We absolutely loved staying at Eben and Judy’s gorgeous beach house. The location felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. Highly recommend if you’re looking to unplug and relax. It’s very remote, so come prepared with your groceries and necessities. That said, Eben and Judy thought everything to make it special—from the electric beach cart read at the dock to the locker stocked with spices and coffee.
This bungalow is a lovely private oasis suited to re-charge and get away from the hustle and bustle. As other reviews state, "this is remote" and a very beautiful spot in the world. I can concur it is a decent trek from the ferry to the house, so I would recommend to pack as light as possible (we had no electric cart for the haul, not in listing but in another review, my fault for not double checking where I saw it ), but that is also the charm and adventure of Fire Island! I will also pass along there is just one couch and not all the furniture shown in the pictures...we are a family of four with 17 and 19 year olds, we had a few 1/2 days of rain and with one couch it was cozy watching a movie, though as a plus, there are a lot of streaming options which is great. All in all, a perfect little spot for stunning views and the sound of the ocean, with nothing to get in your way of either!
Beautiful location and helpful hosts, but property is lacking
We recently completed a 5 night stay at this "top of the line" house. The house is beautifully situated on the beach, and for those who love privacy, the location is idyllic.
The property is short of our "top of the line" expectations. First, the main living room has no window shades. The result of this lack of shades is that through most of the day you are wearing sunglasses in the house.
Second, during our stay, the living room air conditioner was not working. A floor air conditioner was available and we used it, but temperatures in the main room of the house were 90+ during the day. As much as we went to Fire Island to enjoy the outdoors (and we did!), we also avoided all houses without AC.
On the final day of our stay, the AC repairman came. He shared that they have replaced multiple components of the AC unit over a period of many weeks. The latest replacement failed yet again. An alternative approach would be to recognize that a "top of the line" house needs AC, and to replace it immediately.
The best hosts prioritize hospitality above all else, and in so doing they know that they will be profitable. This house is not "top of the line", and the details I have not mentioned (kitchenware, damaged boogie boards, etc.) further illustrate my point.
Beautiful and remote, this home is a one-of-a-kind stay when it comes to truly getting away without having to go to the airport or change time zones. Eben and Judy are lovely and considerate and think of everything you might need. A true delight.
It is impossible to state how wonderful the setting of this house is. It looks directly out onto the beach with nothing around. The house is lovely with three good bedrooms and a fantastic great room kitchen. It is fully stocked with everything you need for a wonderfully relaxing vacation. Plus they responded quickly to any questions. The only thing to point out is that this is a fairly remote location with no markets, restaurants or other amenities nearby. We were able to get everything we need via instacart and the ferry but it requires some planning. We would rent this place again in a heart beat.
The house, location and views are absolutely spectacular. The main room is essentially a glass box sitting out on the beach with breezes and the sound of waves breaking.
The outdoor dining table has great bay views and sitting outside for meals with an umbrella and gas grill are delightful. We were there during the 95 degree+ heat wave and were comfortable with no AC and in fact were chilly at night.
The place is heaven! Detailed and designed skillfully the house is a dream and the owners accessibility and attitude is just as wonderful. We walked to The Pines and Davis Park. You have to bring everything with you but they have an electric wagon and you feel as though you are on a far away secluded beach.
