The house suited our family gathering perfectly. We cooked all our meals together and the rental had almost everything we wanted, and many kitchen tools we didn't expect. The rooms were comfortable, the house is well maintained, the hot tub was delightful and the neighborhood was ideal for us - easy drive (or walk) to xc skiing and to the lake.
The house has a great layout and is very comfortable. There is an open floor plan on main level with living room / dinning room / kitchen all connected, underneath high ceilings and tons of natural light. This space opens up on to a great deck with outdoor seating, BBQ and a hot tub. Two bedrooms and a bathroom complete the level. Upstairs, there a workspace, additional full bathroom and lofted bedroom. It's a great layout and makes for an easy and comfortable stay. Highly recommended. Property owner is very accessible and friendly as well. We look forward to coming back again!
A much needed vacation for the week! The property was just as advertised. Convenient to many local attractions and except for the summer heat wave, was a perfect week. Jim was a great host!
We loved our stay in Tahoe! The location is perfect, close to activities without being in the middle of everyone. It's very comfy and spacious, and the hot tub was the absolute highlight.
The house had everything we needed. We were able to cook meals in the well-stocked kitchen, which saved us from having to deal with crowds at the restaurants. The beds were very comfortable, bathrooms were clean, and there was nice space in the living room to lounge and watch movies at night. We also loved being able to have our dog with us. There's a trailhead a short walk up the street that gave her space to run and explore. We all loved the big balcony to sit and read in the afternoon and of course soak in the hot tub each night.
Jim was an excellent host and gave us great suggestions around the area. Can't wait to return!
Everything was to expectations or beyond based on property description and other favorable reviews. We enjoyed being close to the Tahoe cross country center. Owner was very friendly and checked in with us when the Christmas blizzard was forecasted. Unfortunately we decided to leave earlier than planned due to potential for weather related travel problems. We would definitely like to return in the future.
We had a great stay! House was exactly as described. Jim was fantastic letting us borrow his beach chairs and available for questions! We were completely comfortable
My husband, two teenagers and I had a great stay at Jim’s place. The house was great for hanging out and relaxing. We loved eating on the deck, reading on the comfortable living room furniture and spending time in the hot tub. We were a 5-minute drive to town and could get anywhere in Lake Tahoe within an hour or so (depending on traffic). Jim was an excellent host, providing access to beach chairs and inflatable tubes as well as good recommendations for nearby activites and restaurants. We hope to come back someday!
We had the absolute best stay with Jim. Incredible hospitality and communication. The property was very spacious and Jim made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend staying here!
The property is in a great location, a few miles from Tahoe City and Kings Beach. It’s also very close to Skylandia State Park Beach.
Jim is a great host, very communicative and help with local advice and suggestions.
The house is well equipped and comfortably accommodated 6 adults.
Jim's Tahoe City castle is the perfect place to stay. Miles of hiking/biking/snowshoeing right up the street, all the amenities of Tahoe City a short drive away, and the public lake access less than a 20 min walk. The house is also outfitted with a killer sound system and a great library of books/movies. Even more impressive was Jim's hospitality! He made us feel at home and gave us help when we needed, offering all kinds of tips, and left us plenty of privacy. We stayed for a month, but I'd recommend it for any duration!
Woodsy neighborhood, modern, roomy, comfortable and HOT tub
Larger than we needed (this place could easily handle 6-8) but finding rental with a nice outdoor hot tub always limits our searches. All nice, clean, comfortable and nice outdoor grille which we used. Also close to Tahoe City, where we had three nice dine IN dinners, and we toured many spots all along Tahoe North coast, from West to East side.
My husband and I, along with our two pups, had an amazing stay here and will be back! The property was very nice and the location was perfect. Very close to downtown Tahoe City and only minutes away from the beach and great hiking options. We enjoyed using the BBQ grill on the property and loved having use of the hot tub after a long day of hiking. Jim was a great host, always available to answer any questions and was very welcoming. We can't to come back!
We really enjoyed our time here. It was the perfect getaway from the city during this pandemic and we were able to work and enjoy all that North Lake has to offer. Jim was a great host!
This is a great property and Jim was a wonderful host! We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, grill, and comfy reclining couches during our stay. Jim was very responsive to all our needs and made us feel at home. We look forward to staying here again!
Had a fabulous time here over New Year's! We're a family with a toddler, and it was fantastic being a <10-minute drive away to the grocery store and Tahoe City. The house is clean and the kitchen was stocked with convenient goods, and the owner was highly communicative and checked in with us to make sure that we had everything with needed. Would definitely recommend!
Fabulous place to stay. Would highly recommend the property and the owner
Went as a family of 6 for Thanksgiving. The property was spacious enough that we had our own time. It was very warm and cosy especially with all the snow outside. The hot tub was great too. Will definitely be back again
Great Location. Loved the hot tub. Jim was available to answer any questions. Beds were comfortable.

Great place for our family.
Our kids loved the extra large bunk beds and hot tub. Great place to sit in the hot tub after a full day of skiing. Nice quiet neighborhood and still close to all downtown shops and stores. We’ll go back.

Great Family Gathering Home!
Our family came in from Illinois, Philadelphia and Berlin to enjoy a week together of relaxation and birthday celebrations. Initially disappointed that we were unable to go to Yosemite due to forest fires, we chose Tahoe as our 2nd choice and we are glad that we did. When we arrived Jim greeted us and gave us a quick overview of the electronics, lighting internet etc. as well as a few area activities and bikes and rafts etc. We found the home to very clean, with up to date appliances and furnishings. The deck with gas grill, slate topped dining table, lounge chairs and spacious hottub were a definate plus. Though the the air quality and visibility were a bit rough the first couple of days, it eventually returned to normal levels, Great week, we highly recommend it.

About the host
Hosted by Jim Kunkel
I reside in Tahoe area now. I had a great career, and decided this was a great place to work from. Thus, it's well set up for an office or two for those that can't escape. I enjoy golfing, biking, rafting and fly-fishing...all things to do in this area and can share my toys to make for a more enjoyable, complete vacation. Would be happy to join in to your group should you want some interaction, helping with food and transportation.
Why they chose this property
Years ago, this simple house was bought as an investment by single roommates looking for a ski lease. It has evolved to a much larger place with all season benefits.
What makes this property unique
Sitting in the hot tub watching the stars or being snowed on. Sitting with a drink, listening to good music. Wine tasting and BBQing on the main upper deck, entertaining old friends and new. Mountains bike rides at the Nordic Center, just up the hill, is great especially in the evenings. The bike lake/river trail is a couple hundred yards away...paved to Squaw Valley, 8 miles away, mostly riding along the Truckee River where rafting can be a great summer adventure.
