Perfect Couple Getaway

This property is A-MA-ZING. It is the sweetest little cottage packed with everything one could possibly need for a stay. It is nestled behind a big, beautiful plantation home with its own driveway. It has a very comfy living area with a full kitchen on one side and a screened in porch on the other. The bedroom and bathroom are upstairs and could not be any better. There are so many extra amenities from shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryer and a basket full of anything you need if you forgot your own toiletries. The attention to detail is spot on. The hosts have attended to every detail imaginable. It is in a great, quiet location close to many restaurants, grocery stores and other attractions.

Our 2nd stay and just as amazing as the first

This was our second time staying at the carriage house and it won’t be our last. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and make the space feel so much like home. It’s comfortable, beautifully maintained, and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. They even welcomed our dog, which means so much to us. The location is fantastic—close to everything but still peaceful and quiet. We truly love this property and can’t recommend it enough!

Wonderful Stay at the Rivermont Carriage House

Super cute carriage house that is very comfortable and impeccably appointed. Holly and Tom thought of everything when they created this cozy place. Crazy good blueberry muffins and home baked dog treats awaited us upon arrival. Highly recommend a stay here when in the Lynchburg area.

Best VRBO house ever

Charming cottage that felt like home

Hidden behind a lovely home on Rivermont, this cottage was the perfect place to spend our holidays near our grandchildren. When we arrived we were spoiled with a plate of bakery blueberry muffins that we indulged in every morning! Yum! The downstairs had everything we needed to make coffee and tea, whip up a quick lunch or even bake a dessert. The bedroom is cozy and the bed is oh so comfortable. It is a quiet and peaceful retreat. The bathroom is spacious and well appointed. All the extras were much appreciated. We even had a washer/dryer in case we needed to do a quick load of laundry. This property is magical and the location is perfect. You can walk into beautiful neighborhoods and stay on the flat part of Lynchburg and still get a good walk in. We were minutes from our family and enjoyed coming home each evening. The extra touches of a Bluetooth jute box and even a Christmas tree made it all so wonderful. Thank you to our hosts for making our Christmas visit so special.

Beautiful Quaint Cottage

Excellent location in Lynchburg, Va easy access to the downtown Lynchburg. Beautiful cottage accommodating two folks. The cottage is nicely decorated and super clean. The host(s) are excellent to work with, as Holly was ever so helpful with our needs. The grounds are immaculate. They gave awesome attention to our poodle, Holly nice touch for Jake. We plan to return in the future.

Perfect for a solo "retreat"

The Carriage House is lovely in every aspect. Its presentation was such that it inspired care for its use. I came for the privacy and solitude; I had creative work to do that required it. Other guests have mentioned the numerous thoughtful amenities, including the blueberry muffins. I appreciated most the screened in patio, for which the late October weather was perfect. Most definitely, the Carriage House is a 5-star place to enjoy.

Perfect weekend spot

We were in Lynchburg for a parent weekend and so happy we found this gem. The carriage house was perfect for us. No detail overlooked and the lovely hosts made us feel welcome. Comfortable accommodations and amenities. They even provided a list of recommendations for local restaurants, etc and we discovered some spots we hadn’t found yet. The Carriage house was beautiful!! The property had everything you could possibly need. Upon arrival their was music playing in the kitchen and muffins on the counter! The bed was SO comfortable. I would highly recommend this property!!

Best VRBO Stay EVER

I quite literally have never walked in to a vacation home and said “wow, this place is so clean and spotless” until staying at this cottage. The hosts are so lovely, their communication was excellent, and the whole home was even more beautiful in person. I ended up having to leave a day earlier because my travel plans changed and I was SO sad. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

