Our checkin process was amazing and Paul even helped us unload and explained everything in the converted barn. The toilet was definitely a new experience but as long as it gets emptied it doesnt put off much of a smell. The kayaks available made for a great time on the lake. We also had the goal of going into Vermont and it was right down the road. Mt. Moosilauke is absolutely stunning and if you like hiking you should 10000% go. Will definitely be interested in staying here again!
My boyfriend and I had a great time. Lake is right across the street. Plenty of kayaks/canoes. No cell service as advertised, but wifi worked pretty well. Would go back again.
From the moment we arrived till the day we left it was so peaceful. It was perfect for my husband and I and the two dogs. We went hiking, swimming with the pups, kayaking, paddleboard, all within minutes of where we were staying.
Paul was an excellent host and it was nice to be able to chat with him or reach out if we needed something (grill ran out of propane and he replaced it right away)
We would highly recommend this location for a nice quiet getaway.
Thank you Paul!!
We went over to Orford to bag a couple of peaks in that area. Paul is a wonderful host. The place is as advertised, cozy and comfortable. We also visited Saint Gaudens just to the south, definitely worth the trip and the town of Windsor in Vt was charming. The weather was uncooperative so we didn’t get in the lake, we will have to do that next time.
We had a great time hiking the AT. The property is located about 1 mile from the trailhead. Sitting on the dock enjoying the fall colors and the bald eagle was great. Paul was a great hosst.
I didn’t want to leave this place. From the loons, hiking, kayaking and swimming it was the best time. My dogs enjoyed it also with so much to do. The description is very accurate and great for the most peaceful stay. If you want to unplug from the world this is the place. Highly recommend!!
The apt is artfully designed, clean and the front windows have a beautiful view of the lake. Hosts are accommodating and available when needed as they live next door ( the apt is over a garage).
Bring slippers, as the floor can be cool due to being over an unheated garage.
I realize now that I should ask more specific questions but in the past I've had no trouble with descriptions. What they described was exactly what I found. Some information that is important to know about this place that if I knew I would not have booked.
1. They live on the premises. The converted barn is actually they're garage/barn and they put in a loft and you are sharing their driveway as they live right next door.
2. Even though they say upto 2 dogs allowed there really isn't any outside place for the dogs to explore or hang out as there isn't a yard and the barn is right up against the side of the woods which is a hill.
3. Although I used "waterfront" as a filter they really aren't waterfront in my opinion. You need to cross the dirt road (no biggie) but then go down a rocky steep embankment - anyone with leg issues would have to be careful (I've had hip replacements).
4. there really isn't any "land" to hang out by the water. You have only the floating dock - the picture of the dock is from standing on the other end but no picture of the land area.
The hosts were kind and wanted to know what they could do to make it better but because it wasn't what I had expected or had been looking forward to there really wasn't anything they could do. They offered to move the kayaks to make more room but that still wouldn't have been enough. I was expecting more but now I know to ask more questions and ask for more pictures.
It was a cute little place, just wasn't what I was imagining.
This was a perfect property for a couple's getaway weekend. Location on the lake is idyllic - both the view from the kitchen/dining windows as well as relaxing on the dock. The space itself is cozy and comfortable for two. Hosts are very welcoming and offered some great suggestions for hiking in the area. Would recommend if you're looking to disconnect and relax.
Very nice stay and Paul was a very accommodating host! A good spot to do day trips through New Hampshire and Vermont. Only over an hour to the cog train up Mt Washington!
