Lazy River Ranch - A Relaxing, Mountain, Fishing Retreat
Located in the beautiful Tarryall Valley with scenic historic preservation sites along the winding picturesque byway, Lazy River Ranch is a working hay and cattle ranch. It is also a well-stocked premier fly-fishing paradise. It's a wonderful place to unplug as there is no internet, phone or TV service. The RMAC leases the river from the owner. If you wish to fish, arrangements can be made at the time of booking for day passes. Passes cost $35/per person per day. If your group is more than 4 or you wish to play in the river and tube the block of the river is $140/day. 24' rainbow trout are not uncommon nor is the sighting of large elk, deer and big horn sheep. The elk and deer come down to the river in late evening or early morning to drink. A skillful hunter will even see wild turkey and sage grouse. At 8,800 to 9,000', the 160 acre ranch backs to the Lost Creek Wilderness and offers spectacular views from hiking trails that can take you up to 12,000' in elevation. The ranch house - completed in 2008 - is beloved by the owners for its location and beauty.
The river is strictly fly fishing, catch and release (additional fee passes required) on 1¼ miles of stream bordered by some willows winding through irrigated hay meadows in a gently rolling valley bottom. You will hear coyotes and owls at night as you star gaze at a sky where you will clearly see the Milky Way and more stars than you knew existed. There is an outdoor fireplace to keep you warm and for roasting marshmallows. After just a day or two you will feel like you have finally gotten that long-needed rest. As your cares melt away you will see the world in a whole new light - come visit and discover!
It's an easy 85 mile drive South West of Denver or 60 miles North West of Colorado Springs. Ask for directions when you make your reservation.

This is our third time staying at Lazy River Ranch - this time with the other side of our family. It was so fun to go in the fall and thankfully the weather cooperated and was warm and beautiful. We fished a lot, hiked, flew kites, and explored. This is one of our kids’ favorite places to visit (ours too). We will look forward to returning again!
We love coming back to this wonderful spot. It has become a place we love to come back to with our grown children and their families.
The scenery.is lovely, the house has everything we need. The stream is an added bonus, with lovely hiking and exploring.
The host could not be better.
In short, we love this place and all that it has to offer.
It is out of the way, so it is important to think about what supplies you will need. There are some basic supplies within 30 minutes of the house.
When we leave, we can't wait to think about our next visit.
If you’re a fly fisherman, this is the type of property you dream about! A secluded cabin with the Tarryall Creek winding it’s way through the hay meadows. Incredibly peaceful with wonderful fishing! A true gem and one of our favorite places to visit. Will definitely be back.
This was our third time visiting the property, and our family had another amazing time. The house has more than enough space for a few families, and the children loved the kid's bedrooms and bunk areas. We spent time hanging out on the patio, exploring the property, hiking around the forest land, and of course excellent fishing in the river. It was a bit overgrown and buggy for kids to enjoy the river, so we may have to find another time to come back in the fall. Tarryall reservoir is right down the road, as is another wonderful park with great trails. Overall, you can't beat the seclusion of the property and number of activities.
We have stayed at this property many times, and each time is more special than the last.
We love the location, the roomy house, and the beautiful scenery.
This is an ideal property for families or two families.
The location is a tad remote so bring your supplies. If you forget something, it is a beautiful drive to nearby towns.

Family Reunion
Great get away for a family reunion. Plenty of space for everyone to eat, sleep and play. We caught of few moments of fishing on the river early in the morning and later in the day, and Tarryall Reservoir was close by with great fishing and hiking. The only downfall was the mosquitoes...so we used up plenty of repellant!!