A Most Extraordinary Cottage

From the moment we arrived we felt the care of the owners in their attention to every aspect of our comfort. Just entering the grounds of this property created in us a sense of joyful anticipation. The exterior of the cottage is absolutely charming and the grounds are gorgeous. Holly and Tom have created a beautifully appointed space perfect for relaxing and rejuvenating. Upon entering the cottage we were greeted with a personalized welcome sign, a vase of fresh flowers and soft music playing; such nice touches. In every room there are special touches and some nice surprises which made us feel at home. We could go on and on about all that we loved about staying in this sweet cottage but we want to quell our enthusiasm so others can have the pleasure of discovering the delights for themselves. Our only disappointment was that we were in Lynchburg for just a couple of days with a busy schedule and could not spend ALL of our time enjoying the peace of this unique place. However, we are planning to do just that, many times in the future.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Carriage House, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Being a fan of the Rivermont area, I was thrilled to find this gem situated right where I love to be. The moment I arrived, I felt instantly at home. The hosts have truly thought of everything. And the muffins… OMG, if you know, you know – they’re amazing! The Carriage House is equipped with all the amenities you might need, plus those little things you might forget to pack. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and it’s clear that no detail has been overlooked. The place is stocked with books, games, and puzzles, perfect for some cozy downtime. They’ve also provided a wonderful guide to the area, which was spot-on and full of great recommendations. The description on the listing is 100% accurate, and the experience exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend staying here if you get the chance!

Absolutely charming!

I spent three nights at the Carriage House with my 90-lb dog, Freya. Upon arrival, we found personalized welcome cards, fresh muffins for me and a basket of treats and brand-new toys (!) for Freya. Everything, including the coffee, tea, snacks, toiletries provided, was of the highest quality. The grounds had enough space for short walks and exercise, and Riverside Park was just a couple of minutes’ drive down the road for nice longer walks. There is plenty of parking space, the screened-in porch is lovely, and the interior decor is charming. The bedroom and bathroom are both upstairs. Altogether an exquisite place to stay. I highly recommend the Carriage House.

A classic carriage house weekend!!!!

My wife and I were delighted to spend 4 nights at Holly and Tom’s property.The carriage house has been beautifully restored and furnished. We especially enjoyed the screened in porch. Holly’s blueberry muffins were delicious and our coffee habit was met with lots of options. We had a wonderful time exploring Lynchburg. Warm, welcoming and charming Carriage House

We were in town to help move our son to Lynchburg and loved our stay at the Carriage House. It was the perfect place to relax after a long drive and busy week leading up to our trip. Every detail was so thoughtful and the hosts Southern hospitality made us (and our dog Harvey) feel so welcomed.

Cozy Cottage with everything you need!

This cottage is in a beautiful neighborhood of Lynchburg. The cottage itself is cozy, immaculate and beautiful. Everything you need is here, including snacks(granola bars, microwave popcorn and bottled water in the fridge). If you forgot any toiletries, don’t worry, shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes are available in the bathroom. The host has thought of everything. I plan to stay here again in the future.

Very nice, beautiful small cottage.

Our stay was very nice. We enjoyed the privacy. The carriage house is beautifully decorated and has everything you would ever need. The steps are steep and narrow so keep that in mind. It is not a place for anyone with mobility issues.

We lovingly restored our Classic Revival mansion, Victorian carriage house, and tiny chapel. We love traveling, reading, bookstores, our beautiful daughters, and our wonderful pets. We’re world travelers, so we know what you need for comfort. Our favorite countries are Japan, Greece, Italy, the US, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. We live in the mansion on the same property as the carriage house, and are delighted to be your hosts!

Why they chose this property

Lynchburg's Rivermont neighborhood is one of the city's most affluent and historic areas. The neighborhood's history dates back to the 19th century when the Rivermont Bridge was built over Blackwater Creek in 1891, connecting downtown Lynchburg with the Rivermont Avenue neighborhood.

Our 1.5 acre estate is located in a particularly peaceful, private and lush part of the Rivermont Historic District. Beautiful large historic homes separate upper Rivermont from the older parts of Lynchburg. The carriage house was built in 1893, and converted into a guest house 62 years later. In 2019, the carriage house underwent a full restoration. The carriage house is about 70 feet behind the main house and chapel.

While very private, you can see other residential buildings from the carriage house. You may hear the occasional siren, normal neighborhood noise, or train whistle during your stay, but the most common sound is that of silence broken only by birds, or rain on the metal roof.

Please remember that you're staying in a house, not a hotel. Please treat the space with respect. Every stay is important to us; we and our co-hosts work hard to resolve any issues that may arise.

The space is one of a kind. We understand that it may not be for everyone. Our historic carriage house, built 132 years ago, stands 70' behind the main house. It has uneven floors/ceilings, winding stairs to the 2nd floor, and 7'tall sloped BR ceilings. Mobility-impaired guests should take caution, and it’s not suitable for small children. Heating or air conditioning may vary on each floor. Dishes must be washed by hand. But it is charming, unique and in the most beautiful section of the Rivermont Historic District.
