Short vacation stay

Property is out in no mans land. Exactly as advertised and very rustic. More for hunters than for the sverage joe. Loved how quiet it was. It was just what we wanted and expected. The owner is fantastic.

"The cabin in the woods" you truly are in the middle of nowhere.

We had a good time while we were there. Keep your food in the fridge or on the table or the mice get into it. The owner is very nice and his dog is very lovable. Not the cleanest place but good enough for a week of fishing.

The property was advertised as a 2 bedroom lake front apartment. It was actually a partially finished studio miles from a lake and isolated from any other buildings.

The pictures of the inside of the unit mislead you. The outside is a 3 unit apt like bldg.

The bath tub was stained and not usable to shower in. Floors are not level and bugs crawled under the front door. The kitchenette was very well maintained. Overall. If you need a place to stay, the owner is easy to work with and accessible as he lives next door on the property.

The cabin was several miles off the main road on a dirt road and was very quiet and comfortable. It was an easy drive on the road to the cabim. The internet was very good. The air conditioner was connected to the window but did a great job in cooling the cabin. The owner lived next door and was very helpful. We spent one night and didn't cook but there was a kitchen, Bathroom wth tub/shower. This was a very rural area and not many restaurants, stores or activites nearby but very peaceful and restful if that is what you are looking for.

BEWARE!!! NIGHTMARE!

Host called the afternoon of the first nights stay to state that the property was double booked for the night. He refused to cancel through VRBO. Leaving me holding the bag. VRBO only provided a partial refund because the host would not cancel even though the property was already occupied. I did not stay here.

I felt the cabin was pretty clean and the sheets were crisp, however the windows are rotted out and no longer have locks. The rest of the property had duck and geese. There were a couple poly plastic leantos on to the hous. Many hoses going in and out of windows. Electric was run in the rest of the property outside with many extention cords. The property did not give a safe, warm and cozy feel. We ended up leaving and staying elsewhere instead.

Far more rustic than we thought

I'm dismayed at the price we had to pay for 3 people to stay for one night, in a place which was clean and quiet but that's about all we can positively say about it. It was: -freezing cold inside upon arrival -the toilet seat moved every time one sat down -the shower/bathtub was quite rusty -the water was foul smelling -the floors were uneven -there were rotten oranges in the fridge The host seemed friendly enough, but communications ahead of time were quite frustrating. I was panicking when I hadn't received the arrival instructions until I texted the host on the morning of the day we checked in - and we were already on the road so didn't know we should bring our own water because the water in the lodge is so bad. We would've been far more comfortable in a hotel, and the total charges would have been comparable I think.

Basic but spacious

It was inexpensive and basic as expected. The cabin was spacious and offered almost all necessities. One draw back was the water which stunk: it had such an extreme sulfur smell, that we even used our own bottled water to wash our faces and brush our teeth and avoided taking a shower. Never experienced something like this before. Also be aware, that the price is per person, which I also never have seen before. My husband who shared the same bed had to pay $20 extra per night!

50yrs getaway.. finally

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in June. We were unable to get away, due to my having broke my hip, then needed a total hip replacement. So instead we decided to go to Itasca state park and the headwaters. I looked for a very rustic place to stay. I found this cabin. Wasn't sure about it when I pulled up in front, as it looked like a small 1960s motel. But once inside, was so happy. It was big enough to be very comfortable. I loved the bunk house feeling I got from it. Reminded me of when we were young and would go to the lake. It was quiet and not far from our goal. They also welcomed our dog... a 120lb shepard / lab mix. That night they brought extra towels and a rose for me for our anniversary. Nice touch, huh? If we could've gotten Fri night we would've stayed longer. I would definitely recommend and stay again.

It was ok.

The appartment was very clean and titiy, but the whole facility looked like it had been created "haphazardly". Things were just out of place. Had to climb on a small stair to use the toilet, lights with no fixtures, and sinks/toilet lid did seem connected.

Just as advertised

This place is just as advertised - rustic, private and comfortable. The host, Jim, is very responsive and accommodating. If you enjoy all the northwoods of MN has to offer and want an inexpensive place to stay, this is a great deal.

Quiet Spot in the Country

Rustic, warm and quiet. We're not neat freaks but we encourage the property owner to have someone pressure wash the bathtub. We understand hard water issues. The tub was very dirty. Encourage prior guests to clean their dishes so next guests aren't greeted with dirty ones in the cupboard. All that said, we would stay here again. It is a nice place to relax and unwind.

Don't Judge a book by its cover.

Cabin was clean and had a rustic vibe. Bed was comfortable and linens where crisp and clean. If your looking for a quiet place to stay with a country feel, this is the place. Jim and his side kick Nola make you feel special and welcome. You can find a place more fancy. However, if you want a few days of peace without the drama...check it out!

About the host

Greetings, I am New Orleans, LA native who relocated to northern Minnesota (Bemidji) in 2015, looking for a new adventure. I am a Systems Engineer by degree and yet have been an Internet Entrepreneur since 2002. I have two grown children and one grandchild.

Why they chose this property

I found this gem of a property in 2017 and bought it immediately after seeing it the first time. With buildings on the property constructed in the early 1900's it's definitely a "fixer-upper". While this place has countless opportunities for enhancement, it's stunningly beautiful with lots of wildlife nearby. I am able to offer the accommodations (cabins/apartments) for rent, short-term and long-term, at affordable prices due to the properties' age and rustic condition.

What makes this property unique

Yola Lodge offers several unique benefits as follows:
LOCATION: We are near (just minutes from) Lake George, MN; Itasca State Park, Bemidji, MN; Park Rapids, MN; and relatively close to Walker, MN.
COST: Yola Lodge offers the most affordable prices in this area.
SUPER-FAST INTERNET: 2GB/sec fiber optic connections.
BEAUTY: We are located in the wilderness close to Itasca State Park, in the Mississippi Headwaters area. Birch Creek and the Schoolcraft River run through the property. Many of our guests report that the beauty of this property rivals Itasca.
CONVENIENT: Located 3 miles up County Road 4, north of Lake George. You can park right in front of your cabin.
AMPLE PARKING: Bring your boat, camper, trailer, ATV's, or whatever you can pull with your car (or drive-in) . There's plenty of space for parking.
