thank you!

Amazing stay in Doolin

This is a beautiful home with a postcard amazing castle view. We enjoyed every minute and only wish we could have stayed longer. Any questions were responded to very quickly by the O’Dwyers. I would definitely stay here again if we ever have the chance to come back to Ireland. A magical place.

The home was actually portrayed in the overview. Lovely, warm and comfortable. My only concern was the mattresses. They were worn and old. Really need to be replaced.
