The space
THE NUCKY JOHNSON SUITE - QUEEN SIZE BED
IT IS A SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY HISTORICAL LANDMARK. IT IS A VICTORIAN MANSION BUILT IN 1884.
IT WAS A BORDELLO DURING THE LATE 1800S, AND THEN BECAME A HANGOUT FOR NUCKY JOHNSON (FOR WHOM THE SHOW "BOARDWALK EMPIRE" ON HBO WAS BASED ON) - DURING THE PROHIBITION DAYS.

"So this place was a brothel in the 1800's and where mobsters would hide massive quantities of alcohol during the days of prohibition. A gangster was whacked in the basement after messing up on an order, and a young wife hung herself in room 7 after catching her cheating husband with a whore. Also, there's a ghost in the attic and he locks the door behind me from time to time." - Sam Trocki, proprietor of Tavern on the Bay (B&B/ steakhouse). Such a soulful joint with risidual traces of secrecy lingering in the air. You can feel it. These old walls have a story to tell....
In the meantime, present time...
Sitting on the rooftop in this charming, but grande, inviting, yet mysterious abode asking the mermaid to direct me with her compass.
Maybe I'll stay a night or two and get myself a tasty ribeye and a whiskey on the rocks, while listening to the old sailors docked in the marina exchanging stories of life in the open sea." - Anoynomous

Room needed some TLC and a good cleaning

I'll start with the good - the manager Joseph was incredible! We had to text him several times and he always responded quickly. The bed was comfortable and the location great. Now for the bad - there were many windows in our room, and on one the shade was broken and couldn't be lifted and another window had no shade at all. There were holes and stains on the bath towels and stains on the chair. The floor was dirty - we had to wipe our feet off before putting on our shoes. There was dust on the furniture, and someone else's underwear in one of the drawers. There was a glob of conditioner on the shower wall. The coffee maker didn't work properly. The TV didn't work - Joseph spent a good 20 minutes on it and got it to work. For the price we paid, it definitely wasn't worth it.

Nice but could be better.

The location is beautiful. You are right on the bay with beautiful views. But check in is at 4 pm. We got there at 4:30 and we still didn’t have bath towels in our bathroom(which smelled alittle musty.) Also, we had many windows in room 7 but the shades were stained and some didn’t work. I had to manually roll the shade up to see our view😔 The manager seemed very nice but he definitely needs more help. Anthony the server was also nice. All in all. We felt the place needs some tlc and more staff to help out.

Property has potential

The property needs some work, but the property manager, Joe was a stellar host. All the quirks we noticed after checking in were acknowledged and he did his very best to assist us with everything we needed. We loved the uniqueness of the building, but it definitely would benefit from a few repairs and upgrades.

Great location, lovely room

Lovely old building in a very convenient location. The setup is a little odd. It’s kind of a restaurant/kind of a hotel. When the restaurant is closed, there’s no staff on the property. But the contact person was very accommodating. Came right over when we wanted to check in early. And the room was large and very nicely decorated

Charming boutique hotel & Restaurant

Joseph the guest manager was terrific. We only needed a 1 night stay. The room was clean, comfortable with lots of amenities- TV, small fridge, glassware, shampoo and conditioner. Good value.
