This home was perfect for our family vacation, with plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 kids. Location was great, easy to take day trips to Marquette and Pictured Rocks. Or just hanging out on the lake and taking in beautiful sunsets. Highly recommend!
Our family had a reunion at this wonderful property. There was plenty to do on the lake with kayaks, paddleboat, canoe, lifejackets and a sauna too! We enjoyed beautiful sunsets, a very quiet lake setting, and it was convenient for visiting family and friends. We also enjoyed the outside covered deck and grill-we certainly hope to do it again next summer!
We had a wonderful stay at this property. The lake is beautiful, lots of water toys to keep everyone happy. The house is well stocked and clean. It is very quiet and peaceful!
We had a fantastic time with our family. The property was a gem and stocked with everything we could imagine. We made good use of the games and water activities. It was easy to find, with plenty of parking for our 3 vehicles. The hosts were perfectly communicative and even remembered my mom’s birthday! Would absolutely stay again
We had 2 families stay in this lake house for just over a week. Kids ranged from 11 to 18. It made a great base for day trips all over the UP and for our more relaxed days 'at home'. The outdoor space was perfect. Plenty of shade available all day, but there are sunny spaces available for any sunbathers as well. The sandy shoreline was perfect for pulling kayaks and the SUP in and out as needed. The lake was clear and the bluegill fishing was good. A local caught a good sized pike right in front of the dock! Beautiful sunsets across the lake. The TVs with Roku and wifi made the kids happy for the cool mornings and a bit of downtime before bed. Not a ton of privacy for the upstairs bedrooms, but it didn't bother anyone enough to knock off a star. The interior was spacious and well supplied. Couches were so comfy the lazy kids liked sleeping on them rather than going upstairs. :) I didn't use the sauna, but some of our group did and loved it. All in all a great place to stay.
Very impressed with the property. We has enough room for our group to spread out and enjoy our stay. Lake has amazing views and sunsets are gorgeous! Host was very responsive when needed.
Our family get together was wonderful due to the accommodations at this property. All communication was easy and responses were quick. We loved that outside area that allowed us to enjoy the lake and wildlife even in the rain. We have never stayed in a VRBO rental that was offered as many amenities. Thank you Carrie for sharing your beautiful property with us.
This was our 3rd annual stay at the Big Shag and it gets better every year. This year we had the added bonus of a sauna which was great with the cool weather week we had. Carrie and Mojo are the best! They take excellent care of their property and make sure that their guests have everything they could possibly need. We hope to continue to make memories at this beautiful place. Thank you Carrie and Mojo!!
We had a great stay at Carrie's place! Beautiful westerly sun set views. We loved hanging out at all the outdoor places, even if it rains you can eat outside under the pergola!
Well stocked kitchen, comfy places to hang out and play games.
A really great place! Highly recommend!
This property has everything you could ever want for a vacation getaway. Everything is well stocked in the kitchen, linens, games, and outdoor activities. The only downside is the bedrooms upstairs. Three of them are upstairs—one is open to the stairs and the other two have doors, but are open to the living room/kitchen below. This would not be a problem, except we had babies who did not sleep well….so noise carries to all three rooms. If you don’t have small babies that may not sleep well, this is the place for you. We will definitely be back if it’s available when the grandchildren are older. I would highly recommend it!
Amazing property! Our family of six adults aged 72-38 and two teenagers stayed here for a week, and loved every minute of our stay! We were never bored, and we all thoroughly enjoyed all of the water toys available (canoe, three kayaks, a paddle board, and 4 person pedal boat, plus floats, swim noodles and fishing poles). We could each be on the water doing our own thing, and at our own pace. Inside there was plenty of space for all of us, and lots of games to use. The house is less than 5 minutes from a small grocery store, and a delicious lodge restaurant that we ate at twice. The location is great; 20minutes drive from the Sawyer airport, and 35 minutes from Marquette. We ended every night on the porch and were treated to gorgeous sunsets almost every night. This property is exceptional, and such a gem!
The easier question to ask yourself regarding this property is "what is there NOT to do?" because that list will be much shorter.
It's located near the airport and many major roads leading to many attractions in the area.
It is on a lake, with ample access to personal water craft.
It is cozy for when the weather is bad.
It is a great base when the weather is great.
We had amazing weather for our week at Big Shag Lake! Sunny and 80’s every day- you couldn’t ask for better! The house has plenty of space to spread out and have your own spot if you want to but we usually hung out together outside or in the room overlooking the lake. We took short daytrips to Marquette ((Sugarloaf was awesome), Munising, Pictured Rocks, waterfalls, etc. But, mostly, we just enjoyed the lake. The kayaks, canoe, paddle board, and the relaxing feel was just what we all needed. The house was well stocked with everything we needed to have a great week!
This is our 3rd annual friends snowmobiling trip to the Yoop and our getaway in Gwinn did not disappoint! Due to trail conditions, we definitely packed on more smiles than miles, and were grateful we had such a spacious and comfortable place to stay on Big Shag! Carrie and Mojo, you have a beautiful place that was perfect for our group of 6. It was well equipped with everything we needed and we appreciated not having a laundry list of to-do’s upon departure. Thank you for your hospitality! We will be back!

Great location on the lake, clean property that almost seems larger than the pictures show which was a nice surprise. Nice amenities in the house and for the lake. Carrie is easy to communicate with.
The VRBO location was perfect. We were in the area for a color tour and the area did not disappoint. We woke up every morning to beautiful colors enhanced by the steam rising from the lake. The area is quite and peaceful. We went to local cities during the day and it was extremely busy and it was nice to get back to the lakes peace and quite. The home was perfect. Carrie does of a great job of stocking the home with everything you could need. Thanks for making your home our home for the week.
This was our second time renting this lovely lake house for our annual summer trip and it just gets better each time.If your idea is easy check in, flawless communication, relaxation, perfect accommodations and the water toys at your disposal then this gem is for you.