Huge Ranch, Great Fishing, Endless Exploration
Wow - really the best property we have stayed in Colorado. There were 5 of us here, primarily for fishing around the area. We went to the Dream Stream for a day, but realized there were trophies right in front of us with no competition. Its really a huge property to explore, and backs up to public land. The area to explore is virtually endless. Wonderful stay!
This place is so much bigger than expected. We had 10 in our group and everyone had their own bedrooms. And with 4 bathrooms....there is so much privacy and never a wait! This house is clean and well kept. It's located in a beautiful mountain setting, surrounded by cattle grazing. We enjoyed our time very much. Looking forward to going again!
The facility was a little funky and somewhat quirky. Old range and older refrigerator that froze our eggs. But, it was clean, well accessorized, homey and comfortable. Its location is amazing. The vistas are stunning. Tarryall Creek was fun to fish. All and all, we had a terrific time.
My wife and I are big fly fisherman and this property is hands down one of THE BEST on all of VRBO. There are not many places where you can find over 1 mile of stream to fish that only you have access to. The fishing is excellent with an abundance of trout eager to eat your dry fly! We caught browns, rainbows, and cutt-bows in the stream. A skilled fisherman can literally catch 3-4 fish in every bend of the river. We saw Elk, big horn sheep, and plenty of hummingbirds. We had a chance to meet the owner and chat with her and her husband briefly as we checked in. They were great people and we felt so blessed that they were willing to share their little slice of heaven with us! We will definitely return to this absolutely amazing property.
Excellent experience. Property was much nicer than the pictures show. We loved the party barn where games were played. Loved the cool weather. We visited neighboring towns and the national monument. Went on many hikes. Fun family time!
Mosquitoes were a real problem in the area. Bring your bug spray. We might suggest a little better house cleaning. Clothes were left downstairs and puzzles pieces on the rug in the main floor. The floor was dusty also.
Just mentioned that for improvement. We loved the house, host and area and considered it a great rent.
What a great winter vacation! We are from Cape Canaveral, Florida and my sons (4 & 10) had never seen snow. We arrived on Christmas day and checked out on 12/31. It was wonderful and everything described on Vrbo. The river was frozen so my kids spent hours playing/skating on the ice. The barn had so much fun. The house was spacious and well-stocked with non-tech family fun. They even offered to get us some frozen pizza and drinks since we were arriving on Christmas day when nothing was open! The house was clean, the bathrooms stocked with supplies, TP/paper towels are provided, and other basic stuff like dish soap, hand soap, trash bags, spices, etc are provided. The ONLY thing we found lacking were spoons! LOL We could only find 4 spoons so on chili night we ate in shifts because there weren't enough spoons for everyone. We laughed and discovered later a box of plastic utensils in the mud hall. They weren't kidding when they said how far away everything was but we considered the road time just part of our trip. We will definitely be back again, prob in the summer. A wonderful place that I highly recommend!
My family and I stayed at the cabin over Christmas and it was wonderful. The cabin was very nice and warm, tons of space, and the owners were also very kind.
Beautiful drive up to the house. Nice and quite property , well off the road . Best equipped home I have rented. Big house with plenty of sleeping arrangements. The river was very low but might be a good June summer trip to fish the river on the property.
We have returned to this wonderful property many times. Each time it feels like coming home. The owners are so responsive, the house is perfect for large families. The house is well equipped and the property is perfect for hiking, river activities, and relaxing.
The house is located in a beautiful valley with many wild animals, moose, elk, deer, coyotes, beaver, etc. It is just a wonderful spot to spend time with family and friends playing horseshoes, relaxing around the fire-pit, lying in the hammock, and playing games.
This property has something for everyone! Peace & quiet, with fun in between. The outdoor play area was my favorite. We played music, pretty loud😉, played pinball and darts. While others enjoyed hanging out at the firepit, or one of the other 4 hangouts. The screened porch is awesome with plenty of room for my large family, we got to see lots of humming birds! Like mentioned in previous reviews, the bugs are out! Beware and take lots of bug spray. The place is well stocked with so many day to day items, the hostess has thought of everything 😀. We all had a really great time and are already planning or trip back!
Plenty of space to spread out and enjoy nature. Great screened in porch with awesome views. Fishing was excellent on the property. Simple efficient communication and check in/out process.
Our family group of 11 (3 adult couples and 5 kids) had an absolute blast at the Lazy River Ranch! Beautiful property, huge, clean house, and our time spent down on the river was incredible. We will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Kaitrin
The owner is a geologist who enjoys all the rock formations in the area. The ranch was purchased as a retreat from a work life of international travel and long hours. It has been a life saver. The picture, taken circa 2007 is of owner's daughter and friend.
Why they chose this property
We bought property in this location because it is close enough to Denver to go for a short weekend and yet it is secluded enough that you really feel you have gotten away. It is a wonderful site for family reunions, weddings and small company retreats.
What makes this property unique
We have always enjoyed the fishing and hunting - both are first class. We have gone many years without buying beef. Our children have enjoyed years of fun in the outdoors with their friends. We used to give them each a dollar and they would walk a mile or so to the country store to buy candy. That kept them busy and out of our hair! They also spent hours playing in the river. Now they come and bring their children and teach them the same love of the outdoors that they have.
