J’adore l’appartement de Diana ! For three years now during the winter months, I have stayed in Diana’s apartment in Antibes. Would I return if I did not like it? In fact, I have already spoken to her about returning next year.
Most visitors spend their time in Antibes, which is a short walk, maybe 15 minutes, from La Plage de la Salis (the beach) and her apartment to the center of town. However, I recommend also walking the other way to Juan-les-Pins. It is the same distance. There you will find a more expansive beach, more restos along and on the beach, a wonderful café called the Café de la Plage, my favorite cafe spot, where you can wile away the hours looking at the Mediterranean Sea and the sunset, if you go later into the afternoon, of course.
You don’t want to walk anywhere? You want to kick back, read, get a sun tan, and not have to fuss with finding a restaurant. No problem. Her apartment is a half block from the sandy beach. In the same building on the corner and across from the beach is an excellent restaurant with a chef who worked once in a starred restaurant. On another corner is a pizza place. A short walk away (5 minutes) is a pastry and sandwich place and next to it is one of my favorite restaurants in Antibes, Le Romarin. Go to the beach, get a sun tan, take a step or two to the resto, eat a wonderful meal, return to the beach and catch a few more rays. Not bad for a vacation.
My other favorite part of staying in Diana’s apartment, apart from the many, many restaurants in Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, is the public transportation system. It is so easy to take the little navette #14, which stops at the apartment building, to the train station, and then to hop a train to Nice or Monaco or Italy or to go the other direction to Cannes or to Saint Raphael and catch a boat to St Tropez.
I have been comfortable in the apartment. It has a full kitchen, two full balconies, shiny marble floors that are very cool during the hot summers months, wall sized windows that can open to let the breeze blow through the rooms. Diana has done an excellent job of making the apartment a very desirable place to stay on the Riviera.
