The cabin was great! Bed very comfy! Had all we needed for our weekend ! We swam fished took a sunset cruise and rented a sea doo ! Very fun weekend and a great time away !!
We enjoyed staying here. The property is well-kept and very clean. Beds were comfortable and plenty of linens available. Everything is very tidy. Perfect location to enjoy the outdoors. The yard area is well manicured. The fishing dock has plenty of space for fishing and we enjoyed using the canoes. Peaceful mornings and evenings on the house deck or dock.
This property was everything we could wish for in a lakeside cabin. Secluded, quiet & beautiful land complete with a gas grill, fire pit, porch seating for cool evening dinners, spacious dock for lazy days fishing or swimming and a canoe with paddle’s & various sized life jackets for exploring lake Smith. The cabin was super clean with all of the necessities. The beds & linens are comfy with extra blankets just in case. We loved our stay & recommend to everyone.
Cabin is well stocked, very clean, lots of privacy. Comfortable for a couple and our pet. We pulled a 17 foot fishing boat and was able to manage getting in and out of the concrete driveway. Owner responds quickly and supplies all needed information.
Loved this charming cabin. The hosts have done a great job updating it so it has everything you could want, and is homey and comfortable. The spot is very private with trees all around unlike some lake properties that have all the natural growth cut down. Plus I was able to bring my little dog. We’ll be back!
We met are Airman for his birthday. The cabin was off the beaten track and was cozy, cute, quiet and relaxing. We had fun fishing, playing cards and spending time together. Little lizard scampered about, the canoes offered a way to be on the lake and we enjoyed evenings grilling out and by the fire. The owner was helpful, accommodating, and replied to all our request and needs immediately. Wonderful getaway!
My husband and I along with our maltipoo went for a short weekend getaway and it was wonderful. The house is perfect for a small family. The house had everything we needed and the Wifi was a huge plus since we had no service.
We enjoyed fishing— there’s always a bite no matter where you go in the lake.
The check-in process was smooth and we have no complaints. We look forward to returning.
This is a lovely property with an excellent cozy cottage feel. There was much thought put into the construction details, including the flooring, kitchen cabinets, and picture windows that provides great views of the water from the living room and master bedroom. It feels so comfortable to just relax on the couch and enjoy the views while sipping coffee.
There is an abundance of amenities for staying in to prepare your own meals, including an outdoor grill and outdoor seating.
The location is very convenient to the wilderness, which was our main attraction to the area. We loved hiking the Sipsey Wilderness and highly recommend it.
If you are looking for a comfortable place to relax and enjoy the great outdoors, including the water, this is an excellent place. We would definitely want to return again and again.
The pictures do not do this place justice. It was the cutest cabin we've ever stayed in and we have stayed in many! The place was clean, decorated very homey, and I cook all 3 meals a day and the kitchen had almost everything we could ever have needed (a blender for salsa would be nice, but not necessary). We drove to two locations fairly close in Sipsey woods and hiked to two gorgeous waterfalls and the rest of the time canoed around the lake. It was the PERFECT spring break with my soon to be going to college kids. Hoping to visit again as we love Smith Lake and this place was the best we've stayed in so far for the size.
Very clean and cozy cabin! There were ants, but I guess that’s to be expected in the woods. Check in instructions were thorough and easy to follow. Would recommend!
This is the perfect place to recharge and relax while spending time in the woods and on Smith lake. Our stay was very comfortable and we had everything we needed in the house. The dock was perfect to swim and canoe from. We will be back!
We def enjoyed our stay! We took our pups and enjoyed canoeing, and hanging out waterfront. House was peaceful and quiet, wifi worked perfectly and great communication with Jonathan! We can’t wait to be able to book again!

About the host
Hosted by Jon Wesson
We have been married for more than thirty years and work together in a small law practice. Jon sees to Scout's Hideaway, keeping it in pristine shape for our guests. I (Jackie) teach law three times per week. We have cats, dogs, chickens, and bees here at home and foster animals for some local rescues. Nature is our means of rejuvenating, replenishing our stores, and calming our minds.
Why they chose this property
We built Scout's Hideaway so that we would have a place that, while close to home, feels like it is a million miles away. Worries melt and stress disappears when we visit this wonderful getaway. Our guests say the same thing. There is something magical here and we see it and feel it year-round - from the wildflowers in the spring, the lush greens of summer reflecting in the water, the beautiful copper and brown leaves of fall, or the quiet stillness of winter. The large 6-foot windows afford expansive vistas no matter the time of year.
What makes this property unique
Large three acre lot with 220 feet of shoreline.
